IMO, the genre charts should be showing us the most popular songs in that particular genre's industry, not which songs in that genre (arbitrarily picked by Billboard) are the most popular. But how would you do this? Radio airplay is the only thing that you could specifically tie to a genre, but with more and more artists succeeding without radio ... I'm not sure that's a useful barometer for the "Hot" charts. I don't know. I didn't claim to know how to make a chart that would reflect such a thing, but I know the way they are currently crafted is nonsense.

Because MTB was a #1 Country AIRPLAY song Meant to Be was on the Country songs chart for about 3 months before it even reached the top 15 of the airplay chart. So no, I don't think that has anything to do with it But then country radio eventually did pick it up

Damn is "Please Me" going to suffer the same fate as "Finesse"? Seemed like everyone was predicting it'd go #1, but it may stall at #3 instead and just fizzle out The only people who predicted that to go #1 are the same people who predict EVERYTHING else to go #1. I thought it would peak at two

The real hook on Old Town Road to me is the "Can't nobody tell me nothin'!"
Combined with the Red Dead Redemption footage and the fact that its such a catchy line, it's just bad ass. Honestly the entire song is cool, I know it's meant to be tongue and cheek but its genuinely a cool ass song. I feel like a cowboy when I listen to the track. I haven't felt that way about a song since Johnny Cash, that's why I feel like the track deserves to be considered country.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie just released a version of "Look Back At It" with Park Woo-jin. Obviously won't impact till next week, but I expect a decent sales boost for that song.

Old Town Road probably will go top 5, but I don't see it going #1 atm. It doesn't have enough radio support at this time. And I may be wrong, but I feel like it needs to be more "big" on streaming platforms, like 3 million days on Spotify instead of just 1-1.5 million days, before we go calling this thing a #1 hit without radio. Yes, number one on on-demand streams, but 7 rings is still the leader overall on streaming, if you include YouTube, Pandora, etc. I am in support for Old Town Road to go #1. But I feel like it will take more before it can actually go #1. I mean it could probably go #5 as soon as next week (4/13). It is a huge hit don't get me wrong, but it needs radio and some more sales and streams. Will see the numbers for it shortly for this week, before we determine if it leaps into the Top 15 or 20 this upcoming week (4/06).

So no, I don't think that has anything to do with it Airplay very much had to do with it. Meant To Be was hot on sales and streaming right out of the gate, and it clearly would have had enough activity to make Hot Country Songs long before it officially "debuted" on the chart. But it didn't get added to the chart until it started to take off at country radio. Note that it debuted at #1 on Hot Country Songs, which tells you all you need to know. It was only added once it was already a legit big deal.

I think that with its length and origin (viral challenge) OTR is definitely a novelty record and it's not expected to do very well on radio. It's like mini-Harlem Shake.

I'd watch out for breakout star, DaBaby. His songs have been rising every week since his album launch a few weeks, Suge is his biggest song so far (#11 on AM). Pretty interesting.

I think Don’t Call Me Up has a sure chance of debuting this week, given its Spotify and radio increases.

Old Town Road #1 on US YouTube with 1.9M! It's not normal to increase by 300k streams on Thursday (it also increased by almost 200k on Spotify), so I'll assume that Billboard controversy is helping the song.

On the Beatles thing , 5 in the top 5 will stand forever as the record, some may tie it but it will never be beaten.
