This is my favorite pop song of 2019. It's that good. I want this to smash so badly.

Praying this will pull a dark horse. Hopefully. But it's been five years since Dark Horse, Katy isn't big enough to get any single flying into the top 25 with ease anymore. Which sucks because 365, the Con Calma remix, Never Really Over and this have all been great, catchy songs.

Apple Music promo is hot, but Spotify... isn't. Eh, I guess AM matters more anyways.

That AM promo photo is HOT! Should have been the single cover.

Does Katy have a personal PR person? Somebody like the ubiquitous Tree Payne who at this point is almost Taylor’s surrogate mother?
Reason I ask is because Katy’s PR game is the weakest among pop girls. Her social media is terrible (shoes, vinegar, etc), and there is literally nothing in terms of positive spin media. No magazines, barely a handful of tv and radio, etc. By comparison Taylor had so much, and it was so obviously paid for promo & reviews that it was getting cringe. But Katy’s almost total wasteland of positive spin is far and away worse. And when there IS an opening it’s all about Orlando, the wedding and her dog, all of which are way over exposed in what little PR views she has.
And when there IS something music related that sneaks in, its usually off center, but not in a good way (an example of this is her answer to KP5, “uh I will do one if there is demand for it” WTF? ) Sure Taylor sticks way to much to the scripted narrative, but Katy needs somebody to prep her and guide her. To say nothing about her management who at one point were listening to HIH and ST and obviously recommended ST.. oh, let’s ad blah-blah to ST .. release HIH on a Wednesday.. lets fumble launch day and have the song crash off all platforms ... let’s promo ST on Ellen once the song is dead ... Katy leaving on vacation on geffens yacht a couple of weeks after the release of NRO, just as it’s taking off . etc, etc, etc ... how does all this happen and her team keep their jobs? And yes I realize she signs off on everything, has final call, but is she getting the right advice?
I read an interesting blind item where apparently she is being courted by Scooter Braun. Say what you want about the guy, but for the most part the ducks are in a row come game time.
Katy’s biggest asset is that the GP like her, and as I type this they don’t know she has a new song out..
If her music was bad I wouldn’t care, but the music is really good (except ST, which Charlie should have deleted from his hard drive) - it’s so frustrating that so few know its out there.
I’m actually more of a Taylor & Ari fan, but now I find myself enjoying following Katy, Miley and Demi way more (guess i’m a sucker for potential come backs)
Frustrating ...

I will admit that Katy’s team has dropped the ball the last few eras and I’m starting to think that Capitol just got lucky with the rollout of the Teenage Dream era. Prism, Witness, and KP5 have all had obvious misfires and wtf moments.
- Pushing Unconditionally when the public obviously wanted Dark Horse - The Birthday music video - Releasing This Is How We Do as a single instead of Walking On Air or Legendary Lovers - Promoting a “purposeful pop” era, only to turn around and release Bon Appétit & Swish Swish - Releasing the Swish Swish music video + VMA performance months after the song had already died off the charts - Not trying to salvage the Witness era with Roulette - Barely any promo for Never Really Over when it was poised as her comeback single - Pushing Small Talk to radio instead of the miles better Harleys In Hawaii
I love Katy but I really think she needs new management or someone who can handle her eras better.

Small Talk aside the quality has been great this year. If she can keep serving quality I won't fault her if she goes the Carly Rae route and stops pushing to radio.
But ST over HIH was a fatal blow to her hype.

