Ahh fuck Always Ascending was easily my #1 song of the rankdown, and one of the top songs of my year in general. Thanks so much peacebone for submitting it in WTM last year! |

25. Hunger - I feel like I should like this song more than I do, it's certainly powerful and there's nothing wrong with it, but it's just not something I had a desire to listen to more than a handful of times.
24. Handyman - Surprise, AWOLNATION pull of a folky song really well. And I'm glad they switched it up because their typical sound was wearing thin for me. I thought this had a shot at top 10 but oh well.
23. Scary Love - Glad this is finally out, it's not bad but I grew tired of it pretty fast.
22. Always Ascending - One off from a perfecto! Another band that I was glad to hear switch it up, this song took a few listens to grow on me, but it grew strongly.
21. Gold Rush - Another one that grew big time (to an even greater extent) after taking a few listens to click. I really thought this was going to be top 10, but I guess surprises make the rankdown more interesting.

I REALLY wish “Always Ascending” and “Gold Rush” made top 20, especially the former since they really got robbed on radio imo.

#20 spent time in the top ten, but it mostly hung out in the teens somewhere. Ten more top 10s will be the main losers this time, with four top fives also going away. While this song has thirteen bottom half rankings, not a single one can even be located in the bottom 20. There are no shortage of bottom 30 rankings, however...

Oh, there's not much going on with the reveal of #19...just the third-highest standard deviation. Ten bottom 30s riddled this song with punches, seven residing somewhere in the bottom 20. Chief among them are the two bottom tens, with at least one bottom ten clearance making itself known. Notice how I haven't mentioned the high losses yet? Well, try 26 top 25s, 23 top 20s, and 15 top 10s on for size. There are a pretty decent number of top 5s, too, with multiple high top fives and at least one #1 loss being felt, as well.
