I've got to leave soon to watch our school play, but I figured I might as well try to get us to the top 5 before I do!!!
We've got barefoot ladies And tricked out Mercedes', People getting crazy on the boulevard. We've got classic colas and ice cold Coronas, And big cool parties in the back yard.

"Sunshine And Summertime" brings us the first single loss of this rankdown! This song is a lightweight ditty with very little lyrical substance, but tbh I think it perfectly embodies the joyful energy of summer. It is nice having a song with this level of positive infectious energy on an album that draws a lot of strength from its stirring ballads. It has its haters; Kanenrá:ke in particular put it in last place! However, about half the participants put this in the top half of their list, which helped this one to fare pretty well. It was a frequent top 5 contender in the middle of the submissions, before some of the lower-middle ranks helped pull it back a bit to settle in at #7.

Missing out on the top 5 by a mere 3 points, we say goodbye to the penultimate album track. "Dearly Beloved" is such a bad-ass, in-your-face traditional country song! Such a song was quite a surprise from Faith after how far in the pop direction her career went with the Breathe album followed by Cry, with "There You'll Be" and "Where Are You Christmas" in the meantime making it seem like she might have what it takes to be a Celine-level genreless soundtrack sensation diva. But then BOOM, the Fireflies album saw a complete 180 with her musical direction, with "Dearly Beloved" being the most blatant example.
This song's strong point is its lyrics. It is witty and sharp, and Faith's delivery is quite fun and surprisingly well-suited for a song of this style. However, as time has gone on, the production and arrangement have started to wear on me a bit. So as much as this song slays, and as noteworthy as it is on this album, that is why it only went as high as #11 on my list. It's one of those songs I am kinda getting tired of, although I definitely still see why it is pretty well-loved.

I Ain’t Gonna Take It Anymore Like We Never Loved At All Mississippi Girl Stealing Kisses The Lucky One Since my #1 is out (how it bowed out before songs like Dearly Beloved and the title track baffles me) I'll take any of these tbh. They're all so good!

I can see why there may be those that love “Paris” because this really is a standout vocally on the album. That said, this just isn’t the type of song that leaves me wanting to go back and listen to much so for that reason alone it fell back near the bottom of my list. I thought that the title track “Fireflies” would’ve actually gotten a bit further than it did and it’s a bit disappointing as well because listening to this song really takes me back to growing up back home in Nebraska. Such a cute little song It’s always somewhat surprising to see a single leave the rankdown before the top 5, but in the case of “Sunshine and Summertime” it seems appropriate that it does. It’s an easy breezy song that for the most part I enjoy, that is up until the And everybody's got it goin' on, They're showing what they got part of which I simply can’t stand how its sung. I just can’t get past it lol and for that reason alone it fell just shy of my top 5. Pleasantly surprised to see “Dearly Beloved” do so well because it was the one song that I felt like I had under ranked and it was an early favorite of mine. The top 5 looks to be exactly as most of had predicted it might be so while there aren’t any surprises in the mix I still feel quite uncertain about how it’s going to unfold especially given the random top 3 finish to George’s The Road Less Traveled album.

I'm surprised at these results so far. I didn't think the singles would prevail so strongly with this album.
But for me, this album is so good that my #14 could be a #1 on a different album from someone else. Fireflies is such a strong album that there isn't a weak link on it.

"The Lucky One" kicks off the top 5, as the second single to leave us from this album. This song, similar to "Sunshine And Summertime" just has such an infectious, positive energy to it!! I have always had fluctuating feelings on this song, but apparently it really spoke to me when I made my list, because I ended up ranking it at #2... Lol
I'm not surprised this is one of the first singles to leave, but I am thrilled it managed to make the top 5! I thought this was one that might get tanked early on in the top 10!

You've worn the soles off both your shoes Walkin' on me like you do. This ain't what forever's for, And I ain't gonna take it, I ain't gonna take it anymore.
I've cried and begged and cursed and prayed, But nothing's worked and nothing's changed. No way I win when you keep score, And I ain't gonna take it, I ain't gonna take it anymore.

"I Ain't Gonna Take It Anymore" bows out at #4 , as the highest-placing album track on this album. In the meantime, both myself and Kanenrá:ke say goodbye to our #1. I was NOT expecting this song to get as much hate as it did!! :'( In addition to last place ranks from austin and someguy, this song had three other bottom 4 ranks... However, other than those people, literally everybody else put this in their top half The low ranks were enough to make this the 3rd-most polarizing song on this album. I seriously do not understand how anybody could dislike this song. It is literally a perfect song to me! The lyrics are perfect. The melody is perfect. The instrumental arrangement is perfect (I love all that baritone guitar and bass piano helping beef up the chords). One of my favorite things about this song, however, is how perfectly crisp and tight all of the harmonies throughout the chorus are

It may be a bit of a surprise to some of you that one of the biggest hits on the album, "Like We Never Loved At All", bows out at #3 and misses out on the top 2! This duet between Tim and Faith was a huge hit, peaking at #5 on country radio, and has definitely gone on to be a defining moment from this album. Oddly enough, I always forget this song was from this album... I don't know why, because it wouldn't make sense for it to be a part of any other album But for some reason every time I listen to this album I am shocked when this song starts playing! This song was overplayed as hell, but I am coming back around to it. I especially love how crisp Tim/Faith's harmonies are, especially on that big sustained finale note of the entire song. This is definitely one of their best duets!

Happy to see Mississippi Girl take the win (still bitter about my #1 tho ) over Stealing Kisses, as I thought MG was more exciting production-wise than SK. I know I ranked them both low but I still like these songs, as well as this entire incredible album (with the exception of like one or two songs) Can we talk about the UPSET Mississippi Girl victory tho? WOW!

So, I am sure that literally nobody is surprised by this outcome... But you may be surprised to know that "Mississippi Girl" was NOT a contender to win this thing... In fact, "Stealing Kisses" was the runaway winner for literally the entire submission process. When I say runaway winner, I mean it was seriously running away with it. Like, there were times where it was a full 20-30 points ahead of "Mississippi Girl"! Unfortunately, SK choked at the end. The 1-2-3- punch of Cody Wants Out..., castleoblivion26, and Lukas's rankings right at the end of the submissions effectively sealed SK's fate. Cody and Castle ate up the buffer between the two songs, and then Lukas' last-place rank at the very end when he could have saved the song just added insult to injury... So, we same SO close to a surprise winner! Sorry I couldn't make that happen for y'all

Sad to see “Stealing Kisses” fall short. It’s the obvious standout on a stellar album for me.

Yay @ my #1 winning! "Mississippi Girl" is such a freaking JAM. I get so hype every time I hear that guitar riff kick in and I hear Faith's little "yeah." That iconic note she hits around the 3:25 mark in the song in the outro is one of my favorite vocal moments of her career. I so look forward to that part every time I hear the song. Everything about that song and the lyrical nature of it and the timing of its release was such a perfect "moment" for Faith. Iconic. I'm pretty surprised to see that it only narrowly clinched the victory at the very end over "Stealing Kisses," which is also an incredible song and easily the 2nd best single on the album imo. I'm quite pleased with these top 5 results, and happy to see "I Ain't Gonna..." come out as the #1 album track because it is the best of the non-singles, without a doubt. This was a fun rankdown, Boaty.

I can't hear anything special in Mississippi Girl. Didn't like it when it was out, and don't really like it now. But it seems that once again I am in the wrong side of popular opinion :/
