I wonder if Circles got to number one or SYL got top 5? It's been a minute since I updated these lists.
Quick recap: These are the top songs of the year, but all points from the song's complete chart run are included and the song is placed in the year when it first reached its chart peak. A "+" in the points indicates the song is still charting and still collecting points.
So here are the top 50 songs to peak in calendar year 2020.
And here's the top 100 of 2019. There are still songs that peaked in calendar 2019 in the charts, and they are still affecting the chart rankings.
Post Malone looks to be close to pushing himself out of #2 on this list (climbing from #8 the last time I posted this). It's quite possible with Circles' longevity, it will end up as the #1 song on the 2019 complete list. Summer Walker's Come Thru is currently the only song outside the 2019 top 100 to still be charting and not having reached a new peak in 2020. It's charted for 18 non-consecutive weeks, and since it's below #50, will likely be dropped in another two weeks.

What is the use of the 2019 chart? We know that after 10 year, AIWFCIY will be #1.

What is the use of the 2019 chart? We know that after 10 year, AIWFCIY will be #1. The way Rockgolf set it up was that each run for a song counts separately. For example, the points Lucid Dreams got after Juice WRLD passed go towards a separate entry on 2019, not 2018. And Christmas songs do the same, IIRC.

thelegends: Lurker is correct. Each re-charting song in a different year is considered a separate chart run on these charts. I also have an all-time list where all runs of a song on the charts are combined. On that one, AIWFCIY is #178 when all runs are combined. I'm sure it will go up more.
On the complete 2019 chart, only 2 songs that peaked in that year are still charting, but one of them, Circles, has a good shot to become #1 under this algorithm in a few weeks. Check back in July!
Of course, there's a lot of room to go on the 2020 chart. Theorhetically, a song could enter at it's peak position in the last week of 2020 and still climb to #1. Very improbable, however.
Still, here's how the complete 2020 hits look so far:
For 2020, the top ten are all still charting and will continue to gain points until they fall off. For some, that should be soon.

Here's the update to the week of July 4, 2020.
On the 2019 chart, Circles is closing in on the #1 spot for the year and could reach that point by August, when I still fully expect it to be in the top 20 of the weekly charts.
'everything I wanted' has likely gone as far as it can go, and no other songs that peaked in 2019 are still on the Hot 100.
For 2020, the top two seem firmly established, but (as with Circles) a song could still chart this year and overtake those two at some point in 2021.

What was the point system like for the lists from before 2017? I know they were a lot different.
Intentions could be sitting very pretty when it's all said and done. Probably not top 10 but who knows

I just noticed it's been exactly one year now since the 2018 complete was complete. But with Circles STILL in the top 20, I wonder how many more weeks of steam it has before 2019's list is all said and done. It hasn't overstayed its welcome necessarily, but it is a little bittersweet to see Old Town Road and especially Sunflower get toppled. It will be interesting to see if there's a 2020 equivalent to Circles that lasts until next summer that is threatening to dethrone Blinding Lights and The Box.
Also gonna be some dramatic changes in the next 2020 chart. Watermelon Sugar in particular will have skyrocketed up the list, along with What's Poppin and Break My Heart. And of course, WAP will debut.

With Circles finally having finished its run I can now produce a FINAL Top 150 complete Hits of 2019.
For newcomers, this list uses the Billboard all-time formula for determining points, and includes all weeks of songs that reached their chart peak in 2019. Circles, which hit #1 late last year, gets all the points for its time on the chart in 2020. Similarly, songs that started charting in 2018, but peaked in 2019 also get all points from their chart run included.

And through the chart dated Nov 21, 2020 here's how the list for songs that peaked in 2020 looks. Keep in mind, this list does not close off on Dec 31, 2020. It continues until the last song to peak in calendar year 2020 falls off the chart.
In fact, it's possible some songs on this list will reach a new peak in 2021, and move to that year's chart.
Songs with + in front of their score are still on the chart and may get more points.
One advantage of this system is that both Circles and Blinding Lights are #1 songs of the year. Just... different years.

