On the first few listens, I'm just not loving this like the first album. A lot of the songs are reminding me of the only song I didn't like from his self titled, Close Enough- uninspired and forced. I can see why they had to go with Here Tonight for the first single. Some backhanded positives- I didn't see the twist in Don't Wanna Write This Song coming, but I guess I should've. My favorite lyrically was The Ship and The Bottle and now I see he didn't have a hand in writing it. Change Your Name would normally sound like a bad pickup line, but Brett made it work. I remember hearing him say he was inspired by Gavin DeGraw/One Tree Hill, so it's cool to see a duet on here. Used To Missin' You has a fun Left Side of Leavin' feel to it, one of my favorites. Why on earth name your album 'Ticket to L.A.'? Single predictions: 2. Catch 3. 1,2,3 Mississippi 4. Ticket to L.A.

I'm sure they were expecting "Here Tonight" to climb a little faster, but it's strange they picked a release date for the album SO soon. The lead single currently sits at only #30 on the airplay chart, so we've likely got another 4-5 months of it assuming they don't drop it early.
After a highly successful debut era, the timing of this leads me to believe we could only get 2 singles from this album.

This is nowhere near as good as his stellar first album. Nothing is outright BAD but nothing pulls me like most of that album did. I do think I really like Used to Missin' You.
Single guesses: Catch Ticket to L.A. Don't Wanna Write This Song

No idea why they rushed this so fast. Artist like him wouldâve been much better off taking a month off, generating some more interest.
Didnât Mercy just peak?

"Mercy" peaked at number one on the Airplay Chart for the charts dated of August 11 & August 18. "Here Tonight" was released on September 14 with a radio impact of September 24.

Man I was hoping this would be better than it is. Most of these songs just aren't interesting.
Songs I Like:
"The Ship And The Bottle" Easily the best song on the album.
"Don't Wanna Write This Song" Took me to the bridge to figure out the woman died
Songs I Don't Mind: "Ticket To L.A." "Runnin' Away From Home" "Reason To Stay" "1, 2, 3, Mississippi"
Everything else is me at Best.
Single Predictions: Ticket To L.A. Don't Wanna Write This Song Reason To Stay

I can see how people could say it's a step down, but I don't think there's a song I would call "bad" on this entire album. I guess maybe it's safe? But it's right in Brett's wheelhouse to my ears and an easy, enjoyable listen.
I've only listened once (while I was working, too) but I am loving Catch so, so much right now.

I don't know, I was encouraged because I absolutely loved "Here Tonight" but once again, I found most of the songs sounded the same and were pretty generic/uneventful and were less-than-palatable due to his polarizingly-grating voice. That said, not a bad album by any means, just not one I'd probably personally revisit.

Change Your Name: 8.5/10 9. Chapters: 8/10 10. The Ship and the Bottle: 9/10 11. Reason to Stay: 6.5/10 12. Runninâ Away From Home: 7.5/10 13. Donât Wanna Write This Song: 8.5/10
Overall grade: 7.5/10

Guess I'm in the minority, but I think this album is every bit as good as his debut was and is a total home run for me. I listened to it once through so far and found myself thinking "oh this song is my new favorite" after like... almost every song that came on, lol. Ticket to L.A. is a definitely 5/5 stars for me, and I think it may even be slightly more consistent than his debut because there was nothing that stood out to me as being as weak as "Makin' Me Say." Also, just like on his debut, at least half the album sounds like it could be a smash at country radio, so they have a lot of potential with this record. He continues to be one of my favorite male artists in the genre.

I think the album is very very good, but yes, it is definitely not as good as his debut. There are a couple songs that are kinda weak, but while there are not stinkers, at least most songs are strong enough to keep me playing the whole album. That said, I can see why Here Tonight was chosen as a single, since it is the strongest song in the album (for me).

HDD predicts 32-34k SPS and 24-27k sales. Not even top 10, which makes releasing the album so early into Here Tonightâs radio run an even poorer decision in hindsight. The competition on the Billboard 200 is insane.

The competition on the Billboard 200 is insane. It probably would've sold better if they'd timed the release a little later, like say around March or so, to coincide with "Here Tonight" being at or near the top of the charts, but I'm guessing in this case they felt like getting the album out before the holidays was a bigger priority here. Those are pretty solid sales considering the lead single hasn't had a chance to do a whole lot yet, but the album should have legs like his debut did if they continue to crank out the hits, so I don't think it matters much.

I think I've decided that "Chapters" is my favorite on the record, and it may even give "Mercy" a run for its money as my favorite song he's done. I love everything about it. For singles, I think they should do the title track, "Catch," or "1, 2, 3 Mississippi" next. All of those are total earworms. Based on the response to it, "Don't Wanna Write This Song" should probably be a single from this project, too, but I'd go with it either third or fourth.

Besides Here Tonight, I want Used To Missin' You as a single. I don't know how to classify Sleep Without You, if upbeat or mid tempo, but other than that, he didn't have any uptempos as a single from his debut. I hope Used To Missin' You becomes one at some point. Maybe he will release less ballads this time... maybe?

Maybe he will release less ballads this time... maybe? But his ballads (In Case You Didn't Know, Mercy) outperform his non-ballads. I think he will release the same number of ballads as singles in this album cycle.

I think he will release the same number of ballads as singles in this album cycle. Oh, I know. I just think that maybe he doesn't like to be called a balladist. You know, I'm not saying he doesn't like it, but there's this stigma against ballads with people. People usually don't bat an eye if an album is full of upbeat music, but add half the songs as ballads, and people will complain. Me, I am the opposite, I LOVE ballads, and slow music in most genres. I am just pointing that maybe he will want a change. But I certainly hope he releases many ballads :)

I like the album a lot. To me, it is a slight step down from his debut, but that was so killer I didn't imagine he'd top that
There's nothing bad on this album at all (nothing even close actually), but there are a few tracks that just seem like filler to me. "Don't Wanna Write This Song" is the only song on the record that comes off as outstanding on first listen, but that's not to say there aren't any other great songs on the record.
Fave tracks: "Here Tonight", "Don't Wanna Write This Song", "Chapters", "The Ship and the Bottle", "Catch"

This has grown on me a lot beyond my first impression. That said, I would have liked to see this be the single order: Catch Used To Missin You Here Tonight I Don't Want to Write This Song
I expect this, though Here Tonight Catch I Don't Want to Write This Song Ticket To L.A.
