The most noteworthy aspect for me of "If A Man Answers" is the lyrical zingers. This song has some fantastic lyrics! The line, "If a man answers, I won't call again. And I'll know where I stand while I twist in the wind" always gives me chills because of the way it is phrased. I also particularly like, "If a man answers, you'll never know. He'll let you sleep while I let you go." Other than those amazing lines, however, I don't have strong feelings for this one. It is a nice listen, and I would certainly never skip it, but it is definitely not a song I ever really think of. I wish this hadn't stalled at #44 on the charts, but it was undoubtedly a product of his label struggles at the time. I believe he asked to be released from his contract around the time this was on the radio.

I see her layin' by the poolside every day. She ain't got a lot on, She ain't got a lot to say. She wouldn't look my way, But, buddy, what do you expect? I'm just the fix-it-up boy at the apartment complex...

"High Maintenance Woman" brings us the loss of yet another huge hit, this time with a #3 peak. This song is pretty stupid, but I can't help but love it! For me, the major selling point is the instrumental arrangement. That iconic guitar riff is like sweet ambrosia to the ears. I'm not surprised to see this leaving in the back half, but I think it should have don't a bit better personally.

"Beers Ago" is one I always tend to forget about, but every time I revisit it I remember how much it slays This song is such a perfect driving song! It seems like it was a fairly low-impact top 10, which is no surprise because at this point Toby's radio career seemed to be fading. Unfortunately it will probably go down in history as Toby Keith's final top 10 hit. My only gripe with this song is that Toby's voice sounds oddly thin and weak in places on this song. Still, the melody more than makes up for it!

Three words to describe "Lost You Anyway": schmaltzy, schmaltzy, schmaltzy. "If a Man Answers" had to grow on me ever since it was featured in the '99 Country rankdown, but I will concur with bboat11 about the hard-hitting lyrics. Man, what pain! :'( "High Maintenance Woman" is somewhat of a guilty pleasure I guess? I shouldn't enjoy "Beers Ago" (coming from a non-drinker), but I can't help but jam to it! No words for "American Ride" though, except...glad that it's over! ;)

"American Ride" is a stupid song about America, but none of the lyrics really make enough sense to determine whether Toby is trying to make any kind of political statement other than the fact that life in America is hectic.
Honestly, I think this song is really catchy. I liked most of the 'Murica tunes he put out in his major hit making years. It is only the unnecessary bringing-up-America-in-a-song-that-didn't-even-need-to-be-political stuff in recent years that has rubbed me the wrong way.
I can see why people might dislike this song, but I am not surprised to see it get more ambivalent ranks rather than hate in this rankdown!

"High Maintenance Woman" is cute but not a fav. Not upset to see it go now.
"Beers Ago" doesn't do it for me... I actually find it off-putting for whatever reason. I don't like the melody.
I liked "American Ride" back in the day... still decent, but hasn't held up well for me.

“High Maintenance Woman” has long been a guilty pleasure of mine and really only someone like Toby could even pull off a song like this as he has just the right amount of attitude and charisma to make it work. I knew this probably wouldn’t fare all that well, though, since I was also the only one who put this anywhere near their top 10 in the 2007 YE Rankdown.
“Beers Ago” is a fun listen but as with most of his material from the 2010s it kind of gets lost in the shuffle as his strongest material is by far front loaded from the two decades prior. “Made in America” is the lone exception, however, as that is probably one of my favorite songs of his from the past decade and while I may not actively seek it out I do still hear it quite frequently on the radio.

I’m surprised Stays in Mexico is still in. And Courtesy too... This is my fault I goddamn LOVE "American Ride" and honestly it's the only Toby song I still actively listen to. The rest are more nostalgic more than anything but that one I will add to playlists still. Again, the lyrics do absolutely NOTHING for me, but I love the production, the melody, all of it.

Wow, can't believe "Beers Ago" is already out. That song is an absolute jam, one the catchiest things Toby has ever done. That chorus is just such an earworm, it's one of the only Toby songs from the last decade that I revisit often. I have no idea how Made In America - one of Toby's most egregious 'Murica songs - managed to outlast it.

"A Woman's Touch" seems to be one of Toby's more forgotten '90s jams, which is really a shame. This song has such a cool, easygoing vibe to it. I don't have a whole lot to say about it, but I really do love this one

I honestly hadn't listened to "A Woman's Touch" in forever and have to say this was another one of those great rediscoveries that I remember enjoying quite a bit during its run at radio. Hard to imagine that songs like this while not great were still miles better than what is played on country radio today and still managed to get close to the Top 5.

I do believe this is my first top 10 loss thus far! I actually wasn't expecting "A Woman's Touch" to be my first top 10 to go.
Anyway, the song is GORGEOUS! Melody is absolutely to die for, the vocal arrangement slays, and Toby delivered it all SO well! I knew it wouldn't do that great because it's more unknown but damn, what a beautiful song.

"Cryin' For Me" is such a touching tribute to Toby's friend, Wayman Tisdale, upon his passing. The lyrics have some touching, amazing moments. I love the description of Wayman's voicemail greeting, as well as the mention of the fact that he played upside-down left-handed backwards bass guitar. Those are the little things that help make somebody so endearing, and are in fact what you miss the most when they are gone :(
Ultimately I think this song is a little too specific to get as much support as its supporters would undoubtedly like for it to receive. I think it making it as close to the top half as it did is a pretty good accomplishment.