The complete 2020 will continue for several months, probably until Mood finishes its chart run sometime next summer. (It includes the full chart runs of all songs that first reached their peak position in the actual calendar year, so Blinding Lights qualifies but Circles is on the 2019 chart.)
This is complete thru the week of Dec 12, 2020.
Songs with a "+" in front are still charting and could gain more points. AIWFCIY has already made the top 100, based strictly on its chart run that started 2 weeks ago.

Are you gonna keep updating the 2020 chart when AIWFCIY inevitably reenters in December of 2021?

Are you gonna keep updating the 2020 chart when AIWFCIY inevitably reenters in December of 2021? Yes and no. The 2019 chart contains the complete chart run of AIWFCIY from when it entered the chart in November 2019 until its last week dated Jan 4, 2020. I decided that charts that reflect only activity in 2019 (and other years) should be included in 2019, so that Jan 2, 2019 chart in practical terms represented sales, streaming and airplay for Dec 21-27, 2019.
Similarly, AIWFCIY in 2020 will get (on this chart) only points for Nov 2020 to the chart dated Jan 2, 2021 (reflecting activity of Dec Dec 18-24, 2020).
Does this answer your question.
TL;DR: Depends what you mean.

Got it, glad you're not putting every subsequent reentry of AIWFCIY into the 2019 complete. I'm assuming you're using the same policy for other Christmas songs.

Would anyone else want to see a version of the 2019 list with real points (or estimated real points)? I'm almost done making it, I could post it here or create a new thread, it certainly has a lot less Christmas music.
For reference Old Town Road is still #1 in that list by a decent amount just because of how huge its weeks at #1 were and Talk You Out Of It will make the top 100.

A couple observations & random facts
-It's interesting how the top 9 all line up perfectly with the All Time charts except for the switch at 1 & 2 and then after that it starts to evolve into chaos. Kinda shows that the all time charts only work with the biggest songs of all time. -Eyes On You, All To Myself, Boyfriend & Walk Me Home are songs #101-#104 -I counted Christmas songs' runs separately. However with AIWFCIY both its 2018 and 2019 runs peaked in 2019, with the former peaking at 3 on 1/5/2019 and the latter peaking at 1 on 12/21/2019 so they were both eligible for this list and I could have combined them together which would move it up to #46. However I chose to count them separately putting the 2019 run at #81 and the 2018 run far from the top 100. -If I'd combined them I actually would have needed to combine Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree as well which also had two different runs that both peaked in 2019 & it would have ended up in the top 100 and pushed Time out. -Luke Combs having 4 songs in the top 100 (& top 75) is pretty epic

inverse Yeah, I had the same quandary with AIWFCIY. I removed it by applying the reality that the first chart of each year actually reflects sales, stream and radio entirely from the previous year. For example, the Jan 4, 2020 chart was released on Dec 30, 2019 and cuts off on with sales from Dec 27, 2019. So why should it be represented as being in 2020? So I've calculated a Practical Year for peaking, based on the peak date minus seven days. It's made life much simpler, especially for Holiday tracks?

Here's the current list of top songs that peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 during 2020. The entire chart runs to date are used to determine points, so any song that charted in 2019 but peaked in 2020 has it's complete run to date included.
While this week's chart is dated January 2, 2021, all activity measured on the chart took place in 2020. So if a song peaked this week (and doesn't get higher), I'm keeping it in the 2020 list. Starting next week (Jan 9, 2021 chart) any songs reaching a new peak will be moved entirely to the complete 2021 list. This is partially to avoid complications with Christmas songs peaking on 2 runs in the same year, but mostly an attempt to reflect what actually took place during the actual year, rather than the synthetic year based on the chart Week Ending dates.
A "+" in front of the points indicates the song is still charting this week. Blinding Light is off the charts this week, but most expect it to re-enter next week, probably back in the top ten. That will be considered an extension of its 2020 run, not a separate run.
Starting next week, songs reaching a new peak position (and newly charting) will be moved to the complete 2021 chart, and I'll have to change the title of this thread.

Here's what 2020 is looking like in terms of chart points. It's not clear how accurate this is but I trust Empress Tanooki's 2021 preds after her amazing accuracy the year before. Actively charting songs in blue.

