This album was Alanis' first release after completing her contract with Maverick Records in the late 2000s. It's also been her only studio album this decade Collective Sounds released it 7 years and 1 month ago in the States and Columbia Records distributed it internationally. Alanis recorded the album in Califonia while raising her newborn son with Joe Chiccarelli and Guy Sigsworth. Many saw the album as a return-to-form for Alanis with the return of hard-hitting guitars, big choruses, and some angry, outspoken lyrics, after the muted, electronic Flavours of Entanglement and the Adult Top 40-chasing So-Called Chaos. Unfortunately, radio had largely moved on from Alanis at this point. Only the lead single "Guardian" charted much of anywhere and it missed the Billboard Hot 100 and the Top 40 in Canada. In the three German-speaking countries, it was a Top 15 hit. I have been rediscovering the album lately and it's a lot stronger than I remember, except for the awful mixing of her vocals that make is sound like she sings most songs with stuffed up sinuses. She recorded A LOT of bonus songs. I haven't bothered to listen to any of them b/c the standard edition is so strong IMHO.

Great album. Guardian was such an excellent comeback.
