I can't see ASIB winning but I'd say it's pretty surely nominated as one of the "safe choices". How many slots there are in the album category? Eight. I think the four sure-fire locks are Ariana, Lizzo, Billie, and ASIB.

I'm not sure what it is about this year, but I don't think I will or even can attempt to do nomination predictions. I don't have a good feel at all for where the voter energy is beyond three or four really obvious picks.

I normally do a set of predicitons for the 4 main awards, and I'm sure I'll try again, but I find it harder to do each year... yet somehow I still get a decent number correct, between 60-80%. And the nominations are out next week?

And the nominations are out next week? Yep, next Wednesday. I keep forgetting that it's happening so early due to the earlier eligibility cutoff and show date. Maybe I should do what you do and try to only focus on the Big 4. I usually do the general field, pop, r&b, hip-hop, and a few other categories of interest. Even with the GF though, I don't know if I could pull a half-decent prediction together. I'm mainly interested in seeing if the show boomerangs back to mainstream pop after paying it dust in AOTY last year, or if this will be the second year in a row that they limit their recognition for commercial success to ROTY and SOTY. Also, given the tiff Ariana had with the show runners last year I am curious if that will bear any effect on her GF potential this year (it shouldn't, but this show can be so persnickety when it comes to showing main committee love).

I thoroughly expect Ariana Grande to win Album of the Year, and I kind of hope she does, too. TUN was a huge, cultural hit this year. Billie Eilishโs record was, too, but not in the same way that AGโs impacted. I get that it isn't a fair comparison, per se, but it would be a travesty if Ariana wins AOTY when Mariah, Madonna, and Janet never have. The fact that Taylor Swift has two and has been nominated 5(?) times is just as tragic.

Having 8 nominees make things hard to predict and less fun to do so. Having only 5 makes it more exciting to predict which could be dropped off and which could surprise.

Honestly, with how everywhere this year seem to go for critics, I can't really gauge any easy picks, so this is a total shot in the dark, but...
AOTY Contenders- my best guess at a winner right now would be TUN, but I am not confident in that at all thank u, next WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? IGOR When I Get Home Cuz I Love You i, i Fear Inoculum Ventura A Star Is Born Lover
S/ROTY Contenders - kind of have a good feeling (like 60%) about TH winning one of them (leaning towards Song), it's age could hinder it for some voters though / maybe Sunflower for Record? Truth Hurts thank u, next bad guy Old Town Road Seรฑorita I'll Never Love Again Sunflower Middle Child You Need to Calm Down
New Artist - honestly think it's between Billie and Lizzo this year Billie Eilish Lizzo Maggie Rogers Lil Nas X Really at a loss for who else might be here.
Probably some others that aren't immediately coming to mind, and I'm sure there's going to be a weird outlier no one will expect because it just seems like that kind of year, ya know?

If the Grammys were anything like the Oscars, LDR would be the overwhelming favorite in AOTY category.
She has three important factors working in her favor: massively acclaimed album, the best and most compelling career story arc out of all the other potential nominees, and overdue narrative.

Sheโs been around long enough to have an overdue narrative?

I have a strong feeling Lizzo will be snubbed. Now, I'll save this post and quote it after she wins 4/4 main categories in the ceremony I think it's down to Billie vs Gaga/Bradley for the big one. Those along with 'thank u, next' and 'IGOR' are the only nominations I think are secure.

Snubbed for nominations? There is absolutely no way Lizzo doesn't get all the big nominations.

I think people are overhyping ASIB way too much. It is going to be nominated, sure, but I donโt see it being THAT strong contender to win at all. I understand the reason why someone would associate this kind of music with Grammy favoritism, but there is more to the equation than: safe album + commercial success = AOTY win.
That said, I see these scenarios happening:
1- If Bruce is nominated, he is going to win hands down.
2- If Bruce isnโt and Taylor is, she will be the favorite to win again. She has major industry support right now for speaking up in favor of music artists against executives, plus she will get a big boost for her Oscar/GG campaign.
3- The third option is Billie.

