Pleasantly surprised to see "Ebony and Ivory" as low as it is. I expected "Love in the First Degree" to be low, but that's always been one of the Alabama songs that I've decently appreciated.
Air Supply going out means that almost all of the riff raff is also out. My #92 will probably last a little while longer, so I'm not expecting that to go away in the next set, but my #100 not showing up yet...oh dear.

Here's the thing: I really wanted to like this song more, because I do appreciate its message, especially these days, in the age of social media thots (Instagram is worst of all). But did the production really have to be so damn sappy? Good message, poor execution.

People just tanked this because it's country.

Speaking of smoove music from 1982: "Avalon" - Roxy Music(Did not chart in the U.S., but peaked at #13 in the U.K.)

#90. Key Largo - Bertie HigginsI remember this on the radio and I never liked it. I was still able to find 15 songs worse than this on the list. #89 . The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known) - Juice Newton More or less where it belongs. If our parents were doing this rank down this song would end up much much higher. #88. Even The Nights Are Better - Air SupplyThis one is alright. It's way Sappier than "Sweet Dreams" so I don't know what criteria you all used to rank the two? #87. Love In The First Degree - AlabamaDidn't recall this one, but I didn't think it was that bad. better than the other Alabama "wonders". #86. Oh No - CommodoresI liked this R&B ballad. better than the sappy ones Lionel released in 83-84. #85. Any Day Now - Ronnie MilsapI always hated hearing this one on Casey Kasem's Ameriacn Top 40. #84. Ebony & Ivory - Paul McCartney & Stevie WonderI had to do a double take here. WTF is wrong with this song? It's way better than the other Stevie Wonder songs here and has a wonderful message to go along. Or you don't want harmony among the races? Its no Wonder there are no more ballads on Pop. #83. One Hundred Ways - Quincy Jones ft. James IngramI didn't care for this one at all. ballad or not it just seemed too simple. #82. Goin' Down - Greg GuidryI do recall this one getting massive airplay on the Lite Rock radio stations. Player was one of those bands that had this smooth vibe. #81. You Could Have Been With Me - Sheena EastonThis is way too low for Sheena. I'm basically nicer to female sung pop ballads and this one had especially great vocals. No wonder there are no more High powered vocals on Pop anymore.

Oof, "Wasted on the Way" is the first really solid song to go. Is it up there with CSN's best? Not really, no. But it was just a really nice little song.
On the other hand, I'm glad you didn't give that Diana cover a free pass. Nothing special at all.

#73
It's Gonna Take A Miracle Deniece Williams
Total Points: 809
Billboard Hot 100: 10
Billboard Top 100 of 1982: 71
From: Niecy
First recorded in 1965 by The Royalettes (who took their version to No. 41), "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" obtained its most successful incarnation with Deniece Williams who took it to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of June 12, 1982.
Sorry 🇯🇲 dollybaby 🇯🇲 but you lose a Top 10 placement with this leaving the rankdown...
Say what???? This is such a travesty! This shouldn't be out so soon! It's one of her best songs.

To no one’s surprise Cody Wants Out... and myself have the highest ranking for Alabama’s “Love in the First Degree” (him a top 10 and me a top 15) as we’re both fans of their music. This song was the 5th of a long streak of #1 singles they’d have during the early to mid 80s. I’m also the highest ranker for two other country songs including “Any Day Now” by Ronnie Milsap and Kenny Rogers’ “Love Will Turn You Around”. I’m curious how many submitted for “A Love Song” and didn't resubmit for the correct song. This has always been one of my favorite songs by Kenny and ended up being one of my top songs for 1982. I honestly had never heard “Ebony and Ivory” before and on my first listen I didn’t really like it much. I decided to give it a couple more try’s but ended up liking it a bit less with each subsequent listen. I did a bit of research on this song and while it was a big hit at the time it seems to have gone on to be a bit more controversial and has even gone on to be regarded as either the worst song or worst duet of all time by listeners and some trade magazines. “You Could Have Been With Me” was also a first listen for me and I ended up enjoying it more and more each time. I found most of the bottom half of the songs to be hit or miss so this ended up somewhere in the middle and just outside of my top 50.
