The spread of ranks for "Pretty Little Miss" is so interesting. Everyone put it between 5-8 except for a couple who put it either first or last.

“The Richest Fool Alive” is the song that I was expecting to be out first for the next set of reveals as I thought its time was numbered. While Patty sounds stunning on this as always, it was just one of the least memorable songs for me.
I quite enjoy Patty and Travis Tritt's take on “Out of Control Raging Fire”, but I am actually most familiar with and partial to Tracy Byrd’s version as he recorded it for his 1993 debut album.
“Pretty Little Miss” is a fun tune that brings some life to the album and makes you want to tap your foot along with. I'm kind of surprised to see not one but two last place rankings for it though.
I was afraid that “Someone That I Used to Know” might bow out before the top 5, but I was really holding on to some hope that it would make it. I was really torn between my top 3 and what I wanted to put at the top of my list, but this was just one that I found myself wanting to revisit the most.

I have seen the songwriting motif of The Richest Fool Alive so much when I just started listening older country songs (and songs that are inspired by them). The twist wore on me fast.
The right Travis Tritt collab is higher. Their vocal chemistry is much stronger here.
Pretty Little Miss is kinda forgettable but is still a decent jam.
I never expected younger Jon Randall sounds like Vince Gill this much. This again sounds too much like a standard for me.

Now that's a weird song premise. I know it's a cover but the theme sounds more like a jerk than romantic. Well, it does have the narrator saying "Not knowing that you were another's bride." The narrator also says, "The game is over now, I know I've lost / My broken heart will have to pay the cost" so the narrator isn't coming on to the other person or anything. It's really just a lament of sorts.

I just want to again point out how well this album plays out. Each song feels like a collective piece of the tapestry of a specific region of the U.S. It feels like a book or miniseries to me, where each song focuses on a different character or something (and then perhaps the subject of one song is the narrator of another, to where the married person in "I Know You're Married" is the one waiting for the boys to come back in town and so forth).

Great top 2! I'm fine with either song winning, but knowing Pulse I have to give a slight edge to "Cheap Whiskey".

and there you have it, the correct song is #1. This song has been one of my favorite songs from Patty since this album came out so it was an obvious #1 for me. Was shocked by the low ranks that it did receive but I guess I shouldn't be as this is Pulse after all lol
Thank you everyone for participating. I am gonna make the graphics for Mountain Soul II tomorrow so if you haven't submitted for that one yet let me know you need more time and I can give you to this coming weekend otherwise I'll begin reveals tomorrow night

What even is this?! I actually thought you of all participants were bound to put this somewhere in your top 5 given that you're a Martina stan...or maybe you just really disliked Patty's version? I actually thought this might win because of that, but in the end it was the opposite outcome!

Those two random #13s each for the top 2 songs are questionable af.

Both of these songs were in my initial top 2, but I ended up enjoying "Someone I Used to Know" more than I thought I would and that is what ended up at the top of my list. And I just as easily could put either one of these at the top of my list as well because they are the two standout songs on the album. That said, I do happen to be partial to Brad Paisley's version of "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" as his is my personal favorite. Thanks castleoblivion26 and I'm looking forward to the results for Mountain Soul II!

Sounds of Loneliness is another song that has major interplay between lyrics and melody. Really like the augmentative vocals in the middle, and the solemn feeling as a closer.
The contemporary melody of Sorrowful Angels helps it a lot.
Cheap Whiskey is maybe boosted by familiarity factor, but You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive is one of the best moody bluegrass song I have heard, especially the humming that begins at 4:30 mark.
Mountain Soul II is significantly weaker than parent album. My rankings are all over the place.

I actually thought this might win because of that, but in the end it was the opposite outcome! Hahaha there are aspects about Patty's that I do not like as much as Martina's, (although that probably goes without saying, lmao). For instance, the plucky bluegrass production doesn't fit the mood of the song quite as well as the polished mainstream '90s production of Martina's for me. Martina's sounds dark and foreboding, while Patty's sounds like a bunch of people jamming on a porch. Also, I always hate when people breathe in the middle of lines, so the way that Patty breathes right between "'til the day that he" and "diiiiiiiiiieeeeeeees" completely takes me out of the song. That being said, the song itself is still a hell of a song, so I'm happy to see it do well! My #13 is mostly just a testament to how strong this album is!

Also, look at y'all putting "Sounds of Loneliness" in the top 4 after trashing it to last place in her debut album Rankdown!!!!! This is at minimum how well it should have done the first time around. I'm glad to see it finally get recognized. "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" was a fascinating song to listen to! It's one of those songs where I was perched from the very first line and couldn't wait to see what happened next. Very deserving winner!!!

I'd have to listen to both to understand this more, and you have a right to your opinion anyway, but since Mountain Soul is the study of a region, I think the 'porch' aspect is the point (i.e. that's how stories were handed down).

Ugh I never got around to submitting my ranking for this one. I find this collection fairly inferior to the first Mountain Soul, but there are some highlights: Busted A Handful of Dust (though overall I prefer the version from WFAF) Working on a Building Bramble and the Rose Diamond in My Crown
I'm not surprised Abraham is out first, considering it's one of the weaker vocals of her career.

Working On A Building deserves better here, although Lealie Jordan's version with Charlie Worsham and Ashley McBryde>>>
(We Are All) Children Of Abraham and Friends In Gloryland are a capella that I don't care for. The latter has even more boring vocal arrangements but somehow it isn't in bottom 2.
Lol at Fools Thin Air and Feelings Of Love having two opposite groups of people boosting or tanking them.