Read Max/Cynthia's exchange and thought it was talking bout the PMA's for far too long lol.
Quite liking the female support we're seeing this year, looks like mainly the females leading the way right now.

Bruce Springsteen? No way he's coming out of nowhere to win a Grammy in big category with his lowest-ever selling album?

But for some reason I'm seeing a lot of people mentioning his name lately as a strong contender for a nomination, so I thought it was relevant to bring his name.

He has never won Album of the Year, even with Born in the USA or The Rising which have been his most acclaimed albums in the Grammys.
I think he's likely to be nominated in the genre category though (rock most likely?)

Donโt people predict Bruce with every album, usually to no avail?

Sheโs been around long enough to have an overdue narrative? Probably not - but when I look back on this decade, I definitely get the impression that she's overdue for some Grammy recognition. And this year definitely feels like the right moment.

I finally found this thread thanks to Codex, so hereโs a bunch of thoughts Iโve had a running around in my head for the past few weeks - After the Latin Grammys, Iโm expecting Rosalรญa to get an AOTY nom. Yola might be this yearโs H.E.R/Brandi. Very sad Tierra Whack isnโt eligible for BNA, but โUnemployedโ will at least get a BMV nom.I doubted โLoverโ would get any big three nominations, but after Borchettagate, itโs give the GRAMMYs some good publicity. Lizzo and Billie have nominations in the bag, and I genuinely think Maggie Rogers has a shot. Robyn maybe? Thereโs a โf**kโ in NFR, which could be a problem, but Cee Loโs โf**k Youโ got noms so ya never know

They would definitely do that if Lana got a nom as well, but I don't know what they'd refer to it as. Probably "the album otherwise known as Norman Rockwell."

I'm going to try to narrow down a nominations list now. There are the obvious ones but other than the big hits (that aren't as obvious as Grammy contenders), there's not really anything on the outside that seems to really have a lot of buzz this year, which is strange to me.

WILL THE SECRET COMMITTEE HELP BRING STAR POWER TO THE GRAMMYS? Itโs not the first time weโve asked this question, but it bears repeating: Given the way new artists are dominating the marketplace at present, will the Grammy Secret Nominating Committee furnish enough top-tier noms to established superstars to ensure said artists will perform on Musicโs Biggest Night, upping the likelihood of strong ratings? Weโre talking about stars like Taylor Swift, Beyoncรฉ, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran, several of whom have been seriously (and even serially) snubbed in the past. The word is that this is very much on the radar of the Recording Academyโs forward-looking new leadership. Noms come out Wednesday. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=318813&title=WILL-THE-SECRET-COMMITTEE-HELP-BRING-STAR-POWER-TO-THE-GRAMMYS%3F :|

WHO COULD BE THIS YEAR'S BRANDI? MAGGIE MAY Who could be the Brandi Carlile of this yearโs Grammys? Quite a few insiders are betting on Maggie Rogers as a deserving wildcard. The scuttlebutt among Grammy watchers is that the Secret Nominating Committee may be about to reward Rogers when noms come out Wednesday, and that she could be in the mix for more than Best New Artist. Rogers has won plaudits for her Capitol album Heard It in a Past Life as well as for single โLight On,โ a love letter to her fans. That Rogersโwho first pinged the radar at an NYU masterclass, where Pharrell Williams became an instant evangelist for her talentโserved as a producer on her project as well as songwriter/performer further ups her cred in Grammyville. Assuming the murmurs about her are true, could Rogers go all the way? Stay tuned. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=318812&title=WHO-COULD-BE-THIS-YEAR%27S-BRANDI%3F-MAGGIE-MAY

The Grammys have never shied away from nominating big names. Itโs who they choose as winners that go against the mediaโs picks. With 8 nominees in the big categories I expect more of it. I wish more indie artists got recognized more. Iโm glad HER got her time last year.
