This was released in 1994. It was her debut single and is her most well known release. It was an underground club hit primarily on the West coast of the U.S., especially in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. It peaked at #66 on the Hot 100.
This song is actually based on the remix instrumental and vocals by a singer named Marlo Moore on a song "Highschool Sweetheart" by Ray Quick which was released in 1993 on the same label that this song eventually came out on. The vocals were slightly edited. Miranda's only actual vocals on the song are the "Ooh, I love the way you love me". She did sing on all of the releases after this. According to the original vocalist, there was a court case over this whole unauthorized use business.
A low budget music video was produced featuring some footage from a live performance and other footage in a studio. The male dancer with the shaved head and leather vest still works as a dancer and looks almost the same. Miranda released a handful of singles into the late 90s but none had the success that this had. She still sings and performs but does mostly Celtic and Irish oriented music now and musical theater.
I still love this. KMEL and Hot 97.7 in San Francisco used to play this a lot when this was new. I had a radio recording of it from the radio but I didn't know who it was by because they never mentioned the artist so it wasn't until the mid 2000s when Energy 92.7 began playing this as one of their 'oldies' and I recognized it and was overjoyed at finally IDing this. I only recently found out about the 'scandal' of the main song being taken from another song from the same label. I found that info in one of the YouTube videos for this song.