It doesn't look good for Cardigan's chances to make this top 100 songs of the year chart either. Both of the songs directly below it will probably return after the christmas songs go away and Dakiti & Therefore I Am look like surefire bets to make it, with Body, Lonely & 34 + 35 possibly joining them too. Forever After All is always gonna be a contender as well when it inevitably gets the single push. If Cardigan is gonna have any chance it might come from a post-grammys return but I find that unlikely
Next week however the cutoff might actually get lower. Bang will hit a new peak & thus get removed for sure, along with maybe WYKAL, Go Crazy or Kings & Queens.
As for the top 10 it looks like Mood will be the last new entry and the 10 spot will be a fight between What's Poppin and The Bones. A Drake album bomb could short circuit Harlow's chances of getting the full 52 weeks.

I’ll be interested in seeing what songs immediately switch over to the 2021 list and what gets to shift up on 2020’s on this week’s chart! Also rockgolf I have a question/suggestion and you can tell me if it’s a bad idea or not. What if a song charts across two years and hits its peak in year 1, but has more weeks at its peak in year 2? My thinking would be people will identify it more with the year it spent more time at its peak. Just as a borderline impossible an example, let’s say “Willow” hit #1 again in 2021, but for 2 weeks. Just curious how you feel about these hypothetical scenarios. Apologies if you had previously covered this topic.

I apply the first week of peak rules consistently even when the points are lopsided.

Here it is! The first (totally underwhelming) "complete" chart of songs that peaked in chart year 2021. I consider the Jan 9, 2021 chart to be the first of this year, as the previous chart recorded only activity that took place in 2020.
Yes, most of the chart activity (everything, I believe but radio) still took place in 2020 for this chart too, but you gotta start somewhere!
Bet that's a bit of a surprise at the top, eh? A lot of 2020 songs made major bounce backs on the chart this week, but only those on this list climbed to a higher position than they did in 2020. Go Crazy (which got most of its points from last year) could stay atop this chart for the next couple of months, until a new track comes along and goes to #1. I don't think it will be anything on this list.

And here's the update to the complete 2020 list. Not a lot to report except Blinding Lights, already the biggest song of the 21st century, continues to extend its lead.
So still-charting songs especially those near the end of the list are likely to move to the 2021 list as they reach new HP's.

Here's the next update. Won't be doing this every week as there isn't likely to be all that much change per week but since four songs were removed due to hitting new peaks I thought I'd show how the chart reset. I count Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree as 2021 because Billboard says it peaked in 2021 for this run, otherwise it would be at #93.

Observations, notes etc.
-What's Poppin needs 3 more weeks to pass the Bones. a possible Drake album could play a big part in this, if he hits soon it'll miss otherwise it should be able to do that. -The fight for #3 seems to be between Don't Start Now, Rockstar & Mood. I'd call it a toss up at this point but I'm cheering for DSN to hang on. -It'll be a long time before a new entry into the top 50. It's possible that this is the final top 50 & the terrible Yummy will undeservedly wind up at #50. -If a Morgan Wallen album bomb hits MTMH has a small chance to hit a new peak and get taken off. As it is it's pretty impressive that he has 4 songs here. -Next week Dakiti will enter the top 100 along with maybe B.S. or My Ex's Best Friend if it somehow gets another week. -From now on I think I'll just most the new positions of the songs still charting instead of a full top 100, at least for awhile. Maybe I'll do my next update whenever Mood hits the top 10.

1/16/21 update. Dakiti & My Ex's Best Friend replace Heartless & Happy Anywhere in the top 100. Lonely, B.S. & Starting Over all cross 150,000 and could all the top 100 next week unless they fall off or peak too high. 34+35 could also get in next week. Technically Heartless (at #101 right now) could get the album bomb return and make it back onto the hot 100 but that's not predicted to happen. Here's the positions of the songs currently charting, there's not much change and thus don't want to make a full chart each week.
1 - Blinding Lights (=) 4 - Rockstar (=) 6 - I Hope (+1) 10 - What's Poppin (=) 15 - Watermelon Sugar (=) 16 - WAP (=) 17 - Before You Go (=) 20 - Mood (+1) 22 - Dynamite (=) 24 - Laugh Now Cry Later (=) 25 - Savage Love (+1) 29 - For The Night (=) 33 - Lemonade (+1) 35 - Holy (+3) 41 - More Than My Hometown (+1)
42 - Positions (+7) 44 - Kings & Queens (+4) 82 - Hawai (+4) *OFFICIALLY ABOVE 2020 YEAR END CUTOFF* 87 - Midnight Sky (+5) 92 - 7 Summers (+4) 93 - Pretty Heart (+5) 94 - Dakiti (NEW) 96 - My Ex's Best Friend (NEW)
#100 - Heartless

