I can sympathise with Taylor swift on this. I would hate my masters to be sold to someone I didn’t like.
But she chose to leave the record label to find a better situation for herself. She was signed to a record deal where she didn’t own her masters. The record label is a business and is going to sell it at the best price for itself. It’s capitalistic but it’s understandable
Demi Lovato should focus on her health.

Also this might have been explained somewhere but are her masters owned in perpetuity by Big Machine? Or is there some sort of time table where she starts regaining them one album at a time?

Scott's response doesn't really invalidate anything she said. She'd have to be with Big Machine for another 10 years, and I'm assuming she believed she would have been able to make another six albums in that time. I suppose, yes, she is bending the truth by saying she'd have to earn each album one at a time, but ultimately the idea is basically the same: six new albums for the masters to her previous six. I need more context for what she initially wanted; he claims the document was their final offer to her, but what did she/they give up to get to that point? She's also already countered the claims that her father knew so therefore she must have as well, so that's neither here nor there for me. Also, he texted her at 9 on a Saturday night? Homegirl was probably out getting s**t faced or dicked down... it's totally possible she saw the news before she saw the text. Also, isn't her main issue that her catalogue is going to be owned by Scooter, not really when she found out about the news?

I didn't need another reason to hate Demi's junkie ass but she has given me one more. Plenty of reasons to dislike Denim and her attitude but that isn't one of them and illness isnt a joke be it drugs, mental or cancer.

Kinda waiting for the inevitable Demi Lovato meltdown where she shades Taylor again. She recently signed with Scooter. Well... of course she didn't resist the urge to join. Anyways, kinda shady of Borchetta to bring up Parkland and Manchester, trying to deflect some attention into the fact that Taylor declined to perform there. I really want a bigger statement or an interview from Taylor to clear up several facts. Scooter was the organizer for both charity events and he was extending an invite out to her personally yet she declined both times. He’s softening the “bully” picture that she is painting Scooter in right now.

This thread doesn't deserve the multi-angled and layered shade that Scooter just dropped in that post.
Did not know that Don Passman worked for her, I learned something new today.

I don't believe either party is innocent here. I sympathies with Taylor because her music that she wrote got sold off to someone she dislikes, (not just hers but a lot of other artists too I'm assuming).
But it seems like she left Big Machine looking for other and possibly better contracts. So by doing so leaving the masters to her old music behind. I don't believe what Scooter did by buying it was malicious, I think he simply thought it would be a great business move.
If it is true that she declined Manchester we don't know her reasons or if she had other commitments but if she didn't have other commitments thats kinda of bad and if i were Ariana I wouldn't hate Taylor but I would be disappointed that she didn't do it. Though in saying that we don't know if she had commitments prior to the concert in Manchester so this is just speculation. So don't attack me.

Also, isn't her main issue that her catalogue is going to be owned by Scooter, not really when she found out about the news? The more compelling line, to me, is the "TS Proposal: 7 Years." That would suggest that she was willing to sign a long-term deal in exchange for her masters, which would be counter to the spirit of her post. There's a difference between saying "I'll give you $150 million for my masters" "No dice, we'll only give them up if you re-sign" and "I'll give you 7 years of exclusivity for my masters," "No, we actually need you to stay a little longer."The former is a bad faith example of trying to prevent an artist from controlling the direction of their career. The latter is just trying to tip a negotiation a bit further in your favor.

I understand the need to be woke in this current insufferable environment but let's not get it twisted. What a gross outlook to have. Anyway, I definitely feel for Taylor here. Without her, BM would be nowhere near the stature that it is today. I truly believe that Taylor wants to use her clout for other artists, especially when it comes to streaming/royalties/etc., and I admire her for that. With that said, I wish she would have made these claims with more evidence to back up what she’s saying. I think not having your catalogue is a horrible thing, and for someone you dislike so much to now own it has to be devastating. That said, I feel like more blame should he put on Borchetta than Braun. After all, the merger is a new move regardless of how long it’s been in the talks, and if she wants to have any negotiation room with them in the future, this ain’t it. I also can’t really blame Borchetta for using her catalogue as leverage. As I said, without Taylor, their value would be far, far less than it is with her. It’s a business move and a strong force of power, but again, it’s business. I hope to see in the future just how open either parties were during negotiating a new contract as far as T’s ownership of her work, and I hope they can come meet in some happy medium.

