I give it to Billie tho. Shes doing just about everything herself with her brother on her side. Now as for her sophomore, idk what sounds they are going to explore, but Finneas is diverse in production so only time will tell.

The fact that Billie and Finneas wrote and produced a lot of the album IMO is way more deserving than a lot of others. They are talented and did it for the music, not for the awards, and it shows.

With the way Billie just swept, I don't think it made a difference what Ariana or anyone else submitted. Also, I would say Ariana got India.Arie'd more so than she did Mariah'ed. Daydream was losing to any and everybody. A f**king frog with laryngitis would have beaten her, that's how much the voters back then wanted nothing to do with her. India OTOH just had the bad luck of debuting during Alicia's big year (and then the one category she wasn't against Alicia in she lost to a damn soundtrack). Once the industry makes up its mind to give someone a sweep there's nothing anyone else can do about it really. Isn't even worth feeling bad about because at least you know it's not really anything you did wrong. Billie didn't win Pop Solo though. I believe had they submitted "thank you, next" she would've won. Lizzo REALLY got lucky this year in that category. I don't think Ariana would have won that either though. Without Lizzo there Billie would have taken it. Honestly it just makes me more confused as to how Lizzo didn't pull off a SOTY or ROTY win. Lizzo is the first black woman to win pop solo - a bit of a technicality since there were black female winners when female pop vocal perf still existed, but still, that is a neat little bit of 'history' under her belt. |

Because it's a huge honor to even be nominated in the category let alone win since there are tons of new musicians eligible every year and you only get one shot at it. It's also all-genre and all-niche like the other big 3. |

This is the type of sh*t Grammys pull that makes you think... They literally asked a singer songwriter to come out and perform... behind Usher, dancing. I know FKA Twigs is a passionate dancer but GORL you couldn't let her do part of it, or bg vocals, something, anything. This is why I fully believe there's misogyny and racism running in the Recording Academy and replacing one admin won't fix it.

The India.Arie erasure in that tweet is no bueno Maybe random, but why is Best New Artist considered one of the "big 4?" It's such a limited category considered only a few people are eligible each year, I don't get how it can be one of the main categories. 1. BNA is the only award given to directly to an artist and not to a specific piece of work (except for non-classical/classical producer of the year; oddly enough those two are virtually never televised or treated as major) 2. In theory, it is a huge honor to be recognized for making such a huge imact in your 'debut' year that a body full of established industry members and artists think it's worth recognizing you. The award's image has become unfairly maligned over time, but to someone trying to get in it's still generally a big deal. The thing that makes BNA so off is that there is no corresponding Artist of the Year category. Kind of ironic that the Grammys is supposed to be the biggest night in music but it's the only music show out there that doesn't have such an award. I personally would do away with the big 4 entirely if it were up to me, but if we have to keep a 'general' field I would restrict it to BNA and an overal Artist OTY. |
