This was just awful timing for Ari. She could’ve won last year, but the one-two punch of Billie & Lizzo was too strong. Unsurprisingly, hugely successful new talents ate up the vast majority of the votes.

New talents winning is always better than another undeserved victory for acts like U2, but still feel a bit bad for Ariana.

I think Billie Eilish totally deserves her wins tonight. A teenage girl who makes her own music with her brother at home has changed the whole industry without following any of its rules. I'm so glad that she's the one who made history. I do feel bad for Ariana but she's here to stay. She's one of the hardest working artists out there now and I'm sure she will have more opportunities real soon.

Meh, this year's winners mostly suck, but that isn't surprising, considering the nominations.
I don't really rate Billie Eilish. That 'Ocean Eyes' song was promising, but her debut album didn't do anything for me. I also find 'Bad Guy' really annoying.
Too bad this poor musical output got rewarded, but I guess the voters bought into her hype. I hope she disappears into oblivian ASAP.

The India.Arie erasure in that tweet is no bueno Maybe random, but why is Best New Artist considered one of the "big 4?" It's such a limited category considered only a few people are eligible each year, I don't get how it can be one of the main categories. 1. BNA is the only award given to directly to an artist and not to a specific piece of work (except for non-classical/classical producer of the year; oddly enough those two are virtually never televised or treated as major) 2. In theory, it is a huge honor to be recognized for making such a huge imact in your 'debut' year that a body full of established industry members and artists think it's worth recognizing you. The award's image has become unfairly maligned over time, but to someone trying to get in it's still generally a big deal. The thing that makes BNA so off is that there is no corresponding Artist of the Year category. Kind of ironic that the Grammys is supposed to be the biggest night in music but it's the only music show out there that doesn't have such an award. I personally would do away with the big 4 entirely if it were up to me, but if we have to keep a 'general' field I would restrict it to BNA and an overal Artist OTY. I understand BNA can be a fun category to watch, but I have a hard time seeing it as one of the top categories since it’s only open to a specific percentage of the music released in a given year. It sounds silly to me to hear 21 didn’t sweep all the big categories just because BNA is considered one of the big categories. I don’t object the category itself, but I see it as more of a curiosity. I can’t imagine though the Academy Awards doing away with Best Actor and adding a Best New Actor category. One question: is Best New Artist exclusive for performers or are other artists (composers, songwriters, etc) eligible? I don’t recall any nominees that were not singers/bands.

Okay, so Demi, Jonas Brothers snd... HER are allowed to perform new songs, while Camila, Ariana and even Billie who won big time had to perform fossils. Also I find it so unfair Billie winning like 5,6 awards(?) while Ari who has been around for some years and literally had the biggest year for her and for any female artist this year, got snubbed. This year's was pure s**t....

It doesn't help Ariana that her hype peaked at this time last year. Voters probably felt she was old news.
Time for Billie to get some haters! No one can win this big without getting some backlash.

Maybe an unpopular opinion - but Ariana's quality is not good. Yeah they're bops and hits, but the quality just isn't up to snuff compared to Lizzo and Billie.

Lana definitely had the AOTY, but the Grammys are what they are. I found Billie’s and Lizzo’s albums uneven.

I can't believe Best Comedy Album is really being presented on the main show. They'd do anything not to give out a R&B award on the main show.

This is the first time I saw Ariana acting 'womanly' in a performance without any of the lolita-isms she's known for. She killed the choreo as well which was even more surprising. 7 Rings was A SONG and deserved an award. How come Billie won all of the big 4 but somehow lost the genre category? I know that different people vote for different categories but this s**t will never make sense to me. I'll also never get over the adlibs on the chorus of Truth Hurts. The selling point of the song for me.

I'm glad I didn't watch most of this if Ariana lost Album. I'm not surprised she lost with "7 rings," but the album itself deserved to win.

They just Mariah'd Ari. She's in great company. Not even close to a 1996 tea as none of her nominations were truly deserved. However, the Grammys played her like a fiddle.

This is creepy Can’t believe they’re the same age. Mariah looks like a woman and Ariana looks like a teenage girl.

wonder if this is the last we’ll see of Billie “Buckwild” Eilish and Lizzo. They both seem like novelty acts to me

Billie already notched a new top 10 hit that was not on the album so... probably not the last you see of her.
As for Billie losing the Pop Song award, while winning the big ones, it probably means she got a lot of extra support from people from other genres (considering her album has a lot of alt influences, it's not a stretch).
Much like Lorde, Lana feels like someone put there by the committee instead of actual votes. That can get you a nom but people still have to vote for her in order to win, so she came up short. In her case the nod was already a huge win. I say this without taking into consideration the album's actual quality, which we all know doesn't really matter for the Grammys lol, or Lil Nas X's EP wouldn't be there.

I feel bad for Ariana. I don’t mind Billie winning AOTY, but I think “Thank U, Next” should’ve taken home Pop Vocal Album. She busted her ass the last year and was such a prominent part of the zeitgeist. Aside from that, the album was great and CERTAINLY a better body of work than “Sweetener.” Different years and competition, though, of course.

IDK...I like Billie, but all four?
The same artist won ROTY AOTY and SOTY in 2017 (Adele) , 2018 (Bruno) and 2020 (Billie). Kinda boring.

Overall, it will be interesting to see where the Grammys go from here with the allegations. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if it will have an effect on next year’s nominations.

Ugh what disappointing on air winners tonight. But HOW did Billie lose Pop Song??!?!? Has there ever been a time where a song won Record/Song and lost their genre category? “Sunny Came Home” won Record and Song but lost Pop Female. It lost to something not nominated in the general categories, though.
