If somebody would've told me about a Jonas Brothers' song being #1 in 2019 I would've laughed in the face. Congrats I guess Or a panic at the disco song hitting #4, or Lady Gaga having another #1. Or Bastille getting a #2 hit. It has been quite the entertaining year.

RIP thank u, next
I remember it being so exciting when Uptown Funk reached 31 weeks in the Top 10 in 2015, now in the past 2.5 years we've had 4 songs reach that point. That Top 10 record is gonna be broken very soon at this point.

Probably
Most long standing records will be broken or have been recently and will again
Largely thanks to streaming

Or Bastille getting a #2 hit. It has been quite the entertaining year. Especially how since last summer, Maroon 5 and Panic! at the Disco spent 30 weeks atop Radio Songs. Only if Marshmello hadn't caught between them that week, they would've had the biggest back-to-back reign on any component chart. Who had seen it coming?

Streaming numbers were so low then. You probably could've charted on Hot 100 with just 5 million streams. I doubt Harlem Shake had below 5 million the previous week. You could've charted on Hot 100 with just a little over 1 million streams in 2013. Harlem Shake's numbers were the weirdest thing on Hot 100 this decade... It's like its streaming number's supposed to be from 2018, but it's hit by a time-traveling warping device beforehand to 2013. It'll be so awesome if a song can pull an era-warping anomaly this year and sell 5 million+ copies and be year-end top 5 by sales number alone. Shallow who? If you don't recall Harlem Shake's streaming numbers during its weeks at #1 in the Hot 100 were mostly due to YT memes being counted in arguably the biggest viral video craze (Gangnam Style arguably could be in the discussion) to date. Had Harlem Shake YT streams been counted using today's rules where they only count one third of what the on-demand streams count (which BTW explains Please Me being below Sucker this week in Streaming Songs in spite of having more streams, given that more than half of the former's streams came from YT video views), it wouldn't have charted as high in the Hot 100.

In my opinion, I would start with the magazine as the source for the "Billboard official chart records" Which is exactly what I’m doing. My point is, neither is necessarily wrong and cases can be made for both points. Obviously Billboard is presenting its information the way it chooses to for whatever its reasoning is. But for someone going week-to-week, it’s not wrong to say that I’m Your Angel made its first chart appearance at #1. Whether Billboard recognizes it as a number one debut is up to them. Personally, I think it’s an unfair manipulation of facts that they choose not to, as if they’re covering up for their own inaccuracy by saying a “test chart” holds more weight than the published chart. That’s the only opinion I have. Everything else is based on my interpretation of facts. At the very least, it’s deserving of an asterisk. Another weird thing about the test chart/published chart debate is: are the Dixie Chicks credited with a Top 40 hit for "Wide Open Spaces"? On the 12/5/98 chart it was #41 on its way down. So I consider that a #41 peak. But the previous weeks showed it in the Top 40. So does that count for their Top 40 total, if "I'm Your Angel" made a 46-1 chart move? A handful of other songs would have different Hot 100 peak positions if we're considering the test chart positions official. Also, if you look at the chart on Billboard's website (https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1998-12-05) it shows all of the airplay tracks, including "I'm Your Angel", as new entries. No test chart info is included online. Is this the official stance now?

And besides would the PC police even allow us to talk about an R. Kelly song anymore? - LOL Yes, being against a serial statutory rapist (among other things) is so PC.

Even Billboard vacilated on the issue of "I'm Your Angel". Chartbeat on 12/5/98 said the song ascended 46 to #1 (with an asterisk), but included it as a debut years later online. The chart manager that week (the Gary Trust of that day) said: "If a single was already on the Hot 100 before the inclusion of airplay-only titles (IYA wasn't), the chart histories for those singles will be linked to their performances on the published charts." So no wonder we all still question it. I think its just simply inconsistency. If it was today, it'd be regarded as a #1 debut. Harlem Shake was regarded as a #1 debut, when it debuted atop Hot 100 due to YouTube being included. However I'm sure on a previous week test chart with YouTube it would've already been charting. Billboard never specified how many streams it had the previous week, however when you consider it was #1 on streams with 103 million and the #2 had only 10 million streams, it more than likely had a good amount the previous week too. Streaming numbers were so low then. You probably could've charted on Hot 100 with just 5 million streams. I doubt Harlem Shake had below 5 million the previous week. But when "HS" went to #1, what did the "previous position" and "weeks on" columns show? That's the real issue.

If yearend placement determines a song’s status, sad for all those songs with split years. Shallow is destined to be one of the classics of the 10s! 😎

^I guess you're right. The point is it wouldn't have been a large a hit as it was then. Plus, who knows how YouTube would have reported its streams had it been released today. YouTube seems to be inconsistent in how it reports those to Nielsen.

I know Celine reissued TAST and all versions of ATW and ML compilations without the track in order to enable "Buy Album" feature. Pretty soon we'll be asking the same question about Michael Jackson....

I only checked Celine's because the ones I mentioned were partial for a couple of weeks until the reissues were released.

I wish Bad Liar and Rule The World goes in the upper half of the Billboard Hot 100. Then Slow Dancing In The Dark and I've Been Waiting debuting in the Hot 100.

Didn’t it have like a 500% lead on the #2 song? Its first 3 weeks probably would have still been at #1 even with today’s streaming rules. Apart from streaming, it also debuted with 262k sales. I think I remember Billboard compiling the streaming songs chart in secret for a few weeks before introducing it, so we could probably look that up somewhere, because I remember them publishing it. www.billboard.com/articles/news/1549388/baauers-harlem-shake-debuts-atop-revamped-hot-100It says the song only debuted on Streaming Songs, so it wasn’t even charting the week before. The article says JT was #19 with only 2 million streams, so it’s possible that Harlem Shake didn’t have enough streams to chart on the H100 yet. Because Streaming Songs wasn't including YouTube until the week Hot 100 did too. I have strong doubts that Harlem Shake would've went from below 1 million streams with YouTube to 103 million streams in a week. The sales jumped 1,359%; applying a similar jump with streaming would've put it around 7 million~ streams with YouTube the week prior. 7 million streams was enough to be top 3 on Streaming Songs back in 2013. So yeah, I think it would've definitely been able to chart on a testing Hot 100 the week prior.

Waiting for chartdata to reveal Sweet But Psycho’s position; I’m hoping it squeezed into that #21 spot since 23, 22, 20, and 19 are all revealed, but more realistically it will probably stay at #24 or even go down slightly.

This is #46 on Spotify, and #25 on Apple Music . It might be the funniest song to chart this decade if it does next week. Also... the incoming drama if Billboard charts this on the Country chart. Debuts #83 on Hot 100 and #19 on Hot Country Songs.
