The sky is the limit as far as top 10 hits are concerned. The record I think will be a bit harder for him to break, if only based on the fact that he doesn't always time his singles right (in terms of release) is the record for the most #1 hits.

If he remains active throughout this decade, I can see him reaching 100 top 10 hits. He'll eventually own the record for most top 5 hits as well. I do, however, wonder how many more #1 hits he'll be able to score before the end of his career.

It's a stretch but it isn't impossible, lol. As we've seen with a lot of rappers, age doesn't matter. Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye West are just some of the examples of rappers who have seen continued success well into their 40's. I have no reason to believe Drake's case would be different if he keeps dropping music consistently till the end of the decade (he'll be 43 in 2029).

Let me break down two stats, based on the pre-streaming era and the streaming era. I'll be using 2015 as the start of the streaming era.

Drake on the Billboard 200 pre-streaming era (2009-2014):
3 #1's, 4 top 10's.

Drake on the Billboard 200 in the streaming era (2015-2020):
6 #1's, 8 top 10's.

Drake on the Billboard Hot 100 pre-streaming era (2009-2014):
1 #1, 13 top 10's.

Drake on the Billboard Hot 100 in the streaming era (2015-2020):
6 #1's, 28 top 10's.

It's important to note that 2020 isn't over yet and that if he indeed drops an album this year, he probably has another #1 album, along with a couple more top 10 hits in store.

The only reason why I said what I said is because as successful as Drake was for the first half of the last decade, it pales in comparison to how successful he was in the latter half of it, partly due to streaming and partly due to how much bigger of an artist he became.

A lot of that momentum is being carried into this new decade and while I can definitely see his momentum decreasing as the move further and further into the decade, I don't think that will inform how much music Drake continues to release (if his intention for this decade is to maintain a steady stream of music releases) and I can't see a bunch of that much not having some level of success on the charts.

100 top 10 hits is most definitely a reach.... he's 33, turning 34 years old in less than 2 months. He just hit 40 top 10s... he's not going to do another 60 lol. The thought of it is nice but let's be real.

50 top 10s would be insane enough anyways.

As far as another artist passing Madonna, Rihanna/Taylor seem likely if they release a few more hot albums this decade. I don't foresee anyone else past 20 top 10s so far doing it though at the moment.

All the greats before Drake came along saw a drastic reduction In top 10 hits as they get older. And into a second decade of hits. Be it age or over saturation they all had an ending at some point.

I am sure Drake will break that record too and have more top 10s than ever before and become the first artist ever to become more popular with age.

We will see as the decade plays out

I've already said that I can see his momentum reducing as we progress into this decade so I'm not saying he will be averaging 20 top 10 hits per year. I'm just saying he is far from done, specifically when it comes to scoring top 10 hits.

I just threw 100 out there because it's a nice, round number, but I don't understand anyone who thinks Drake's career will come to a grinding halt anytime soon (not saying you insinuated that). That isn't happening.

Also, as for his age, 33 years old isn't OLD, especially with him being a male rapper. We're in a different time. No career is the same, but Eminem and Kanye West are well into their 40's and they're still scoring #1 albums and top 10 hits with every release. Jay Z saw the most success of his career in his 30's and even well into his 40's.

I had this discussion with someone else and they told me they couldn't see Drake reaching 60 top 10 hits (admittedly, this was a year ago) and I was very confused by that. He has already confirmed that he won't be retiring by 35 and he pretty much said he wants to try his hand at another 10-year run.

I know this is getting long, but I've just learned to never underestimate what that man can achieve, chart-wise. I still remember how amazed I was when he reached 70 Hot 100 entries back in 2014 and how surpassing Lil Wayne's tally seemed impossible, talk less of Glee's record. I felt the same way about Madonna's top 10 record as well. I would have laughed at anyone who told me that from 2016-2020, he would have scored 6 #1 hits, after going 5 years without a #1 hit as a lead artist at that point. 100 top 10 hits seems ridiculous even to me, but if there's anyone who I could imagine even coming close to reaching that mark, it's Drake.

I am commenting on this because even though you openly believe 100 top 10s is a bit of a reach you are defending the possibility with all sorts of statistics to support your position.


100+ top 10s means 60 more. Put it another way, accelerating an already record run, with adding more top 10s in the next ten years than he has accumulated to date.

41 top 10 hits in 11 years out of 225 chart songs. So only 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 hit the top 10. 60 more top 10s means at least 300 more songs.



I believe the 300 is possible if he continues to mass produce songs as he has.

However, Fewer and fewer will hit the top 10. As with every artist there is a peak in popularity.  The peak has already happened (see 2018) --- he is still hitting the top 10 now but the songs are not staying as long.

Yes 33 is not that old but he has already been charting 11 years. Eventually he will become the artist mom and dad listened to. Meaning more people will be leaving his fanbase than entering it - which means eventually lower streaming numbers and thus fewer top 10s.

So I would say that accelerating an already record run that you are defending as possible - is not.

Gary okay, so that the 100 figure isn't so fixated upon, what I really wanted to say by mentioning that he would be able to have that many top 10 hits by the end of this decade was that he would score way more top 10 hits this decade than he did in the last.

His top 10 hits in the last 3 decades:
2000's decade (2009) - 2
2010's decade - 33
2020's decade (so far) - 6

The reason why I separated his pre-streaming and streaming era achievements on the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 was to highlight how much quicker he was achieving certain chart milestones in the streaming era than before it and to also highlight that he's ramped up his output rate in the streaming era than before it.

I think he'll have at least 10 top 10 hits by the end of this year (if he drops his album this year). 10 top 10 hits in a single year will be exactly the number of top 10 hits he scored from 2009-2012. I predict that he'll surpass the 33 top 10 hits he scored in the last decade by 2024, all depending on how much music he drops between now and then.

I agree that 2018 might have been his peak year commercially, but as for your point about his top 10 hits not lasting as long anymore, it's important to remember that out of the 13 top 10 hits he scored in 2018, 7 of them only spent 1 week in the top 10. Going Bad spent 2 weeks. He's scored 6 top 10 hits this year and 2 of them have spent at least 10 weeks in the top 10. I imagine that Laugh Now Cry Later might spend as much time in the top 10 as well. Also, most top 10 hits released this year haven't lasted long in the top 10 so I wouldn't use that as a way to say he's declined in popularity. I do however agree with your points on the other things you mentioned.

I think Posty wins the Artist of the Decade award this decade, though. While Drake scores more hits, Posty's songs/albums have better longevity in the top 10/20. I think that'll give him the edge. I mean, Circles alone spent more weeks in the top 10 than 23 of Drake's top 10 singles that spent the least amount of time in the top 10. That's crazy, lol.

The featured billings do help to some extent. As far who is next? I’d say Taylor could equal Madonna by the time her career has settled. We’re also talking about artists heading towards their 40’s. This is usually where the steep decline happens.

I’m still waiting for Rihanna... and I have faith that she’ll do well. If anyone has impacted pop music in the last 15 years, I’d certainly would list her near the top. Love Taylor but Rihanna (and more importantly, Beyoncé) altered the sound of the era.
