I was thinking about this last night but A Star Was Born wasn’t released until October, this qualifying it for the 2020 Grammys, and I remember reading something about it being held back as to not compete with Black Panther for the music awards? Does that make sense? Anyway, Shallow already had its shot and is likely the only hit from it but I’m wondering if there are expectations for the soundtrack or any of its other songs to get recognition? If so, we’ll unlikely see a new Gaga album/single until after September 2019.

Ella Mai, H.E.R. and Ariana feel like safe bets, at least for now. Cardi B and Drake both are probably releasing soon-ish. Camila went home empty handed but I expect her team to push even harder with her next album. Dua Lipa took two, surprisingly, and her next album is probably coming around summer.
The A Star is Born soundtrack probably peaked too early. They're trying to push I'll Never Love Again in some markets, which would help it's chances, but I can't see it being a big hit.
Is this the year Rihanna finally gets a big general field one? If the album is on the same level as ANTI and they manage it a bit better she might have a shot.

Terror Jr for AOTY + BNA, Broods for SOTY (Life After) and an Ari sweep in the pop field + ROTY (thank u, next) are imminent and completely in the sphere of possibility.
oh shit, we have to give Billie Eilish something too. Maybe BNA and a rock win because we all know that's how the elderly at the committee will categorise her as.

Rihanna play too much, saying an album is coming but then liking fan comments on Instagram about how we're never going to get the album. Adele is slated for this year, but last I saw was a planned Q4 release, which would put her in the 2021 season. Beyonce is also working on something, according to The Dream, but no timeline was given. I believe Miley said she had some new music coming this year? I am assuming Dancing With a Stranger is the lead for an upcoming Sam album. And speaking of DWAS, I don't know yet what expectations to have for it, but Normani's debut is coming as well. |

I'm still miffed Love Lies didn't snag a nomination or two, but the way the 2019 nominations panned out, I kind of get why it happened.Hopefully that just makes her bring it even harder this year. She certainly seems to have the industry's support. |

Dance/Electronic would be much more in her favor than Pop. Barring a massive plummet in goodwill, Ariana will get noms in the 3 general fields. Wins not guaranteed, but she starts out the favorite for Pop Solo Performance. If there's a rock act in AOTY, it will likely be The 1975. Mariah will get nominations in R&B. Whether she'll win depends on the competition. If SZA comes correct, she's in the running too. If Cardi's second album comes out in the eligibility period, she will likely be nominated. More Drake, more noms. Kendrick? The Weeknd? (not LOTF obv, a full album if it comes) After the Oscars, I don't think there's anything else to keep ASIB in the public eye, it's a long gap from then til the nominations period, and nothing other than Shallow has stood on its own in terms of attention. I think if they submit a song to Pop Solo Performance, it could get a nom, but will likely lose to Ariana, and I can see the full soundtrack getting in for AOTY, but losing. There may or may not be a more acoustic Ed Sheeran album this year. Right now, I'd put Ed as likely to lose to Ariana in terms of actually winning the award, but nominations in the Pop fields are likely. Sam & Normani's duet is getting a Pop/Duo nom more likely than not. |
