This is like what "ME!" wanted to be but failed miserably. I love it and I'm only 2 listens in!!

I like it and agree the production is killer, but it feels like an album track not a single.

Dead @ her spelling “glad” as “GLAAD” in the lyric video.
This is a step up from “ME!” melodically and production-wise, but these lyrics are just not up to the quality of her work from the first half of the decade. “Why be mad when you could be glad”....REALLY? And I definitely don’t think we need any more material (even just one verse’s worth) about her haters.

The production on this... the songwriting... the brilliance.
SHADE NEVER MADE ANYBODY LESS GAY.

This is pretty much calling out all the protesters against gay and women's rights. And Twitter haters. Damn spilling that tea Taylor. It's like a whole new version of "Mean"!

The production, lol, she wants to be a cheaper CRJ so bad. I'm not sure what it's about but omg those punchlines seems so forced. Like what?
That being said it's better on first listen than ME! I think the later is catchier but this one is a lot more interesting.

Production reminds me of “Heartbeats” by the Knife. I don’t dislike it!
But why is she so bothered by Kimye’s snake emojis still? All these singles about shaking off haters are just a bit redundant. Maybe Taylor needs to calm down too?

You need to calm down. It applies to people here too apparently :). This is so good.

This song is SO good! The way the chorus kicks in and the way that gay pride and women's rights are brought up in the second verse !!!

I really like the production and this is better than ME! But this sounds like a leftover from the reputation era with edgier lyrics.
But I was really side-eyeing that line “shade never made anyone less gay”
This might grow on me over time but I’m not too impressed with the outputs this era.

Whoever mentioned This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things as a reference was probably more on than they realized. Did she really say "..and shade never made anybody less gay??" The production on this is ace, though and some of her cadence is interesting. This is kinda polarizing. To me, even more so than LWYMMD. I feel people will either love it or have it. I'm glad she hasn't completely abandoned Snake Taylor though. I be knowin! 🙋♂️🙋♂️ Her songwriting is underwhelming me this era to put it nicely. Although I did enjoy the can you not step on my gown? lyric. Word to Aretha!

The gay line really shocked the hell out of me lol but I guess it's like a "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" type thing? The ooooh's are so infectious, I'm entranced during them!

First listen thoughts:
1. The 7am line shocked me cause its 07:44 where I live lol 2. I like the sound, it sounds different than her earlier pop songs (ME! sounded so familiar) 3. The lyrics sound weird coming from her, I know I’m gonna have this on repeat forever more but it’s like a dad bringing snacks to a party & trying to showcase all the teen slang he’s learned. 4. Verdict: I’m gonna take a few more listens cause I’m torn. Definitely not the smash I was hoping for.
Edit: That post above me reminds me: it’s very memorable. I’ve only listened to it once and I remember the bassline, the beat & the chorus.

I don't mind this, it's catchy, but I definitely preferred her lyrically before. It sounds a bit immature. I think this is the first time she's mentioned gay since "Picture to Burn", where she says "go tell your friends that I'm obsessive and, crazy, that's fine, I'll tell them you're gay!".
I can see this growing on me, but it isn't "Blank Space", or "Teardrops On My Guitar" when it comes to second singles.

This is better than “ME!” but still not it. It’s bland and forced; the beat is the best part of the song though.
I just hate the disingenuousness of both songs she’s released so far.

I don’t know how I feel about this. It’s better than ME! at least. I like the music. Nice layering on the uh-ohs. I like the idea of the lyrics. But the actual execution... seems somehow not up to her usual? I don’t know why. Maybe a bit clunky in spots, like too many words forced in sometimes, and some of the rhymes are trite.. but maybe it will grow on me more with a few listens. I do like the overall feel of it though.
Something about the way she’s approaching this self empowerment kick on both songs seems off. It’s weird because it feels like this theme should be a slam dunk for her.

Ehh another miss for me its vocally similar to ME the way she sings some parts. hopefully max martin has something on the album. New songs just dont hit hard like her past singles.

I think it is all around pretty awesome. An lgbtq/empowerment anthem released during pride month at that. I love what she is repping/doing with this. The lyrics have their clever moments and are what would be expected for a fun, breezy bop like this. Very summer and also VERY quotable (which is a huge bonus in the viral/meme age).
