50. Roll the Bones - Rush "Clearly the rapping section didn't bother me as much as I'm sure it did for some of you" That felt more for me than anyone else. Normally I hate rap parts in rock, but this song was already a thrilling injection of Progressive Pop Rock. Could have been Stevie Winwood. Now for the rap. I thought it was the guy from C &C Music Factory or The Bingo Boys. He had a sort of soft tone. I didn't feel like he was going to jump out and beat me to death which is what I hate about rap charting on Pop then and now. 49. Time after Time - Ozzy OsbourneThere aren't too many 80's Rock icons left in the building before this RD becomes another Alternative one, but whatever what counts is that Ozzy released a hell of a rocking album. His Powerballads were spot on and I correctly gave the song the highest ranking here. 48. Layla (Acoustic) - Eric Clapton I listened to the acoustic version to hear the difference and I hated the piss out of it. What made "Layla" such an awesome tune was that riff before the chorus "Layla". This version had none of that. call me back when you plug it in. 47. Heaven Sent - INXS Good choice for Rock Radio crossover. The guitars give it the right vibe for the chart. 46. You Don't Have to Remind Me - Sass Jordan This one was decent. Sounds like a Poison Powerballad. This one injects a bit of Country western flva Which in my book where ok. I'm glad the other one beat it tho. 45. Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton What a travesty to see you all put this one so low. The one Pop ballad I could have really helped to upgrade. So you would rather songs about Lithium than about seeing your loved ones in heaven. All that bitchin' about lyrics and when A super lyrical ballad comes along what happens? I feel I lost a top 10 song for no reason what so ever. 8D 44. Empty Arms - Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble This was my favorite of the Stevie Ray jams. This jam has more Stray Cats in it then you realize. Maybe more "dad Rock" than anything , but dammit I love the 50's. 43. Church of Logic Sin & Love - The Men About freaking time too. WHT actual F U C K was this? A first time listen that had me gasping for air. I didn't feel the need to clip this songs wings off and let it free fall until the lead singer opened his mouth. talk your way through a song and land face down in my tank. 42. Last Chance - John MellencampThis song was rather dissapointing. None of the NRG I'm used to from John and co. A first time listen that wasn't very good at all. It saved itself because of John's vocals. 41. Make You a Believer - Sass Jordan Now this is a song. Sass Hits it out the park with this banger. This one is sorta Bluesy n' Gospley but still rocks proper. 40. Rest in Peace - Extreme This jam is alright. One of their better ones. but Lite Glam performing better than Real Glam Metal is rather WTF ish. Guess I can count on your support for Nelson then? :kii: 39. Human Touch - Bruce SpringsteenGood song. I like it and would put it very high in an AAA RD, but no way on an RD full of Guitar fire. 38. Even Better Than the Real Thing - U2 This is the only version of the song that I like. This one fit so well on this Active Rock RD that I even gave it a P-P-P- .... ;) 37. One - U2 Gave it a pity ranking for being in my top 5 in that last Alt RD we did. I still love it better on Alt. 36. Life Is a Highway - Tom Cochrane Way too low. We won't get a chance to rank this on Alt, so This could have been its shining moment. Instead "Lithium" makes the top 30. 35. Mysterious Ways - U2 Great song. One of my fav from the band. Love The Psychedelic vibes way too much. 34. Love and Happiness - John Mellencamp ...and this would be my least favorite song I've ranked from John yet. None of the Heartland Rock vibe , and it really just kinda falls flat in the melody department. For once I say that the guitars are way too loud for his style. Of course it would be the favorite for PULSE? 33. Another Rainy Night (Without You) - Queensrÿche Amazing Powerballad vibe. You can hear some Dokken in this easily. Maybe even a little Def Leppard too. He really belts out the chorus. You need to belt out the chorus if you wanna get into my top 10. Queensrÿche are hit or miss with me, as you will see when the other song is revealed. It's not bad just not anywhere near this son's level. 32. Anybody Listening? - Queensrÿche I guess someone was Listening? This was in the "Silent Lucidity" realm. Still has some Def Lepp and Dokken. It just didn't convince me enough to give it repeat listens. 31. Until the End of the World - U2 I left this one in the bottom half more or less where I put it on alt. Even lower actually. I just never cared for this particular song.

