Technically Drake has three 10+ week #1 songs, but two were only 10 and one was 11. It is a shame if Boyz II Men aren’t getting the recognition they deserve though!

Boyz II Men had some of the best harmonies I've ever heard... incredibly talented group. I love them!

The CMA rule only impacts the sales chart, not the Hot 100, so it probably just lost its hype despite the album's release.

Is that how "Complete My Album's always worked? I do recall that sales linked to album pre-orders - instant grats - stopped counting toward the Hot 100/sales in late 2014- and if that's the case, would "Complete My Album" affect either the Digital Songs or Hot 100 charts?

Off topic, but curious: How did Mariah or Janet place in the top albums of the decade for the 90s, but not someone like Celine who had two albums that sold over 10 million respectively during the decade? Is this list incorporating single success or something? Did Mariah even have one album that surpassed 10 million copies in actual physical sales (not certification)? Is the list available? So many questions. lol

Speaking of Boyz II Men, I feel like them losing the record is a bigger travesty than Mariah if anything. Only because they had a single with the most weeks #1, second most weeks #1, AND third most weeks #1.


No other artist will probably be ever to claim that again. I think that is probably the most overlooked Hot 100 achievement ever.

Agreed. It’s very strange that Boyz II Men are hardly ever mentioned in chart feats.

Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' Breaks Record for Longest Stay Atop Streaming Songs Chart

The record-breaking week comes at the same time as the song’s historic 17th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, doesn’t just break the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the Aug. 3-dated chart (17!); it’s also the longest leader of all time on the Streaming Songs chart.

“Old Town Road” nabs a 17th week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs tally dated Aug. 3, accruing 72.5 million streams in the July 19-25 tracking week, according to Nielsen Music.

With 17 weeks atop the ranking -- all consecutive -- “Old Town Road” unseats “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber, and takes sole possession of the distinction of the longest leader in the history of Streaming Songs, which began in 2013.

“Despacito” ruled Streaming Songs for 16 weeks, beginning on the May 27, 2017-dated list, also all consecutive.

Lil Nas X has since managed two more Streaming Songs titles: “Panini” (No. 5, July 6) and “Rodeo” (No. 13, July 6). Those songs sit at Nos. 13 and 46, respectively, on the Aug. 3-dated list.

Boyz II Men hold the distinction of having the biggest Hot 100 #1 song three different times, with "End Of The Road" in 1992, "I'll Make Love To You" in 1994 (which spent more weeks in the top ten than "I Will Always Love You" and thus took back the crown from Whitney), and of course "One Sweet Day" in 1995-96. I can't imagine any other act ever having the longest running #1 Hot 100 song three different times with three different songs. LEGENDS.

The beauty is that song is officially going to oblivion now. Mariah will still have the 2 biggest songs on Billboard in 2 decades and so OSD will continue to live on as it has for 23 years and counting and when people say desperados songs the reaction will be

What's even crazier is that it's doing this with YouTube streams being worth less points than on-demand streams.

The former Hot 100 record holder gives advice to Lil Nas X after "Old Town Road" beats out "One Sweet Day."

Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman wants Lil Nas X to know he’s rooting for him.

This week, Lil Nas’ “Old Town Road” topped Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey’s 1995 ballad “One Sweet Day” as the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history. The legendary R&B group held or tied for the record three different times, with “End of the Road” at 13 weeks in 1992, “I’ll Make Love to You” at 14 weeks in 1994, and, of course, with “One Sweet Day,” which boasted the record of 16 weeks atop the Hot 100 for over two decades.

And after seeing some close calls, and having Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Justin Bieber-featuring “Despacito” remix match the record when it also reigned for 16 weeks in 2017, Stockman isn’t surprised that Lil Nas’ breakout hit was able to finally beat out “One Sweet Day.”

“It makes sense that ‘Old Town Road’ did what it did,” Stockman says. “It’s the biggest song of the year... I congratulate Lil Nas X. Dude, congrats."

Now that it's achieved Hot 100 immortality, Stockman wonders if the song will fare better at the Grammys than his 16-week No. 1 did. He recalls Boyz II Men and Carey’s “One Sweet Day,” being shut out at the 1996 Grammys, losing both nominations for record of the year and best pop collaboration with vocals, despite being the longest-running chart-topper of its era.

“What I’ve noticed is that -- as great as ["Old Town Road"] is -- most of the time records that reach that level of success, with the exception of maybe ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston, never win Grammys.”

Stockman says he was impressed that Lil Nas X was able to pull off the Hot 100 feat, and notes that if Boyz II Men had the help of the Internet in 1995, the group’s endurance on the charts would be “crazy.” Still, he said he hopes the young rapper can grow beyond the success of “Old Town Road” and take some trophies home with him come award season. “I hope that he wins an award that helps him go beyond that success,” Stockman says. “It’s going to be pretty hard. And I say that based on experience."

Mostly, Stockman hopes Lil Nas X is able to achieve longevity in the music world. "I hope that if this is what you want to continue to do, [you] have people around you that can help you develop into being [what you want], or you might be considered as a one-hit wonder," he says of the viral phenom. "I hope that you’re able to transcend even beyond ‘Old Town Road.’ That’s what I wish him.