Demi's history with drugs has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Drugs is usually a cause of deeper issues . It's a symptom to underlying issues that stem from childhood, pathology, family issues and or mental illness. Or it could be from trying something and then being so addicted which negates that choice you speak off. The same reason you so damn negative and rude and nasty towards others suffering is probably something broken inside you that you haven't healed. Instead of drugs you just choose to be an asshole

Oh, Taylor. I definitely do think we have the case of her playing the victim again. She does it well. Look, I sympathize with her. It must not be easy to have had a potential opportunity to lose your hard work, what you’ve poured your soul and heart into, and go into someone else’s hands. The truth is though, most artists do not have the luxury of truly owning their material — it’s my understanding this is becoming more “common,” now though. I get it would suck for it to go to someone you dislike no less.
But, Taylor knew exactly what she was doing with: 1. Posting this online. This really shouldn’t have been a public issue. 2. Dragging Scooter. It seems like the big issue is with Scott. He had the ability to decide who everything would go to. He had the ability to negotiate with Taylor, etc. 3. TAYLOR decided to walk away. Not every negotiation goes the way one party is comfortable with. She had two options and chose. 4. She brought up irrelevant things in her post (to gain sympathizers). Scooter can not control Kim and Kanye. 5. It’s been rumored Scooter was buying. She MUST HAVE HEARD with how egocentric she is. 6. Scott mentioned there were multiple avenues for her to find out. If she did not, then she really needs to have a talk with her team cause, damn. 7. This was probably my longest post on here. Bye.

I read Scott’s essay trying my best to remain unbiased and I actually noticed some decent parts in there. However, him bringing up Manchester and Parkland did it for me. That was low coming from him and proves he lacks credibility and integrity.

Of course her friends are going to cape for her and vice versa. There is no just reason to post any responses besides those that come directly from Taylor, Scott, and Scooter. Now Todrick better be damn sure Scooter is homophobic because using that loosely will only bite him back as well. And things get messier...

Or she was in London where 9pm in Nashville corresponds to 3am. But then she would have seen the text when she woke up in London, before the story which would have been posted in the afternoon. Yeah, maybe she found out a few hours before others, but that's semantics really.

What. A. Mess. I do feel for her though. Sadly this kind of situation is pretty commonplace for huge acts. Does that make it right - NO. She has brought MILLIONS into Big Machine and I personally think it's low for them to sell her masters to someone without having a discussion with her first. My question is why her father wasn't informed if he's on the label's board?? Something is off here...

From what I read online, her father was not present at the meeting where the sale was discussed, partly because of an NDA due to which he wouldn’t be able to tell Taylor about the sale.
Scott texted her at 9PM EST, which is 3AM in London where she is rumored to be. It’s a fair assumption that she found out about this with the rest of the world, definitely not days earlier.
Either way, the whole argument that she “walked away” from her masters is not valid. The contract that Scott posted would have trapped her for another decade and it doesn’t even guarantee she’d get her masters back by the end of that decade. Moreover, when at one point over 50% of BMR’s profits were because of her, the very least she should be afforded is the courtesy to know who would end up owning her masters.
And to say that Scooter was in her camp is bullsh*t. His Instagram story is clear evidence of that.

I would love for Taylor to get her masters back. Yes it is wrong but Scooter and Borchetta are both at fault on this one. It has been known for sometime that Borchetta was willing to sell Big Machine Records. Since Taylor moved to Republic,They have been trying to make a way to profit from old material,They are selling a rare Taylor Tim McGraw item at the moment. I agree with Taylor that her masters shouldn't be in the wrong hands. Just hope it doesn't end up like when other artists leave labels they have random Greatest Hits album releases out. It wouldn't be right on Taylor's part. I think people are just disappointed with the reaction from Kacey Musgraves and Demi Lovato. Kacey's Husband covered "All Too Well" and she went ahead and liked Scooter Braun's post.I think Taylor will make it out of this okay,She has always recovered from backlash,We are just coming from the "You Need To Calm Down" controversy and now this happened.
