"35 MPH Town" is alright, but tbh I am just as tired of the lyrics to this song as I am to a song like "A Few More Cowboys". This song is lamenting about how dangerous the world is getting, and how things ain't what they used to be, but some of the lyrics seem a little misguided... Like, "Spare the rod and you'll sour a 35 mph town"... I don't think beating your children for misbehaving is exactly something to long for. I mean, I personally am fine with a spanking or two, but the way the line is phrased just sounds so creepy... And stuff like complaining about them doing away with shirts vs skins in basketball just seems so arbitrary and pointless?
The melody for this one also got stale pretty quickly. So overall I am totally happy seeing this leave already.

See, every dog has its day, dog, when the big dog throws him a bone. One moment in the sunshine when your ducks line up in a row. Lucky dog get a big ol' bed, stray dog gets the porch. Every dog has its day, dog, but today, dog, just ain't yours.

Can you say, STUPID but CATCHY???!?! "Every Dog Has Its Day" is such a silly mess of a song, but the melody and arrangement is absolute fire! And tbh, kinda like "I Like Girls That Drink Beer", the hook works WAY better than it had any right to based on such a stupid premise...
Also, the way he randomly cracks his voice in the middle of the "I dipper her and I kissed her" line is one of my favorite vocal moments in his entire catalog. This is a great example of what a talented vocalist Toby is. He is certainly an above-average interpreter of songs, which makes a stupid song like this way more listenable than it would be if somebody like Luke Bryan sang it.

"Trailerhood" is yet another of Toby's offerings that is just so stupid that you can't help but love it. This song makes fun of the trailer park life. I think this was a pretty terrible choice for a single, especially as a LEAD single. However, it is another one of those songs that works so well because Toby is such a charismatic vocalist on stupid songs like this! I think it would have been towards the bottom of any other artist's singles rankdown, while his was able to escape the bottom 15.

His 2010s releases have been hit pretty hard tonight, but now we're going to jump back into his major hit-making years! I think some people are about to be SHOCKED to lose one of his most recognizable hits in the next two reveals (especially the person who is going to lose a top 5!)

"Get Drunk And Be Somebody" was a top 3 hit from his commercial peak years. This song is one of the best "I-just-got-paid-and-I'm-off-work-for-the-weekend-so-let's-party" songs that I have ever heard. The melody is infectious, while the horns in the instrumental arrangement give this an edgy vibe that really enhances the angst of the narrator's situation. I never think of this as one of Toby's most iconic songs, and people are not always kind to party songs on Pulse, so I had no idea what to expect from this here. Honestly, I think I would have preferred to see this do a little better, but I am thrilled it at least was not a contender for the bottom 15! Now, nobody lost their top 5 with that reveal... So stay perched for that to happen next ![:smokingdiva:](http://i.imgur.com/t6wcd.jpg)

The only thing that's left to do for me...
Is stand high on this cliff Overlookin' the sea With my big blue note paper airplane That I just set free. I'm gonna wait here a few more minutes, And if it don't come back to me, huh, You guessed it; She's gone.

Just like that, we say goodbye to one of Toby's most iconic hits of the 2000s, as well as a top 5 from austin. This song was EVERYWHERE when it was out, so tbh overplay factored against my rank of it a bit here. I think this song is quirky and weird and has a likable vibe to it. I don't like it as much as I used to, but I am also shocked to see it leaving so early here. This is easily one of those songs that I expected to do better simply because people know it so well! Another charismatic vocal performance from Toby gives this song a touch of whimsical yet jaded levity.

