Kind of why I wish they didn't separate the recurrents from the main chart

Country Airplay This Week Last Week Two Weeks Ago Weeks Title, Artist Peak 1 1 2 31 #1 2 wks Here Tonight , Brett Young 1 2 2 1 24 Beautiful Crazy , Luke Combs 1 This second week at #2 for Combs is more impressive than the 7 weeks at #1 considering country songs usually drop like a rock once they start falling. Country radio really loves that song, wow.

Hot 100 Recurrents 22 25 25 29 God's Plan , Drake 5 Who would've known it would stay here for this long after falling so hard before it went recurrent. What?? It doesn't look impressive. Compared to: This Week Last Week Two Weeks Ago Weeks Title, Artist Peak 1 1 1 29 #1 23 wks Perfect , Ed Sheeran 1 2 2 2 61 Believer , Imagine Dragons 1 3 3 3 26 Meant To Be , Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line 1 6 7 8 20 The Middle , Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey 3 11 12 12 47 Thunder , Imagine Dragons 1 14 15 14 37 Havana , Camila Cabello Featuring Young Thug 1 15 17 15 54 Shape Of You , Ed Sheeran 1 18 18 13 21 Psycho , Post Malone Featuring Ty Dolla $ign 4 22 25 25 29 God's Plan , Drake 5 is looking pretty sad Even The Middle has better longevity than God's Plan in Recurrents. God's Plan debuted at #1 and had great longevity in Hot 100's top 10... so yeah, it seemed that its longevity was compromised. But its performance in Recurrents is no prize either... A proper year-end #1 should perform in Recurrents like Shape of You or Believer.

You're nitpicking in a snooty way. Who are you, Gary 2.0? I never once stated that I think he said it's impressive. I was just offering a sentiment. You are contesting things that weren't stated as well. GP in Recurrents clearly didn't perform any better than it did in the second half of its run in Hot 100. That's what I meant. And I don't know why you posted that, you're acting very strange. To me other people are the weird ones.

By no means a record as other songs certainly did better but it lasted 29 weeks so far. Nevertheless, A long time for a song he expected to have bottomed out. No need to pick it apart

Given it's now falling in radio, I think it's safe to say "Close to Me" is not hitting the top 20 on the Hot 100... making it the only top 5 radio hit I can think of that didn't even make the top 20 on the Hot 100. (It also spent at least one week in the top 10 of radio while not even being top 40 on the Hot 100). For all this talk of radio still having too much power, it seems to me it may have the lowest weight it ever has, at least since they started using BDS/Nielsen tracking. Actually, Kid Rock's All Summer Long peaked at #3 on Radio Songs/Hot 100 Airplay, but only reached #23 on the Hot 100, although the track wasn't made available as an individual digital download (this caused a huge resurgence of its parent album, Rock 'n Roll Jesus back into the top 10), and streaming wasn't a significant factor back then. I think anyone who remembers that summer would agree that that song was huge and was one of those cases where it's Hot 100 peak wasn't really indicative of its popularity. I can also think of other individual weeks where songs were in the Top 10 on radio but much lower on the Hot 100, mainly around 2006-2007 when it was common at that time, similar to the 90s, to withhold digital sales of a single until its airplay built up for a while, and digital sales took up a very high proportion of chart points back then. For example, in 2007 the week before Rihanna's Umbrella was released to digital, it was #3 on radio but only #41 on the Hot 100!

Not only that, but two knock-off cash-in cover versions of All Summer Long - which WERE in the iTunes store - hit the top 40 that year, and one of them (by "Hit Masters") actually peaked higher than the original, at #19!

Drake's song also had to compete with two newer #1 hits at the time, much like how Ariana's singles all struggle to stay on the chart post 20 weeks because there's always a new single taking up the spins. Now that all the songs from Scorpion have fallen, one of them needs to pick up the recurrent plays. "In My Feelings" behaved a bit like a meme song after leaving the #1 spot, and "God's Plan" was much more massive than "Nice for What", so it's not weird that radio is still playing it (plus I'm guessing Drake gets more streams than the average artist does for a year old project).

Good call -- I should've added a caveat to indicate songs that were commercially available. In that case, do we have any other examples of top 5 radio hits that missed the Hot 100 top 20 entirely?

Lady Gaga has some crazy longevity in Canada omg
Just Dance: #1 x 5 (21 weeks top 10) Poker Face: #1 x 9 (21 weeks top 10) Lovegame: #2 (20 weeks top 10) - woah (kind of surprised it's only #13 for the 2009 year end) Paparazzi: #3 (14 weeks top 10) Bad Romance: #1 x 5 (19 weeks top 10) Telephone: #3 (13 weeks top 10) Alejandro: #4 (12 weeks top 10) Born This Way: #1 x 7 (15 weeks top 10) Judas: #8 (2 weeks top 10) The Edge of Glory: #3 (14 weeks top 10) You and I: #10 (2 weeks top 10) Applause: #4 (9 weeks top 10) Do What U Want: #3 (9 weeks top 10) Shallow: #1 x 1 (27 weeks top 10)
As big as Gaga was in the US, her power in Canada is insane! The only single that did better in the US was "Applause"

Except didn't he learn how to play guitar, piano and to sing for the movie? I'm not saying I think he will. I'm saying I think it's foolish to say definitively that he won't just because. Great point—my counterpoint is he's been open in interviews about being extremely uncomfortable and insecure as a musician. I'm thinking he could push through it when there was a chance it'd get him an Oscar, but that it's not worth it for him otherwise.

Wow! Great memory! Thanks, although I did have to look them up just to be sure! Actually, another one I just remembered that was commercially available on all metrics was Charlie Puth's How Long. #5 Airplay peak, only #21 Hot 100 Peak!

Is it just me or has this year generally been uneventful in music? There aren't that many hits climbing up the charts. However, it's been eventful with the fact that we've had 6 songs reach number one in 4 months from artists people would never expect. I actually wasn't talking about hits or the charts at all. I mean, in general music output. The biggest, most recognizable names haven't dropped singles/albums yet and the few ones that have haven't seemed to hold the GP's interest for long. I've felt that way and I've been seeing lots and lots of other people echo the same sentiments - that this year has been kinda slow in terms of new great music.

I really hope Big Ole Freak becomes a runaway hit for Megan.

I agree with the sentiment since at this time last year, Drake, Post and Cardi were all dropping albums or singles. It feels like Ariana is the only established high charting act to have released a project or singles since the fall. Maybe the reason Taylor is dropping an single in the spring than fall is because it will be a loaded second half of 2019. Adele, Rihanna, Drake maybe even Bieber, Post or The Weeknd will drop something. It's also been 2 or more years since Ed, Bruno, Maroon 5 and Kendrick dropped a project so only time will tell.

The second half of the year will definitely be frontloaded. I just hope the music is really good. I haven't really connected with the stuff that has dropped so far this year.
