That's true, but Kelly's song was all over playlists on AM & Spotify. Cozy Little Christmas got enough airplay and Amazon music streams to get it to #53, which would not have happened if people did not like the song or her for that matter. Holiday songs shouldn't be used as a barometer for general popularity. Look at Pentatonix. One of the biggest Christmas acts out there.

Holiday songs shouldn't be used as a barometer for general popularity. Look at Pentatonix. Outside of their Holiday output, they have six Top 10 albums (including a #1), and three of their singles went Gold. So, yeah, they're still pretty popular outside of the holidays. You have to take into account they get practically zero airplay outside of the holidays, but Perry does get airplay outside of it.

Any Marshmello songs making a rebound this week? I know that thing he did with Fortnite blew up so figuring Alone might re-enter low, but still. Happier will also probably rise a spot or two. Impressive what a game can do to an artist's popularity nowadays.

But yeah, games let Utada Hikaru chart.

Nicki, in an episode of her Queen Radio show on Apple Music, confirmed that she was done with her follow-up album to #Queen and that her label was readying the first single. She also dropped two unofficial freestyles yesterday - one using the Meek Mill & Drake song, Going Bad, and the other using the Lil Baby & Gunna song, Drip Too Hard. I'm thinking we see even more album releases this year from major stars than we did last year.

And Epic Games released a Marshmello skin with a pickaxe that plays "Alone" when you smack it which can make it stuck in some peoples heads and make them stream it

We don't need Trashmello to pollute the Hot 100 further. Please and thank you.

It not 2013 Katy is definitely no longer an A lister Lol, okay. She's literally one of the highest paid female musicians and her latest tour did well. One album era that isn't super successful does not instantly kill one's career. And if I recall, CTTR and Witness both did well in their first weeks while the two "flop" singles still did really well in streaming, especially when their videos dropped. Someone who isn't a top celebrity isn't going to have that. Hell, she just had a Christmas track reach #53 on the Hot 100, and it was only available on Amazon. Amazon. Not Spotify, not Apple Music, not Google Play, not YouTube, not Pandora, not even Tidal. Amazon, one of the least popular music streaming services. And she still had that big of a draw for a cheesy Christmas track. If that's not enough proof to you that millions of people are still checking for Katy Perry, then you're a lost cause and this conversation is over because I'm not talking to a brick wall. Anyway, for what it's worth, Rihanna confirmed those were just rumors. What exactly are you trying to defend? LMFAO. The “Witness” era was and will remain one of the biggest flop eras of all time, particularly in the U.S where the album has yet to surpass 250K sales and has barely moved over 1M SPS units. The album itself stayed on the Billboard 200 for only 20 weeks and the only reason it sold marginally well in its first week was because of the tour bundles. As for the singles Hot 100 performance, they all performed abysmally. “Chained To The Rhythm”: #4 “Bon Appétit”: #59 “Swish Swish”: #46 Her last tour did not perform well at all and was a disaster in both attendance and gross and if we are/were to compare it to the “PRISM” tour the results would be heavily embarrassing. @drakeisskinny was completely correct in what he said. It is no longer 2013, a solo Katy Perry release is not going to be a threat to absolutely any high-profile musician in 2019 and especially now that we’re so deep into the streaming era unless she featured on a Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Drake, Cardi B etc. track

What? You clearly don't know what THE REAL FLOP IS. Witness has over 3 billion streams WW. Chained To The Rhythm 5.5 million SPS WW (2.1 million US)Bon Appetit 2.3 million WW (1 million US)Swish Swish 3.6 million WW (1.6 million US)
+ Feels Yeah, Roar has more streams and SPS than these 3 together, but still, it's not THAT BAD. CTTR performed ABYSMALLY? Okay. I like her music and imo, her last era was cringe af (not counting CTTR) and I had zero interest for Witness. With the right song and behavior and promotion, she'll be just fine.

Now, I’m not disputing that Perry was once a force; the “Teenage Dream” era is one of the top five biggest mainstream musical peaks the past 25 years but that era is long gone.

I think Witness was a huge flop for Katy's standards. The Youtube streams are kinda meaningless. JLo also gets a huge amount of love there but the songs are still not hits.
But I also think she could rebound easily if she wasn't taking way too long to come back. Younger audiences are moving on to Ariana, Selena and newer names like Ava Max, Camila, Dua, etc... She hasn't been able to move on to other fields like Lady Gaga, who hasn't cracked top 10 on Pop radio since 2014 but she still remains relevant.
CTTR wasn't abysmal, it's the best song on the project by far and it did manage to go top 10 for a couple weeks... but then it failed to even get 20 weeks on the chart. "Feels" was a hit mostly in Europe, the US has relatively paid dust to Calvin Harris' stuff without Rihanna for a few years now. After three relatively huge eras in a row she was probably due to come back down to earth, and tbh the material is clearly her worst IMO, so it was deserved.

Honestly the signs were there with Prism considering only 2 of the 5 singles were big hits. It was a big era for her, but at the same time it wasn't as consistent as the previous two albums. And then Witness was worse by far, but in a sense a continuation of a decline.

I just listened to the eras latter singles ‘Birthday’ and ‘This Is How We Do’ and it is literally the first time I’ve heard either since 2014. ‘Unconditionally’, sadly, was completely overshadowed by ‘Dark Horse’ while on its way up the charts but it still managed a high top 20 peak which makes it a moderate hit.

Why are J.Cole’s songs so damn frontloaded? I honestly don’t understand it.
I feel like the only way he’ll achieve a number one now is through a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Drake etc.
It’s a good things he's massively acclaimed as an artist.

The new song was #2 on U.S. Spotify yesterday, so it's not like it completely fell off after a few days. If it had been released on Friday instead of Thursday, could it not have challenged for #1?

He’s frontloaded because he doesn’t cater to casual music fans. You don’t really see him on the big talk shows or award shows even though he has the sales to warrant it. His base eats up his music but I’m not sure the average radio listener has a strong idea of who he is compared to Arianna, post Malone, drake, etc

The “Witness” era remains one of the biggest flops of all-time across all platforms and it is certainly the biggest commercial failure (released by an alleged ‘A-list’ artist this decade) of the streaming era thus far. Someone posted earlier witness has yet to pass 250k, however I wanted to point out it was at 288k at the end up 2017. Comparatively to these artists. Joanne outperformed witness with around triple its US sales and million reasons selling over a million. Revival and Man of the woods outsold witness in a worse sales climate. They both got one solid hit just like witness did. I don’t really see 21 pilots as comparable to the rest of this group. Katy outdid Queen, liberation, and the Britney albums no question asked.

Someone posted earlier prism has yet to pass 250k, however I wanted to point out it was at 288k at the end up 2017. Comparatively to these artists. Joanne outperformed prism with around triple its US sales and million reasons selling over a million. Revival and Man of the woods outsold prism in a worse sales climate. They both got one solid hit just like prism did. I don’t really see 21 pilots as comparable to the rest of this group. Katy outdid Queen, liberation, and the Britney albums no question asked. You mean Witness?
