First co-billed male leads at #1 with no features since Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me in 1992
Prior to that you have to go back to Say Say Say in 1983

Sunflower is not really hip hop to my ears. It's almost like Thank U Next.. could be produced by Max Martin tbh

Yes - Post & Swae! Hip-hop on top again! Lol what? "Sunflower" is a clearly a pop song. We really need to stop referring to Post Malone as a hip-hop artist, Lady Gaga has rapped more in her songs than he has in his. Yay for pop still on top! Ari, Halsey and Posty, pop princesses extraordinaire, keeping 2019 rap-free.

My main concern with pop songs is that they're going down the same route as hip-hop lately: the lowbeat trend soldiers on. "Thank U, Next", "Without Me", "Sunflower", "Eastside" are all pretty mellow. Can we get an actual bop?

But yea, people are probably referring Sunflower as a hip hop only because it's by male artist with tattoos.

I don't care about what you think: "R&B/hip-hop & rap ruler: "Sunflower" concurrently spends a second week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts." Billboard >>>>>>>>>>> you

Thanks for the predictions though, always look forward to seeing 'em.

Genres are in large part subjective because entertainment media tends to use elements of multiple genres to create a piece. "Sunflower" borrows heavily from both hip-hop and pop. Calling it either of those genres is entirely fair. There is no need to get up in arms about it. Also, fhas, blocking a member only blocks you from seeing their posts (although you can hit "Display Post," which you clearly had to in order to see it), blocks any notifications from them, and blocks them from starting new personal messages with you. The blocked member can still quote you and like your posts, you just wouldn't get the notification or see the post.

I would be delighted if a rap track replaced GLY
(I love good rap, been bopping to Meek Mill and 21 Savage recently)

Sweet But Psycho moved up by 4 to #37. I kind of thought it would be a little bit more, but it's still something.

I remember Just Dance going #1 that week. Felt like such a huge deal because it was such an uphill climb. I remember seeing Lady Gaga for the first time on the Miss Universe pageant (Venezuela won that year and it was a big deal for this country, etc...) and the song instantly got in my head. My best friend and I proceeded to play the heck out of it for months, so by the time it went #1 in the US it was already old news for us. Haha, it's funny because Canada and US usually have similar charts, but by the time "Just Dance" finally hit #1 in the US, "Poker Face" was having multiple weeks at #1 for Canada.

"Sunflower" is to the Rap Songs chart what "We Are Never Getting Back Together" was to the Country Songs chart.
Billboard doesn't seem to think that Post Malone can make anything other than rap just like Taylor Swift was just a country singer until she requested to be classified as Pop with 1989.
Just like "High Hopes" is the biggest Alternative hit in years... but the same exact recording could be credited to Maroon 5 and it wouldn't chart on Alternative just because.

As always, North America is always the last to catch on LOL

Sweet But Psycho moved up by 4 to #37. I kind of thought it would be a little bit more, but it's still something. The radio for it is only increasing, sales are doing pretty good, and I think the streams will pick up. This is going to be a hit.

This has been the main criticism towards Billboard's genre charts since the first day they restructured them a few years back. (2011? 2012? Somewhere in there.) Genres are incredibly difficult to classify because of how subjective it is and allowing a company to make such a decision resulted in, well, obvious problems like these. "Sunflower" can easily fit into a hip-hop playlist, but it's completely devoid of any rap elements. "We Are Never" had a few country elements in it, but mostly borrowed from pop. "High Hopes" is the same, but alt rock instead of country. The big difference here, though, is "High Hopes" legitimately is a #1 for alternative rock radio. *shrug* I have no idea how Billboard should fix their genre charts*, but it's clear they way it is now is more convoluted than it should be. *Well, I do have a way I would personally like to see it done, but it's based on radio formats, not actual genres, and is completely and totally a personal thing I'd like to see because it's interesting to me. It's certainly not anything that should be the definitive answer.

Sunflower does have elements of hip hop, but it's not a hip hop song.

From the pop side, also the latest Sam Smith single started very well on streaming and sales, interesting to see how it keeps up for next couple of weeks.

In the case of "High Hopes" it has spent like 10 weeks #1 at Alternative radio though, so it clearly is popular even within the Alternative music community. Yeah, Post is not that largely received in the Hip-Hop community. "Rockstar" and "White Iverson" are his only songs to actually make top 10 at R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. He's just another Iggy or Macklemore to the people at Urban radio.
