I mean, Taki Taki may be a smash hit overall, but it's not exactly tearing up the charts in the US, which is what this thread is here to discuss, right? This ain't the worldwide hot 100.
Also, if WW YT views were counted. It was only #6 in the U.S. last week.

Taki Taki will probably hit the top ten at some point hopefully in this calendar year to extend Selena's yearly Top 10 streak Probably not going to happen. Its airplay is increasing steadily, but soon the holidays will start affecting that. On-demand streams aren't really going anywhere for it. It's actually been falling on Spotify for a few weeks now and isn't really showing signs to growing. (Though it's not falling fast, at least.) Sales appear to be relatively stable, but not enough to help it propel into the top ten. I have my doubts of it ever getting there, but if it does, it won't be until the 2019 chart year at this point, especially if its main chances to get there rest on airplay, which is about to get hit hard by the holidays. (And streaming too for that matter.) |

They have been known to tweak things more often than they announce. If they are changing something, this is generally the week to do it.

Usually, at least this decade, there's been a 12-24 month gap between changes. But maybe they might change it again because they're spooked out about how weak the top of the charts have been lately. I guess we'll find out soon anyway. About having to wait for a radio show for the charts, I would like that, honestly. They still do that in the UK. I like how all chart fans get together for a few hours and listen to the songs come in. And also, they way they do it in the UK, they play each song in the top 40 one by one from #40 to #1, so each song gets its few minutes of spotlight each week and everybody can complain on the Internet about how much they hate it lol. And you have the building suspense as they get closer to the #1. Billboard could probably do something like that on Youtube because you can do live streams on there with a live chat for the viewers (although if these Billboard Hot 100 threads are anything to go by, a chat room could be a complete mess). They would just need to get a good commentator and get the record labels to agree to let them play the songs on a live stream once a week. And I think they could get a good audience for that, especially the weeks when BTS are charting haha. |

Once upon a time the chart came out at a time they themselves set and created a routine around and people's expectations, that were understandably set, were met.