I wonder if Katy and Scooter Braun would work well together. Still obsessed with this, especially the last chorus vocals which I can’t get out of my head

Its probably better to avoid Scooter from a PR standpoint

I love this. Thus really should have followed "Never Really Over." The vibe is great, and if it were by someone more hip these days it probably would be a sizeable hit. It's on trend, but still uniquely Katy. But if they go with this as a single now for Katy, it's gonna be a tough road ahead. But then again, anything will be at this point. If this doesn't build back any momentum for her after "Small Talk," nothing will outside of her being on a song with Drake or Billie Eilish or someone else equally as massive.
The early performance isn't bad either, which is a good sign. #12 on iTunes isn't bad for her career position at all. #192 on Apple Music is about what I'd expect from her as well. As long as it manages a top 40 debut on Spotify too, and it actually gets a radio push, I don't think this will be an outright flop. Especially if she promotes it. Hit that talk show circuit, girl! A radio promo tour would be great too, especially with the Jingle Ball coming up. She could absolutely be doing a yin and yang type thing through these next few months by pushing both this and "Cozy Little Christmas."
Hoping this can manage to do something. I'd settle for a top 25 pop peak and a top 40 Hot 100 peak. At least that would mean "Small Talk" didn't entirely ruin her momentum.

I agree, but again she seems to have disappeared at launch time.
Because of her song by song release approach, all her songs are de facto singles, with any misfires (ST) being major threats to momentum gains. Her current model doesn’t have room for album tracks. Because of that you would think that for her it would be game on, go go go for each release, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Where is she?
Where are the planted articles, the interviews, the performances, the advertising, etc that go with a pro launch? Is she back on vacation?
Her strat team are terrible and have been for years, and should be fired with prejudice. BUT her weird release and hide behaviour is the key reason even her recent strong material stalls out. Sometimes it seems her fans/music fans want her success more than her.
While producer collabs are important, I also agree she would need a song with the front loaded appeal brought by a key artist collab. The sad part is that triple-A names may not want to touch her right now. Like it or not, big names are looking at charts and impact on their brand when fielding collab requests, and Katy doesn’t have the strong hand she used to in those areas.
I wonder which AAA artist would want to link up their brand with hers!
AI not withstanding, she seems to be in a bubble with her fiancé, her dog and her shoes. Just going by what I see (or more importantly, don’t see) she gives me the impression of being out of the pop-loop, with very little interaction and flow with her peers (she used to be in the thick of the pop-now).
Anyway, there is time for HIH, both music & vid are good, she’s got shows in December and maybe this weekend the Capitol Records interns who run her release strategies will realize that they just released good material that deserves to be featured. Maybe they can cobble something together for November?
Of course then they gotta find her and get her out there.

This was such an awful rollout.
- It was blocked for purchase from iTunes and blocked for streaming on Apple Music for 10+ hours
- It was released two days ahead of schedule with no prior promotion
- It has no radio support and barely any playlist support
- It is now being blocked randomly in some countries, on YouTube.
What the f**k is happening? Maybe the plan is to promote Cozy Little Christmas in December, release two new songs next year in February and in May, then try again with this in the summer. Maybe a remix would help boost streaming numbers?

This might be her best song yet. The production is good. Lyrical content is debatable but her voice sound good.

It’s too early to be worried. It’s only been out two days. All we can hope is that Capitol & Katy decide to push this after seeing how it’s performing. It took Capitol 3 months to open their eyes to Dark Horse. All hope isn’t lost yet.

Which is exactly what Katy will need with any song.... promo. She’s not getting any out of the gate hits, with any song, so I doubt any of your above mentioned things will hinder her at this moment. Bumpy? Yes. Going to kill the song’s chances? Nah. It would be a shame if this didn’t get a strong push, but as mentioned earlier by some, her label hasn’t indicated this is going to be getting any radio love. Hopefully that changes. I think this would do well.

The team from the Teenage Dream era is different than the team from the PRISM era and so forth.
I don’t think the TD team would’ve skipped WOA and LL.

How could there not be a radio push? Doesn’t make sense. Is it that costly?

How could there not be a radio push? Doesn’t make sense. Is it that costly? That's the thing. It's not very costly, especially for somebody like Katy who earned an estimate of $80+ million last year. At the most it could cost like, $500,000? And even if they service it to radio and have her do a little radio tour to promote, that would cost a maximum of $2,000,000. I guess either her or Capitol don't want this as a single.
