Despite my misgivings regarding Reba’s Christmas output, both of the final two songs are in my top 3 so I’m happy to see either one win.

"This Christmas" should come out on top

The road was long and winding, But a promise had been made From heaven above. That was enough. This Christmas, let me keep that faith.
2. "This Christmas"
Track 9 Runtime: 3:52 Songwriters: Rick Bowles
Up on the housetop, reindeer pause. Out jumps good old Santa Claus. Down through the chimney with lots of toys, All for the little ones' Christmas joys.
1. "Up On The Housetop"
Track 5 Runtime: 2:08 Songwriters: Benjamin Hanby

This finish was both unexpected yet very expected to me! The unexpected part was seeing "This Christmas" come in comfortably at #2. This one wasn't on my radar at all heading into this rankdown! I figured it might finish around #5-6, but was absolutely shocked to see it get enough support to become the unchallenged #2 contender. That being said, this is one that I have really come to appreciate even more after seeing how much everyone else loved it. It was always just kinda in the middle for me, but now I'm hearing it with new ears and really liking what I hear. It's awesome when a rankdown helps you to see a song in a whole new light The expected part was seeing "Up On The Housetop" come out on top. This version of this song is a JAM!!!! Usually this is one of those Christmas songs that comes across as kinda cheesy, but Reba manages to obliterate the cheese factor and just turn this into a roof-raising barn-stomping anthem. I'm surprised to learn on Wikipedia just now that this has never charted, because I swear this has been the go-to version of this song on all the country radio stations I've ever listened to... Anyway, this arrangement is inventive and creative, and SO much fun. I love this one a lot, and I had hoped it would win! Overall very happy with this outcome.

Thank you to everyone who participated and followed along! Now it's time to start getting excited to dive into her '80s albums in the near future, when the wave of year-end rankdowns subsides and y'all can breathe again ;)

All things considered, this was the perfect top two! While I’ve never really revisited Reba’s holiday material, I’m going to make sure and at least make an attempt to put this playlist on next year. Thanks again bboat11 !

Great rankdown! I've never listened to Reba's Chrismas music, but I'm glad I finally did.
Keep a look out for my cover of "The Christmas Guest" coming out Christmas 2021 😜

"This Christmas" was beautiful. I loved Reba's vocal and to a certain extent, the song for some reason reminded me of 2020 in general. "Up on the Housetop" has been playing constantly during the holidays since I was a kid!! It would've been my #1 if not for "Til the Season Comes Round Again," and my Top 3 are really all equally my #1s tbh. Thanks for hosting bboat11 and I am QUITE excited to get into Reba's 80s albums!

Sorry it has taken so long to get the next phase of this series off the ground! I have spent so much time kicking around ideas for how we should do this... Reba's '80s phase is so unique in that she was allowed WAAAAAAAYYYY more opportunities to flop than you would ever see in the modern country music industry. Also, the early years were largely composed of producers and label executives making creative decisions and telling Reba what to record. The result is the late '70s/early '80s producing a lot of forgotten albums that have very little relevance to what her career ended up being, before she switched labels and gained creative control in the mid-80s, and ultimately started getting huge hits in the second half of the decade. I have been wanting to double up on these albums, so we can get through them quickly, lol. As far as HOW to double them up, I was at a total loss. So I am going to go with the idea that someguy gave me. He suggested that I start at the beginning and the middle, and proceed chronologically from those two points. That way, we will pretty much always have a less-iconic album paired with a more iconic album :) What a great idea! Stay tuned for our first two albums in the next post.....

Reba McEntire (1977)
Tracklist: (Runtime about 32 min)
1. Glad I Waited Just For You 2. One To One 3. Angel In Your Arms 4. I Don't Want To Be A One Night Stand 5. I've Waited All My Life For You 6. I Was Glad To Give My Everything To You 7. Take Your Love Away 8. (There's Nothing Like The Love) Between A Woman And A Man 9. Why Can't He Be You 10. Invitation To The Blues 11. Right Time Of The Night
Reba's 1977 debut album sounds SO different compared to what we're used to, lmao. However, it is actually quite a solid album in my opinion! The debut single, "I Don't Want To Be A One Night Stand" has a delightful increase in tempo from verse to chorus, songs like "Angel In My Arms" and "Right Time Of The Night" have awesome harmonies, and "There's Nothing Like The Love" has one of the catchiest, most singsongy melodies you will ever hear! Hopefully y'all enjoy this, even if it's not what you expect from Reba!
My Kind Of Country (1984)
Tracklist: (Runtime about 29 min)
1. How Blue 2. That's What He Said 3. I Want To Hear It From You 4. It's Not Over (If I'm Not Over You) 5. Somebody Should Leave 6. Everything But My Heart 7. Don't You Believe Him 8. Before I Met You 9. He's Only Everything 10. You've Got Me (Right Where You Want Me) By the time My Kind Of Country came out, Reba was officially in control of the direction of her career. She had recently switched labels from Mercury to MCA. This was her second album with them. It is titled My Kind Of Country because she was finally making the kind of country she wanted to make! And the change was paying off! This album features her third and fourth #1 hits in "How Blue" and "Somebody Should Leave". Due: Wednesday, April 14, 2021

That first image you tried to post says it's not available... Anyways, I'm excited for Reba's next phase! This first pairing is as stark a contrast as you could possibly make--her forgotten debut and her essential breakout! These pairings are going to be fun

I’ll be working on this.
Can’t wait til the very first Reba album I bought comes up in this phase of Mercury albums and in my opinion, is the only Mercury album that doesn’t have 1 flop which I put right next to “Rumor Has It” in comparison.

Lmao I let this one get HELLA buried!!!!! With how much has been going on in the country rankdown world, I haven't been promoting my far-out rankdowns all that heavily since I opened them. I don't want people to feel overwhelmed. However , the deadline for Reba is now down to just four weeks away! I feel it is time to start promoting them more heavily. Once I host Kelsea, Feb. New Releases, Maddie & Tae, and Terri Clark, these two quick albums are next on the agenda, so they're coming up faster than you might think, lol. Here is where things stand so far:
Reba McEntire participants so far: 1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. someguy
My Kind of Country participants so far: 1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. someguy

I am going to go ahead and extend this one through the end of the weekend after it was originally due. Instead of Wednesday the 14th, I will now be closing this on Sunday the 18th. I know that things are crazy right now, but keep in mind that these have been open for quite a bit longer than anything else that's due at the same time....so these should definitely be your priority ;)
Reba McEntire participants so far: 1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. someguy 4. codyj100 5. castleoblivion26