EXTRAS:Hit Between the Eyes - ScorpionsKinda Scorpions going through the motions. That bass line didn't really fit their style. Sounds more fit for Poison. I still like the song enough to chart it. Shake for Me - Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double TroubleMore uptempo than the songs we ranked in this RD. Sounds like 1980. 1980 rulez. Them Bones - Alice in ChainsAnother strong AIC song with that classic vocal style they are known for. More fierce Guitar solos that I I can Air Guitar to. Wouldn't sound out of place on my Skid Row-Guns N' Roses playlist. BTW this is more melodic than the melody hating crew realize. Better Days - Bruce SpringsteenMore like Better songs. File this one under forgetful flop. Man on a Mission - Van HalenWish we could have ranked all six of these jams from the album. Real Love - SlaughterThis one uses the Winger - "Can't Get Enough" and some Whitesnake melody bass lines in the backround. The best thing here is the chorus. Mark Slaughter belts it out like a flame thrower. Mark has stronger vocal than even Vince Neil, he just wasn't in the right band. J oe Walsh - Vote for MeJoe has some really cool jams. "Life's Been Good" "Space Age Whiz Kids". He injects some Eagles blues, but he also goes full throttle with his guitar. It's no wonder "Life In The Fist Lane" is my favorite Eagles song ever. He was the front seat writer. I just realized he basically talked his way through this song, but I still kinda dug it. He also played guest guitar on "Outside" by Foo Fighters so F U C K yeah Joe Walsh. Reach for the Sky - FireHouse The keywords for that award were "Favorite New Heavy Metal or Hard Rock Artist" Neither AIC nor Nirvana were hard rock nor Heavy Metal. Firehouse also performed well on Pop. At least they gave the awards to bands that actually fit the category back then. Now a days Imagine Dragons win Rock albums of the year. Anyway, These guys are lite Glam Metal ,but this song was lite Glam wanting to graduate to Full on Hair Metal. I think they did achieved that perfectly with this rocker. BTW, this song is about their hair. :kii: Painless - Baby AnimalsGot this cd in one of those 50 cent discount crates. Great vocals made this band's music a pleasurable listening experience. Tired Wings - The Four HorsemenI don't really need to rank tank any Four Horseman music in the future. Pretzel Logic - The New York Rock and Soul RevueI'll pass on this one. Shakin' the Cage - The ZooI hear some AC/DC here especially in that intro. The whole song is a AC?DC rip off, but I dig it just the same. Wasted Time - Skid RowI wish this youtube clip had louder volume. Great one by Skid Row. Pirate Radio played this one all the time. Sebastian is another Rock GOD that sacrificed his vocals up to the Booze Demon. LOL! Sometimes I think that was actually a thing. Prince of Darkness coming back to collect. Your vocals or your life MF? Pick one. LOL!. Anyway I would have ranked this higher than "November Rain" and that one is pretty epic. Love Walked In - ThunderThis great powerballad caps off another superb set of rank down extras. My favorite by this band was "Dirty Love" I got this album on vinyl. *Tonight I'm at least where I should be Last place on RD closeness and first place on Year End closeness. I won't have any top 10's left tomorrow. That's a guarantee, so I hope I can hold on to Year End Closeness by the end of tomorrow's reveals and take both crowns in the end. ;)

{WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD WALL}#50: Probably my biggest secret shame of the rankdown, but I will defend this by saying that, honestly, outside of THAT part, it's not that bad of a song. But yeah, the rap...oh, the rap. GLUTEUS MAX. Geddy, what were you thinking, man? #49: The right Ozzy song went out first. Some decent parts, but the sum doesn't work as much as I would hope. #48: A really, really good song turned into a bang average acoustic track. The original probably would have been my #1, if we somehow went back in time 20 years. #47: Still as predictably okay as it was in Alt, but boosted because, well, Active. #46: Both of the Sass songs in this rankdown were just okay, which is a shame, because I was expecting a little more from at least one of them. #45: Okay, allow me to defend my ranking here. I think we established that we were ranking the studio version, yes? If this had been the Unplugged version, it would have been much higher for me. The acoustic version just feels right, whereas the studio version has always felt wrong. #44: Couldn't let either Stevie song make the top 40, eh? #43: This is a perfectly cromulent song that I did not really care for all that much. I also do not think that it deserved a bottom two, but okay. #42: The right one is highest, but this is one of the better songs of his that we have ranked so far. #41: Can we turn around and just bring "High Road Easy" back? It would have easily made the top 40 here, right? :kii: #40: The best song from this particular Extreme era, so it makes sense that it would be the best performer. #39: I do not like the fact that I did not rank any Springsteen song top 40, but this...was not a particularly good year for The Boss. #38: Still solid, good spot for it. That's all I've got. #37: AYYYYYY. Wasn't expecting this to leave so soon, but I'll take it...even if I was two off ( too off). #36: This had a top 30 highest SD despite not having a single bottom 20. That's kind of hilarious. But yeah, I've never really cared for this song. It's okay, I guess, but it's so mediocre. #35: This was preordained to be my first top 20 loss. I'm just happy that it's higher than "One". #34: I'll concur, this is my favorite Mellencamp song so far. #33: I preferred the other Queensryche song, but this was good, too. #32: Oh, speak of the devil. #31: Fine choice for highest U2 song, even if it wouldn't have been my first choice. There's a couple of songs that I'm surprised are still in, but none more so than "Right Now". I know that this was a pretty decent era for Van Halen, but I would not have expected it to crack the top 30, either.

