I wish Big Freedia had a verse, feels sort of superfluous just as ad libs in the chorus/bridge

It took a while but I'm starting to like this. I just wish Big Freida got a verse in though.

83 adds on impact date! Second only to Selena Gomez. KIIS added it, though Z100 did not.
Also second on Hot AC with 18 adds.

That this is struggling to get off the ground (I mean, we're still in the positive, but it could still go either way) sells the "rebuilding" argument a little more. She doesn't have nearly the good will or reputation she had with her first two records, even with the success she had from Rainbow, but I'm confident that with the right material she could have something of a comeback. I'm still not sure this is it, though.

There was never an expectation that this would be massive out of the gate. Nor is she in a position where she's going to struggle to get spins out of the gate.

I have a feeling the callouts for this are going to be horrific. I'm predicting a peak between 20-25. Anything higher than that is fantastic IMO.

I hope those adds aren't just for show and that all those stations will actually commit to this. Since it didn't have a premiere deal those adds better be legit.

There was never an expectation that this would be massive out of the gate. Nor is she in a position where she's going to struggle to get spins out of the gate. Is "rebuilding" a trigger word on Pulse lately? Jk Jk. In all seriousness, I don't think anybody was expecting an "Ariana" level hit. Is Kesha deserving of that? Yes. But, nobody expected that. IMO, Rainbow wasn't the conventional comeback album, meaning, a lot of the sales / streams were from people being curious about her new work / message / supporting her art after a terrible, *HIGHLY* publicized ordeal. She dropped "Praying" as a surprise single, filled with very emotional content, which fueled the general public's interest. Even with that, "Praying" peaked at 22 on Billboard, and nothing on the rest of the album even broke past 96 on Billboard. The album and song weren't smash hits. And lastly, Rainbow was a bit of a different style for her musically. Her lead single was a ballad, she didn't drop any pop bangers to the radio, which is her signature sound. So yeah, like it or not, I still think "rebuilding" is an appropriate word. Her "comeback" album had a lot of unique circumstances being applied towards it, and none of that applies as strongly this time around. I'm SO glad to see this song getting spins / adds, but as several others have posted here, we are far from knowing how well this song will do. I am VERY hopeful she can showcase her brand of pop to a new generation of listeners though. Her crazy brand of party pop was absent last time, so this is going to be the first time an entire generation will really get exposed to this side of her (since Warrior, which is almost 8 years old).

I don’t disagree and I don’t think anyone expected it to be an Ariana-sized hit. All I’m saying is she and her team would need to find a way to bolster her sales/streams if they want to get her back up to her peak, or close to it anyway. Nobody was trying to imply that she was doing that from rock bottom, or that she should be expected to have a massive hit out the gate. Honestly it’s possible she’s not even trying to replicate that success. Rainbow’s success may become her baseline and she might just working to maintain that, and that’s fine, but I would imagine her team wants more from her than that. 🤷🏼♂️

It's unfortunate that she's doing Apple Carpool Karaoke instead of Corden. Not sure why the Apple version is even a thing - nobody watches that shit.

I think Pulse oversells the success of her last album. For all the goodwill and press that "Praying" got, it wasn't a smash. It's also a song a lot of people respect and appreciate without truly enjoying it (the subject matter was not meant to yield an universal bop like WRWR, of course).
And the rest of the album was very poorly handled by the label (I still think LTLG was a moderate hit if promoted and "Woman" is one of the most obvious, expected flops of the decade).
I think rebuild is a decent word. Although obviously she is not on Iggy's level of audience rejection. You guys might not like the comparison (because creatively they're on different levels), but Rainbow was kind of her Witness era.

I think rebuild is a decent word. Although obviously she is not on Iggy's level of audience rejection. You guys might not like the comparison (because creatively they're on different levels), but Rainbow was kind of her Witness era. I don't know if I agree on this assessment. I honestly think both albums are part of her massive rebuild because she was basically out of the public eye for what... 5 years? Well, as an artist with actual impact at least. In many ways she was pretty much starting from scratch. When Rainbow dropped she was kissing 30 and had a ton of personal, public baggage that her fan-base was obviously expecting her to address. I don't think she had many options. The album needed to be something different and, above all, personal. But to say that people don't ENJOY Praying... I HAVE to disagree on that. I mean, go to one of her concerts and watch the overall response. That song really affects people. It moves them in a way that none of her other tracks do. It is absolutely loved, just in a totally different way from her earlier works. Its apples to oranges, but at the end of the day I wouldn't say one fruit is BETTER than the other. Just a matter of preference and honestly what you need out of a song in that moment. And regarding the album in general, while it may not be some major multi-platinum success, it DID manage to earn her another Billboard #1. That's an improvement over the Warrior debut. Anyhoo... regarding this NEW track. I love it. I love it because right now we needed something like that from her. However, that being said, it has already dropped off the Spotify 200 and its stumbling down iTunes day by day, leaving it in the mid-30's today... one week since it dropped. That is worrisome. They need to get her on something with a wide-audience ASAP. Jingle Ball or some major network event or... something. Without some proper face-time and thus a solid re-introduction to a younger fan-base, I fear this one might not even hit the Hot 100. That would suck, because this track is seriously great. An ideal combination of her older and newer sounds.

Rainbow was critically acclaimed, which Witness was not. Rainbow was nominated for a Grammy, which Witness was not. Rainbow was universally applauded, while Witness was universally panned. So... no.
