I love how “The Git Up” is top 10 on iTunes right now and has been high for a couple days now. Imagine if that got big. It actually entered Hot Country Songs at #38 (the chart that combines airplay/sales/streams).

Another way Old Town Road can be over taken is by another unknown artist releases a song that builds up swell to become a number one hit. Honestly I'd bet on Truth Hurts by Lizzo to be that song. She's a relatively unknown artist and Truth Hurts is solidly in the Top 10 on US Spotify and iTunes the last time I checked, as well as having massive gains on Urban and Pop Radio. It has a great chance for sure.

It actually entered Hot Country Songs at #38 (the chart that combines airplay/sales/streams). Given that it's actually a country song with some urban influences instead of the other way around like "Old Town Road," I think the Hot Country Songs placement is justified. Also, yeah, that song is totally blowing up. TikTok is full of memes using it. Now, I doubt it will be anywhere near as big as "Old Town Road" simply because the novelty of the urban/country mix will have worn off considerably with OTR, but it even if it were half as big as OTR, it'd still be a #1 contender. (Also, I think I kind of like it?)

^People have said that for Old Town Road it is normal to lose streams from Sunday to Monday. It isn't clear why it happens for it in particular.

Can Sunflower beat, or at least tie, the most number of weeks in the top 10 record? The longevity has been amazing

^People have said that for Old Town Road it is normal to lose streams from Sunday to Monday. It isn't clear why it happens for it in particular. Something similar to this happened to In My Feelings when it started declining. I remember In My Feelings reaching a really high peak on both Spotify US and Global. I think it peaked at almost 5 million streams per day on Spotify US and almost 10 million streams a day on Spotify Global. When it started declining, I remember that there'd be a day or two, usually days when songs on Spotify would gain streams, but In My Feelings would be the only song in the top 10 that wouldn't gain any streams on those days. Instead, it'd decline. That kept happening till it eventually left the #1 position. The other thing Old Town Road has going for it is that it's still pulling a lot of streams from YouTube. I don't think it ever reached a high peak on Spotify. I think it's decline will be much slower than In My Feelings' decline, but I could be wrong.

Rihanna will SWOOP in at the end of the month and serve us 'Rude Boy 2.0' which would be an AUTOMATIC smash-hit.
*Bows Down*
Wishful thinking but I think she'll release her lead late-June/early July.

Thotiana is another song that always lose streams on Mondays. Despacito and UpTown Funk! usually gained sales on Saturdays and lost on Mondays. I guess it's because these songs have such a party, weekend vybe. OTR peaked with 5.2M combined on U.S. Spotify, the second most streams in a day (Nonstop - 5.7M) and 35M+ weekly which is by far the biggest week on U.S. Spotify history.

The version that's been #1 for 10 weeks is the remix, but don't points from the original song also count towards that? It had to be combined with it's original version to put up those Spotify numbers you mentioned, but the lone remix version didn't do anything close to that. What are the peak numbers ONLY the remix reached? Right now, it's barely putting up 1.5 million daily streams on Spotify US. I don't know, I don't feel good about songs that ride the charts with multiple versions. I felt the same way about Ed Sheeran's Perfect. He released like 3-4 versions and the points from each version counted towards one song. Can't compare songs like that with other songs that have just one version. I remember when the Weeknd extended his stay at #1 by releasing remixes to I Can't Feel My Face with Eminem and another with Nicki Minaj. Things like that just come across at tacky to me, even though it's stuff that's always been done, lol.

Tbf with Perfect, that just bolstered his lead and got him one more week at 1 max. It was top 3 before the remix and was gonna go number one in the coming weeks

It was top 3 before the remix and was gonna go number one in the coming weeks I'm not sure, but we already discussed this in 2017. ...and I agree with thegreatdivine that it's unfair to have multiple versions, but we don't know what would've happened with OTR on U.S. Spotify if the remix wasn't released because it had just reached #1 on the Hot 100 and was gaining 50%+ points every week. Maybe it would've peaked with 3M-4M streams, but most likely not close to 5.2M.

Nearly every song has remixes of some sort. Not to mention clean edits, radio edits, video edits, live versions, extended versions, etc.
Billboard long ago clarified that if a remix was so drastically different that it seemed like a different song, it would chart separately (thanks to J.Lo).
I find complaining about this odd. Most people aren’t going to listen to every version as if they are separate songs. And it’s not like every time someone wants to hear OTR, they play both versions.
And besides, if you wanted OTR separated you’d probably have had it be #1 AND #2 for most of its reign, and I’m sure people would be complaining a lot more about that.

I'm like 90% sure Taylor's second single is coming on Friday along with the album pre-order. I think there's potentially a collaboration with Katy based on Katy's IG last night, eating cookies at Taylor's NYC apartment, captioning the complete opposite of Bad Blood and Taylor commenting 13 hearts. It's too much of a coincidence to not mean anything right?