Rush, rush, baby come to me: 50. Roll the Bones: Although I was fine with the setup of the song, the lyrics and the singing were kinda weak. The best I can say for the rapping is that I didn't remember it? 49. Time After Time: The chorus was decent, the guitars were fine (although they drowned out Ozzy's vocals), but the lyrics in the verses could have used some work. 48. Layla: I think this song works well either way although I do prefer the original. With a solid guitar and nice vocals, this might be one of Eric's best output of the 1990s. 47. Heaven Sent: Alright, this is a better spot for this song than in Alternative. It's just solid rock from Michael and INXS. 46. You Don't Have to Remind Me: It is one of those songs where you can feel the heartache, but at the same time, this wasn't a song that I necessarily felt. 45. Tears in Heaven: I guess I'm not shocked that this would be the highest ranking of the trio (I helped with this, apparently). It's another case of just because the song is slower in tempo doesn't mean that it's sleepwalking. Particularly if you watch it with softer vocals that fit in with the pacing. 44. Empty Arms: Hopefully, Stevie Ray will eventually crack the top 40. This is just well done blues rock done right. 43. Church of Logic, Sin & Love: I dug the guitars, the chorus was fine, but the vocals during the verses was a miss for me. I guess this was its original sin. :kii: 42. Last Chance: The vocals were OK and the guitar was solid, but the song kind of gets drowned out by the instrument. I'll promise to be more favorable to 1980s John Cougar. 41. Make You a Believer: LOL at Sass not making the top 40. I enjoyed the nice bluesy sound and her lived in vocals really sell this song. I was even fine with the handclaps towards the end. Perhaps with Stevie Ray, this would have been top 30? 40. Rest in Peace: Confession time: this was the first time I've heard this one. The violins at the beginning was a bold choice that worked. The rock part of the song was solid. Confession time Part 2: I'll be there for one of the Extreme songs in 1990, but not the other one. 39. Human Touch: Guess I'm not surprised that this would be the highest ranking Bruce song for 1992. Everything about this song was rock solid. But it wasn't his best one. #JusticeFor57Channels 38. Even Better Than the Real Thing: One of four solid songs from U2...I liked one better than the other three, but everything about this album releases were solid. 37. One: Another song that I've already tackled in the Alternative rankdown. Not much else to say. 36. Life is a Highway: If you asked me if I knew which of my top 10 songs would have gone first, I would have either guessed #4 (which we've seen ranked criminally low already) or #7 (I don't think this rankdown deals with epic). It wouldn't have been this song which I thought was at least bound for a top 30. LOL. PS: To those people who ranked this outside of the top 70, may this be the only version of this song that plays: You: But Alexa, I wanted the good version of this song. Alexa: I remembered your ranking of the "good version" of this song in the 1992 Active rankdown. You prefer this version. PPS: I almost made this one my #1 of the round. Went a somewhat different direction, but I suspect this'll be my best chance to place this song on top because I may well place a different number one for 1991 Alternative. 35. Mysterious Ways: Heh. I get through 63 rankings without losing a top 10 and I now lose them back to back. That groovy psychedelic guitar is the main selling point for this one. 34. Love and Happiness: Yeah, this is a bit more like the John Cougar I know. Good to see him with some anger and socially conscious, but that horn just kills it for me every time. And by killing it, I don't mean make the song better. 33. Another Rainy Night: The instruments were solid and the vocals were decent, but I wasn't a fan of the samples they used. 32. Anybody Listening?: The guitar was solid on this one and there was some urgency throughout. But it did feel like a minute too long or so. But that ending... :o 31. Until the End of the World: Check out my posting in the alternative thread, rinse, repeat. Extras: Liked Them Bones, not sure if I loved them. Alright y'all, hand over that last place in Year End Closeness. I deserve to finish last in that category one good time. As for Rankdown closeness, it is what it is. Warning: If you take out my #1, you just played yourself. Tonight: I think it's time to lose the Rush and the instrumental.