Here's an attempted real points list for 2018. It was pretty difficult to piece together & honestly I have no idea where Let Me Go is supposed to be it could be anywhere from #90 to not even in the top 100. But I think everything else is in the right order. Also shoutout to Cardi B and her 9 entries & Drake with TEN entries (and 11 if you count Sicko Mode). God's Plan is still #1 because it got twice the points at its peak as Girls Like You.

1/23/21 update. B.S. & Starting Over enter the top 100. Love You Like I Used To & 34+35 enter the top 100 although the latter song will probably be removed next week.
1 - Blinding Lights (=) 4 - Rockstar (=) 5 - I Hope (+1) 10 - What's Poppin (=) 15 - Before You Go (+2) 17 - WAP (-1) 19 - Mood (+1) 22 - Dynamite (=) 23 - Laugh Now Cry Later (+1) 25 - Savage Love (=) 27 - For The Night (+2) 32 - Lemonade (+1) 34 - Holy (+1) 39 - Positions (+3) 42 - More Than My Hometown (-1) 43 - Kings & Queens (+1) 77 - Hawai (+5) 83 - 7 Summers (+9) *OFFICIALLY ABOVE 2020 YEAR END CUTOFF* 84 - Dakiti (+10) *OFFICIALLY ABOVE 2020 YEAR END CUTOFF* 85 - Midnight Sky (+2) *OFFICIALLY ABOVE 2020 YEAR END CUTOFF* 90 - My Ex's Best Friend (+6) 97 - B.S. (NEW) 98 - Starting Over (NEW)
#100 - Cool Again
Looking forward to next week -What's Poppin just needs to not fall off and it will pass The Bones and likely make the top 10 unless LNCL has a ton of longevity. -WAP just missed passing Watermelon Sugar this week, it will be kinda tragic if it falls off now. -Love You Like I Used To will probably make its unwelcome arrival in its final week. It's unlikely to finish within the top 100 when all is said and done however. Therefore I Am might enter as well. 34+35 should hit a new peak, it's currently at #102 but will be moved to the 2021 list.

I just realized I'm an idiot and I put Everything I Wanted on here despite the fact that it peaked in 2019 and was also on that list. Will make a few corrections.
1/30/21 update. B.S. makes a somewhat surprising exit & will likely miss the final top 100. Love You Like I Used To & Therefore I Am enter the top 100.
1 - Blinding Lights (=) 4 - Rockstar (=) 5 - I Hope (=) 9 - What's Poppin (+1) 14 - Before You Go (+1) 16 - WAP (+1) 18 - Mood (+1) 21 - Dynamite (+1) 23 - Laugh Now Cry Later (=) 25 - Savage Love (=) 27 - For The Night (=) 32 - Lemonade (=) 33 - Holy (+1) 36 - Positions (+3) 37 - More Than My Hometown (+5) 43 - Kings & Queens (=) 76 - 7 Summers (+6) 77 - Dakiti (+6) 85 - My Ex's Best Friend (+5) *OFFICIALLY ABOVE 2020 YEAR END CUTOFF* 91 - Starting Over (+7) 97 - Therefore I Am (NEW) 99 - Love You Like I Used To (NEW)
#100 - B.S.
Looking forward to next week & the future -Rockstar is 3 weeks away from Don't Start Now. I think it'll get there. -Mood will pass several songs next week, might be up to #14 -Both Dynamite & LNCL are 3 weeks away from top 20. Dynamite is very unlikely to get there but with BTS promo tactics honestly who knows -There won't be any new entries next week. Body will almost certainly enter pretty soon & that might be the last new song. If Mr. Right Now can just stay on for its last 4 weeks it should make it right at the bottom in its 20th week. The only other songs that are even in position to enter after that are Forever After All, Willow & Somebody's Problem and all of those feel like iffy propositions.
