There you have it! Once again, absolutely no contest whatsoever for our victor. "It's Your Call" is a clever song, with an awesome double-entendre in the hook. One of my favorite aspects of that song is the epic electric guitar/steel guitar echo solo that happens at the climax of the song. However, it doesn't compare to "The Heart Won't Lie"! That belted chorus is one of Reba's best belt jobs of the early '90s Not to mention that she and Vince sound pretty great together. Thanks for participating/following along! Y'all stay perched for what's next! ;)

I strongly DISAGREE!! “Take It Back” was the perfect lead single! It was fresh and new awesome upbeat and that saxophone to boot! It was a classic independent women take no shit Reba song.
In fact, my personal opinion: it is a better song than “Why I Haven’t Heard From You” which is one of my all time favorites but for me when comparing the two Take It Back was just a little better.

I first loved Reba introducing the sax back in 1989 with “Walk On” and two album tracks: “A New Love” and “Somebody Up There Likes Me” I personally love the sassy Reba the saxophone brought out in her singing.

And I am a saxophone player, who usually loves saxophone!!! I think my biggest issue with TIB is Reba's delivery. She growls like an angry bear for like the entirety of "Take It Back" 😂 I think it adds character when it happens occasionally, but she does it so much in that song that she just starts to sound like an angry Sesame Street character if you focus too hard on it. She has certainly added saxophone in ways that I love too. For example, that live version of "You Lie" that she has jazzed up with the sax solo at the end is absolutely killer I think I'm also not always a fan of uptempo songs with minor keys. Minor keys are great for songs like "He Wants To Get Married", but with my uptempos I usually prefer a bright and happy sound like with "The Fear Of Being Alone" or "One Last Good Hand". Still, I'm glad you like it and were able to see one of your favorite songs do well despite my attempted tanking!

Actually, When Reba introduced the saxophone in her concerts in 1989. I actually prefer three songs on her 1989 Live album where she added the sax to all 3 album versions that did not have the sax.
Those being:
1986’s “Let The Music Lift You Up” 1988’s Respect 1988’s Sunday Kind Of Love”
It was because of Reba I developed an appreciation for the saxophone.

Bowing out at #5, we have our first #1 loss of the rankdown (taylor 's) with "He Wants To Get Married". because if it wasn't something would be wrong and i oop!!!! tbh "It's Your Call" is one of my least favorite of Reba's 90s songs. I'm not surprised to see that I tried to tank it lol. Glad "The Heart Won't Lie" won this! Now to read your mind to find out the next album... ;)

You brought up something up that I forgot that I don’t care for that is saxophone related with Reba. “You Lie” is my absolute favorite single and overall song of Reba’s and I personally think the saxophone she put in the concerts destroys the song. I understand why she did it. As she aged she can no longer get the high notes in that song so she added the sax in their place. But for me doing so takes away the raw emotion in her voice as in the recording that for me she iconic hitting those notes and raw emotion that’s on the album recording.

So to me, this is Reba's album. It is, imo, easily her best, and honestly, my favourite album of all time. It's the album that made me a Reba fan, a country fan, and even a music fan. It is the first album that I ever owned. I remember as a kid hearing "Why Haven't I Heard From You" come on the radio, and I just had to know what the song was, and who was singing it. I saved up my allowance (lol) and got my parents to take me to the mall so I could buy it (on cassette tape, haha). I'm on my third copy of it (upgraded to CD, then wore that out and had to buy it again). I can't even begin to estimate how many times I've listened to this album.
It was really hard to rank in a sense, and also really easy. Easy because I could do it without listening to it since I know the songs so well (I still listened to it again though, because why not). Hard because nothing deserves to come in below #3, and yet something has to fill positions 4-10.

Despite my lower ranking for “He Wants to Get Married” I do really appreciate the song and I agree that the ending line " But not to me" just hits you in the gut. Given the specific subject matter of the song I just don’t find I come back around to revisit this one as much as some others, so for that reason it ended up falling back a bit on my list. That said, I’m not surprised or even disappointed to see it make the top 5! As was mentioned in the reveals “One Last Good Hand” is the biggest missed hit opportunity off the album and I suspect had they gone four singles deep this would’ve been the one to get released. I also think this will fare quite well in her ‘90s album tracks rankdown (OMG OMG SO EXCITED FOR THIS BTW ), but I suspect it’ll come somewhere in the top 5 as it’ll be competing against some great songs from both the Read My Mind and What If It’s You eras. There really was no question in my mind that the three singles would be the top 3 and I also felt pretty confident in the order in which they would place (of which I correctly predicted ). As a young boy I wasn’t all that into the song “Take It Back” myself, but the video was always fun to watch. As time as gone by I’ve come to enjoy this song now for what it is, but even still it’s never one of her hits that I revisit. When it comes to the top two there really was no competition here as “The Heart Won’t Lie” is just both an epic song and video. I also have to say that Reba set the bar high with this duet in a live concert setting because when I saw her on tour in 1994 she had Vince Gill on a big JumboTron behind her wearing the same Navy officer uniform and singing his part which all but made it seem like he was right there with her for the song...it obviously left an impression on me even at a young age because it's a moment I'll never forget! And as for “It’s Your Call” this is a song that I’ve come to have a much greater appreciation for over the years because again it was one of those that as a young boy I never really connected with. The storyline behind the song and the strongwriting is great and really only something that someone like Reba could pull off and turn into a hit. Now, with that said just like someguy I’ve been anxiously awaiting for us to get to Read My Mind because it’s also not only my favorite album of hers but one of my favorites of all time. I love everything about this album from beginning to end and if there was ever an album I had to give to someone who wasn’t familiar with her, this would be it!

Actually, When Reba introduced the saxophone in her concerts in 1989. I actually prefer three songs on her 1989 Live album where she added the sax to all 3 album versions that did not have the sax. Those being: 1986’s “Let The Music Lift You Up” 1988’s Respect 1988’s Sunday Kind Of Love” It didn’t even dawn on me until now that the saxophone is something that Jimmy Bowen must’ve introduced to George and Reba as both of them shared him as their producer at MCA Records during his tenure there. I don’t think George ever incorporated the instrument into his live shows at the time, but he did use it on his 1989 album Beyond the Blue Neon, 1990’s Livin’ It Up, 1991’s Chill Of an Early Fall, and lastly 1992’s Holding My Own all of which Jimmy produced. So it would make sense then that Reba would use the saxophone in her studio albums with him as well, and she must’ve liked it so much that she continued using it when Tony Brown took over. Love these little tidbits!

#late but yay @ me getting perfect rankings for the entire top 3! The singles landed in 100% the correct order they needed to. All three are incredible, but "The Heart Won't Lie" in particular is other-worldly and one of the best moments of Reba's singles career. Incredible vocal.

I haven't done any reminders for this one yet, but I have an announcement about the deadline! The next week of country rankdown deadlines is absolutely insane, so I have decided to push my George albums back to May 10th... And I am accordingly going to push this one back by a week as well.
Our new deadline is Sunday, May 17th! Hopefully the extra week will help more people participate (although tbh it's not like we're going to need it, based on how quickly people are submitting for this one so far!!)

Holy smokes, it's already time for a 5 day warning!!! We have hit the double digits, thanks to austin, but we're still like 6 to 8 people shy of our average for a Reba album!!