55. Song & Emotion (62): Definitely my favorite Tesla song in this RD, with better melody and music and vocals, but still not convincing to make it to top 60. 54. The Sky Is Crying (90): I try to give this type of blues song a fair chance, but man this was just too much. God guitar work, but otherwise too boring and long of a song 53. To Be with You (14): :'( A personal chart-topper and a hit back home. Great vocals here, plus timeless melody and music made this a song that I really liked that year and that I still listen to once in awhile. 52. Living in a Dream (75): This was a better song, but still a bit too simple and forgettable. 51. How About That (20): A bit surprised I was the highest ranker. A hit in the rock radio stations back home, and a song with the combination of melody, strength, and good vocals that I really liked --it peaked in my personal top 3. 50. Roll the Bones (43): Actually, this was my 2nd highest ranked from them, as I liked the melody and the dynamics of the music throughout the song (including the 'rap'). An interesting song to say the least :) 49. Time After Time (85): I slightly under-ranked it… I still feel the chorus could’ve been much stronger, but I should’ve ranked it ~15 positions higher. 48. Layla (23): I LOVE the original, especially that guitar riff. I felt this was a good recreation as a mellow, folky ballad with a different but pretty good guitar sound, too. It reached my personal top 5, and I’m happy to have contributed to make it reach the top 50 here 47. Heaven Sent (55): I ranked it a bit better here than in Alt, but I still think this was a disappointingly simple rock song for INXS. 46. You Don't Have to Remind Me (69): Good blues vocals and decent production, but melody was underwhelming... 45. Tears in Heaven (16): Huh?? I sorta understand tanking TBWY, but this one? This is an emotional, heartfelt, soft but poignant ballad. 44. Empty Arms (74): Good guitar work here, just not my cup of tea, especially with several songs that I did like. Not complaining to see it this high though. 43. Church of Logic, Sin & Love (13): A song that packed a lot of good memories from first undergrad year, so it immediately had a spot in my top 20. Plus, I did like that chorus, drums and guitar work. 42. Last Chance (98): I’m VERY surprised to see this one in the top half. It’s one of the most soulless, personality-lacking song that I’ve ever heard from John, with quite a forgettable chorus. A clear ‘nothing’ song for me. 41. Make You A Believer (61): Nice discovery that reminded me a bit of the songs I like from Melissa Etheridge. A bit more familiarity would’ve helped me rank it a bit higher.

40. Rest in Peace (34): I had forgotten about this song. A good rediscovery! Good vocals and music with a bit of funk and rock combo. Great placement in this RD.
39. Human Touch (48): This made the bottom of my personal chart in 1992. The chorus is good enough, but that bridge with strong vocals and guitar are the best of this song, and the reason it made my top half in this RD.
38. Even Better Than The Real Thing (66): Yup, still not a big fan of this song lol.
37. One (7): Of course!!! First top 10 loss, and I’m still disappointed at this being unable to reach the top 30 in Alt or Active (and at least I helped it make the top 40, geez!). Another great ballad gone too soon.
36. Life is a Highway (12): ☹ Another big loss. One of my favorite ‘highway’ rock songs of the 1990s. It reached #2 in my personal chart, but I’ve listened to it more times than some songs that reached the top of my personal chart. Great beat, music, melody and vocals.
35. Mysterious Ways (26): I ranked it just a a bit lower than in Alternative. I like it but not as much as Horses or One.
34. Love and Happiness (78): I appreciate John for doing something leftfield here. However, this was just too messy for me. Even the trumpets, which I usually appreciate, sounded loud and annoying to me. I could’ve ranked it higher if this had a bit more melody and less noise,
33. Another Rainy Night (32): Queensryche surprised me in this RD. Their two songs were first listens, and both were amongst my favorite discoveries. Solid vocals, music and melody made for a great combination to me.
32. Anybody Listening? (35): Idem –plus good lyrics. Good to see both this high ☺
31. Until the End of the World (72): Based on the Alt RD, I knew this would happen, but well I still feel that musically and melodically speaking this is their least interesting song in this RD.

You have the 30.314 I'm still at 27.443. F U C K. I'm only taking the farthest from RD closeness crown. I logged on early to see if this RD can clear the remaining 80's icons before the top 10. I'm betting it will.

Love the song, but not at all on this group of songs. "Boys Don'T Cry" "Inbetween Days" yes. This one. No way.

That;'s exactly where this RD is going. Nowhere. This one just missed my top 10 because there was way too much Def Lepp here. One Ozzy Left and still three Nirvana. I must be in hell?

The Black Crowes finally take their first hit. Just one song of theirs made the top 30 previously but all 3 of their songs made it this year.

Black Crowes are cool. This isn't one of their best at all.
