Just left the theaters and I am so proud of Fantasia!!
The movie is emotional and heavy, but well acted and directed. Some of the best casting I've seen for a film in a while.
I hope she is awarded this season, because she is worthy.

It’s a shame the film failed. At least the Critics and (small amount of) fans liked it. Jennifer Hudson remains the only idol alumni to really break through into movies

Only just managed to catch The Color Purple (I've been traveling)...it was excellent and she was excellent in it. A shame promo got bogged down with gossip, and the studio wrapped up promo for the holidays and never picked it back up. Danielle was v deserving of her nom, Fantasia got close, it was a competitive year. Wish they hadn't buried the fact it was a musical. Onwards and upwards - this second wind for her career is wonderful to see.
To see her hobnobbing with Dicaprio, round-tabling with Hollywood legends, and then Tina Knowles, Lenny, Gaga, etc. gassing her up and Oprah's unwavering support fills me with hope she'll be able to take this momentum and run. BAFTA, NAACP, Golden Globes nods, as well as a great team (stylist, new management) suggest she will. Not to mention that killer Grammy performance.
My hope is she'll book the next high profile movie, sign a new deal, and use her new assets and leverage to make a killer new album (H.E.R, Jazmine, SZA etc. would all be great collaborators and sonic soundscapes - loved the Tina tribute like I say, but don't ever need to hear the words 'rock soul' again, lol).

As someone who has experienced her live, she was definitely holding back a bit but I loved her Grammy performance and the fact that she got to remind her peers who the hell she is. I NEED her next album to be a tour de force.