I love "Big Blue Note" and have no regrets about my ranking. I thought it would do better here (Top 30) but I knew it wasn't a contender to do much else.
I disagree its an iconic hit tough...lol...does anyone but me even really revisit this song? lol
Keep the reveals coming :)

Just like that, we say goodbye to one of Toby's most iconic hits of the 2000s lolwut Since when is "Big Blue Note" some iconic big hit from his catalog? I'd say it's been pretty forgotten. I hadn't heard it in like 10 years and nobody ever talks about it. I forgot how it even went when I revisited it for this rankdown, and my low ranking should show why I forgot. I'm thrown by all this hyperbole. I thought we were about to lose an actual iconic Toby smash like "Beer for My Horses" or something with the way you were hyping it up. ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/3oz8xOWhuVpr3Kw3WE/giphy.gif)

It was a top 5 hit from right in the middle of his prime. I’m not sure what kind of hick town radio stations y’all are listening to, but around here “Big Blue Note” literally felt like it was on a similar level to songs like “I Love This Bar” and “Beer For My Horses”... You could not escape it. It doesn’t get as much recurrent play as some other songs from this time period, but to completely forget how this goes is not a thought I can even fathom! ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

To me this song coming right after “As Good As I Once Was” feels literally identical to something like “Love’s The Only House” coming after “I Love You”. Or “I Keep Looking” coming after “I Could Not Ask For More”, or “Troubadour” coming after “I Saw God Today”. Like, of course it got overshadowed in comparison, but it definitely has a place among his biggest hits.

I'm not at all upset with how this is going thus far. I really haven't lost any massive loves yet and I'm genuinely shocked. Usually I lose most of my top 10 in the bottom 10 lol.

Lol there is nothing iconic about “Big Blue Note,” from the impact it had on Toby’s career to the song’s melody and lyrics.

Lol there is nothing iconic about “Big Blue Note,” from the impact it had on Toby’s career to the song’s melody and lyrics. Okay, well whether you like it or not has no bearing on whether it was iconic or not. Especially because you dislike so many random songs. The point is that it was a top 5 hit from his prime years. That alone makes it literally more impactful than anything that has been revealed thus far aside from "Get Drunk And Be Somebody"...

This sounds like one of those cases like when TenPoundHammer used to pretend like a song his radio station liked was the standard for the whole country. Apparently they liked it up there, but it sure don't get played anywhere in the Midwest I've been, lol. Also "top 5 hit from the middle of his prime" doesn't carry that much weight when you consider it was one of his only songs to not hit #1 or reach the top 40 of the Hot 100 during that timeframe. Almost everything he released around that time was a massive hit on the charts, and "Big Blue Note" was like his ~20th biggest hit in the entire 2000s decade. ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

Having grown up in a “35 MPH Town” I’ve always found the song to be quite relatable. That said, the song doesn’t really have any replay value for myself but at least it was miles better than the albums lead single.
On the other hand, there’s nothing to love about “Trailerhood” and I’m somewhat stunned to see it get as much support as it did to not only make it this far but in escaping the bottom 10. Glad this trash finally got thrown out.
Some of y’all really need to let loose and have some fun once a while because “Get Drunk and Be Somebody” is an infectious jam.
Although I wouldn’t quite call “Big Blue Note” one of Toby’s most iconic hits of the 2000s I will say that the song received a ton of airplay during its time. I do somewhat attribute that to the fact that he was riding the wave of popularity from the previous single “As Good As I Once Was”. There really was a lot of build-up to the release of the Honkytonk University album at the time and he was certainly at a high point of his superstar status. That said, I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually heard this on the radio.

Could've tried just a little bit harder, Kissed you just a little bit sweeter. Held on just a little bit longer, Dug down just a little bit deeper. Let the world revolve around you And given you the stars above. Loved you just enough to make you stay. And I'd've lost you anyway...

"Lost You Anyway" freaking slays... In fact, the That Don't Make Me A Bad Guy era is one of my favorite phases of Toby's career. All 3 singles felt so incredibly fresh to me when they came out, in a time when it seemed like his career was at risk of falling into a slump. There is no doubt that "She Never Cried In Front Of Me" and "God Love Her" were way better than this one though, so I was not surprised to see them be the bigger hits, and to see this one leave first in this rankdown. Still, this is leaving WAY too soon... Towards the middle would have been a more appropriate placing for it. I literally love everything about this one, and Toby absolutely nails this vocal with the perfect amount of wistful angst.

If a man answers when I call, I'll just hang up; I won't say anything at all. If a man answers, I know what I'll do; I'll lie here awake so I don't dream about you. If a man answers this time of night, At least I'll know somebody's holding you tight. If a man answers, I won't call again. And I'll know where I stand while I twist in the wind.
