I don’t dislike the song at all, but it is easily my least favourite on the album. I never considered putting anything else at #10.

Lol sorry, I didn't mean to only do one reveal yesterday My sister came in to my room and distracted me, and then I got roped into having dinner with my family, watching the new episode of Tiger King, and then it was too late and y'all were probably in bed! But now I'm ready to proceed ;)

Somehow she always knew she had the strength inside, And even if she fell she'd survive. In spite of all the tears she may cry, This is how she has to live her life. As hard as it may be, she has to find out for herself.

"For Herself" tells a really empowering story of a hard-headed woman who never listens to others telling her she can't do things and prefers to find out for herself, however I have always thought this song sounded way too dated for its own good. It sounds more like it belonged on Sweet Sixteen or something. I like the song quite a bit, but I am honestly kinda tired of it (for some reason whenever I put my music library on shuffle, this has been one that consistently seems to come up pretty regularly for YEARS now... Lol)
This one started out around #6 for about 1/2 of the submission process, until it suddenly got tanked straight to #9, where it carved out a consistent niche for itself.
That doesn't mean the battle wasn't fierce though! In the end, this song only finished ONE POINT behind the #8 song, so this was very much still a competitor, unlike "Baby's Gone Blues"!

Your memory's still hurtin' deep inside. That's something I'm still learnin' how to hide. Though this heart of mine has lost an ache or two, I've only turned a lighter shade of blue.

"Lighter Shade Of Blue" was our primary #9 contender until "For Herself" took over, at which point this one got a bit of traction and bounced around in the 6-8 range for the rest of submissions. I really like this one. The chorus is really strong imo, and I love the contrast between the lighter verses and the heavier chorus, if that makes any sense. The lyrics are also really picturesque to me. "Here and there I've turned a stone, but the mountain hasn't moved" in particular stands out as being quite evocative imo. taylor joins ClevelandRox in the #2 loss club, while BackwoodsBarbie and George Strait Junkie both lose a #3. Most people put this in the 7-9 range though.

How can a memory last this long? Will he ever go away? Even the stars burn out and fall. Will he ever go away? How can someone who left so long ago Still be here with me today? Will he ever go away?

"Will He Ever Go Away" is the song on this album that I feel like I never really paid attention to or remember. I have earned a whole new appreciation for it thanks to this rankdown, just like I did for "He's In Dallas" on the last album. It seemed to be pretty well-loved too, as it started out as a strong top 5 contender at first. Midway through the rankdown it got tanked out of the top 5 and set up a consistent trajectory at #8, but the results between 6-9 were all so close that it was never that far behind, and was able to sneak up to #7 at the last minute.

I would’ve been surprised to see anything but “Baby’s Gone Blues” come in last place and as was mentioned in a previous post this more or less was always going to be at or near the bottom for me as well. That’s not to say it isn’t a good song because it has its strengths, but all that aside this just isn’t a song I find myself in a mood to revisit often.
“For Herself” is one of two songs on the album that always make me think of my mom and how she might’ve dealt with my father’s passing leaving two boys to raise on her own. Although this song isn’t about the death of a spouse, this line has always really resonated with me: In spite of all the tears she may cry, This is how she has to live her life, As hard as it may be, she has to find out for herself
I almost put “Lighter Shade of Blue” in last place because honestly it is the one song on the album I can never remember how it goes and I find myself having to revisit it every time just to refresh my memory. The song also just never manages to hold onto my attention as the pace yo-yo’s between the verse’s and the chorus.
“Will He Ever Go Away” is the second song on the album that always brings back the memory of my mom. I’m not sure her and I ever really sat down to talk about her mindset after the sudden loss of my dad and how she dealt with the pain for all those years, but I think this song would explain most of that grief she felt.

People love to talk, And Lord I've heard it all. A rumor's not a stranger in this town. Now me, I pay no mind, But it's hittin' home this time. Now I've been told you've gone and let me down.

Don't let my #9 rank fool you, I really enjoy this song a lot! I feel like I underranked it... I just must not have been feeling it as much as I normally do when I made my list.
The results between 6-9 were all so close that those songs pretty much flip-flopped for most of the submission process, with this one failing to achieve any consistency whatsoever. Our top 5 was pretty much the top 5 for the entire submission process, but this one did manage to sneak in there briefly a couple lists from the end!

