I hope for his sake that this has some decent longevity, for is setting up to be the biggest hit of his career. This being a "There's Nothing Holding me back" redux shouldn't do much damage as long as he doesn't make a habit out of it. Given how this is doing on itunes, i doubt it. He needs a big hit to come back (and not screw more interviews) but i doubt this is the song that puts his career in the right path again. Fortunately for him he is not releasing an album that soon so he has time to another try if this fails

From getting hits and being nominated for grammys duh. Didn't his last era have one underperforming single??? The second was released and flopped yes but it was a slightly botched release. The first single hit num. 6 at Top 40 and was in the top 10 for 9 weeks and it the Top 20 for 18 on top of hitting num.1 at HOT AC. Was he usually a Grammy favorite? What is this downfall people are speaking about??? He's pretty big right now... His latest single is num.15 at iTunes and skyrocketing the airplay charts. Looks to me like he's doing very well.

I was just summarizing his accolades on his past era which are impressive to some degree but impressive nonetheless. I was just being sarcastic. Or maybe I'm not getting it and you're both playing me.

Where's this on Spotify? That way more important than being #12 or #23 on iTunes (less than 5k copies separate #10 from #20 and so on). Radio's clearly on board.
But damn, couldn't they support "Lost in Japan"? His best song, with a well made remix from a hitmaker DJ... mess.

It's currently #16 on the daily chart, but there are eight or nine Tyler the Creator tracks that just pushed it down. If only looking at pop songs this is #3, behind I Don't Care and Bad Guy (or #4, if you prefer to categorize Post Malone/Sunflower as pop). It seems to have stabilized at 1 to 1.1 million streams per day, not much far off from its 1.47 million start - barring an album bomb, 7 million streams is usually enough to land in Spotify's top 10 chart each week. tl;dr this is doing more than fine.

From getting hits and being nominated for grammys duh. From one flopping single after the other and from an album that underperformed big time when it was supposed to be his definitive jump to stardom

Fortunately for him he is not releasing an album that soon so he has time to another try if this fails Screw more interviews? What are you talking about? How many times you can say how upset you are that people think you are gay without start to be irritating? Waking up in cold sweat because someone somewhere thinks you are not heterosexual is a bit too much. Maybe he is eager to people believe he is heterosexual but talking about your relationship with Hailey Baldwin after denying three times to be nothing more than friend make him look like a lier (apart of being totally innapropiate given that she is married now) After talking about you anxiety problems it doesn't seem a good idea to talk about you being eager to experiment with drugs. And more important, saying your biggest fear is waking up and not being famous doesn't make you look like a credible artist. Two interviews and he barely talks about music. And some comments of Alessia Cara about his behaviour on tour made him look like a spoiled diva. That's the kind of things i was talking about. He is very lucky he had a very clean image of a nice guy, but that doesn't last forever

I just read the Rolling Stone interview and found nothing wrong with it. Shawn Mendes sounds insecure in someways and very honest. He never said being gay is bad or that's how he feels? He's a 20 year old boy who is sick of having to defend his sexuality and is now being ripped online? The statement about him waking up one day and not being famous was slightly taken out of context in my opinion. Maybe I missed something in the interview???? If anything I feel more for him than I did before.

This one is really catchy! Iβll defintley be listening to this one throughout the summer. The month of April/May has been good for new music across several genres IMO.

The Rolling stone interview is published, you can read it. And it's not the only interview he said things like that. He's allowed to respond to questions. That's how interviews work.... Of course he is, and i'm allowed of not liking what he says (at all). Not learning a thing of your mistakes (repeating the same thing in The Guardian interview that created controversy in the Rolling Stone interview doesn't seem very inteligent) is never a good thing. Blaming the interviewer (it's true that it seems very clear that the Rolling Stone interviewer doesn't like him at all, but it's pretty obvious that he didn't put anything in his mouth that he didn't said) it doesn't help either. He had a very clean image and that helped to avoid backlash, like when he thought being asked about feminism was a loaded question on a Q&A with fans, but that doesn't last forever. And of course someone should tell him that denying being gay never makes dissapear gay rumours. If he is really straight those rumours will dissapear with time. Bringing the matter again and again only increase the probabilities the create a controversy that won't benefit him at all. He has a team, and they should be smart enough to know that talking about experimenting with drugs doesn't look well when you already talked about your anxiety problems

Let him have his truth and you have yours. The things you are taking issue with (sexuality, drugs, and anxiety), in my opinion, are truly intimate details and it doesnβt seem like there is any real reason for other people to take offense to it.

That and youβre talking like he just blurts this stuff out when itβs highly likely heβs simply responding to what is being asked and is probably trying to set the record straight as best he can. Judging from what Iβve seen, which admittedly isnβt a lot, he does seem to have insecurities and probably isnβt the best at speaking under pressure. I know Iβm sure not so I can empathize with what it must be like for celebrities who are suddenly expected to master interviews overnight and occasionally talk about things that are personal. He could simply say βno commentβ or try to brush it off, but itβs likely he wants to just make it as clear as possible. Unfortunately, he might need more training and practice on how to do that without coming off defensively. Weβre not all confident and weβre not all fantastic with our words on the spot. I donβt think he deserves to have every single thing he says picked apart.

How is Shawn being open and honest in an interview a bad thing? I can guarantee you even Madonna has fears about waking up and not being famous anymore.