The three singles were always going to be a lock so it was just a matter of determining which two album tracks would make it in. Although I was hoping for a different album track, it really isn't much of a surprise that "He Wants To Get Married" and "One Last Good Hand" are the two that did make it. The top two songs are likely to be "The Heart Won't Lie" and "It's Your Call", so it really comes down to guessing where the other three songs will place. Here are my predictions:
5. He Wants To Get Married 4. One Last Good Hand 3. Take It Back 2. It's Your Call 1. The Heart Won't Lie
I think there is a chance that "Take It Back" could potentially exit at #4, but even though it'll have its share of detractors I usually have to give the single a slight edge over an album track.

What I want: 1. He Wants To Get Married 2. The Heart Won’t Lie 3. Take It Back 4. It’s Your Call 5. One Last Good Hand
But that's nonsensical. Here's the prediction: 1. The Heart Won’t Lie 2. Take It Back 3. It’s Your Call 4. He Wants To Get Married 5. One Last Good Hand

Lighter Shade Of Blue and Will He Ever Go Away are two songs that I discovered a while ago and I liked them both instantly. They both have nice tender melodies with sad lyrics and that's the combination I like the most in a song.
That being said I'm not surprised that neither of them made it into top 5 because the same reasons that make me like this two songs so much are also the reasons that they don't really stand out.
Now my #2 and #3 are gone but I fully expect that my #1 will win.

I never thought I would be so blessed To know a man like this. He's everything, everything I believe That a man should be.
And when he is called to his maker, He wants to go to his grave With his final remembrance of this earth To be one last look at his wife's face. He wants to get married. He wants to get married. Oh, he wants to get married,
But not to me...

Bowing out at #5, we have our first #1 loss of the rankdown ( taylor's) with "He Wants To Get Married". This has always been one of my favorite album tracks from Reba. The first time I heard it I was so confused because the lyrics are so happy, but the music and arrangement sounds so freaking sad. The entire song had me perched because it just keeps getting happier and sweeter while sounding sadder and sadder. It's a really interesting dichotomy! Until all of a sudden I got to that iconic "But not to me..." concluding line, and got goosebumps over my entire body... One of the best twists of anybody's career This song is a true work of art, and I am pleased we got it into the top 5 here! It was pretty much always on pace to finish around #5, although a few people tried their hardest to tank it...

The stars are way out of reach, they all said. Those are crazy schemes that fill your fool head. But it was clear from the moment we met We could prove them wrong. All my life I heard that same old story: Dare to dream and you'll just be sorry. I might have given up my shot at glory, But then you came along.

So there was absolutely no contest for being the highest album track on this album. "One Last Good Hand" was it for essentially the entire submission process. It only took like 3 lists for it to take off with a commanding lead over the next highest. I was pretty sure that would happen, but I am super happy to see that I was not wrong! This song is one of the biggest missed hit opportunities of her entire career, in my opinion. The melody of this one goes down SO easy (despite the lyrics claiming that that is not the expectation of the narrator, lmao). This is one of those earworms that will NOT leave your mind once it gets stuck there. Not to mention it is the only catchy uptempo on this entire album. I have no clue what the sub top 5 rankers were thinking....... I would honestly not be shocked to see this one win the 1990s album tracks rankdown. It at least will probably be a contender for the top 3! This one was consistently at #4 behind the singles, but tbh it was always just a point or two away from creeping into the top 3!! In fact, it finally made its way into the top 3 with the second-to-last list, but then it fell back at the last possible second because I let Troublemaker submit late, and he inexplicably tanked it to hell......

You told me I was everything you wanted and more. Then tell me what you're doing now sneaking out the back door. You're bringing home flowers and a bottle of Chablis. You forgot I don't drink wine; I know that bottle's not for me. If this is how you act when you give your heart away, Well, take it back. Ah, take it back.

"Take It Back" made it up to #2 a few times, but was pretty much always on pace to be the lowest single. Its primary competitor was "One Last Good Hand", which is a much better song but unfortunately did not have the benefit of single bias working in its favor.
"Take It Back" has always been one of my least favorite Reba songs.... I honestly cannot stand it. The only good thing to come from this song is one of the most epic music videos of Reba's career. Otherwise, everything about this one, from the melody to the arrangement to the vocal performance, is the definition of annoying to me. I cannot believe this song has so many fans...

It's your call; it's her. Would you rather take it in the other room? She's hangin' on, and so am I. Yeah, I know all about it. Don't act so surprised. It's time to end this game you're playin'. She's not the only one who's waitin' on the line.
