Hey, at least Katy Perry has a bigger chance to debut than... Marilyn Manson and Blake Shelton. I actually do see the Daddy Yankee song having a chance at debuting though, since the video came out at the same day. I really wish that Marilyn Manson song had a chance to debut, itβs easily his best song since the Holy Wood, and definitely the most accessible song he has besides maybe Sweet Dreams, but thatβs not saying much. I mean if he couldnβt enter off of having an original song thatβs prominently featured in a giant movie, then I doubt this will do it. Rock faces quite an uphill battle. His sales aren't stellar, he's only at #25 on iTunes currently. We've had rock songs around the Top 10 on digital sales still only make Bubbling Under. Like "Devil" by Shinedown, which hit #11 on digital sales, and only made #21 on Bubbling Under. Which means he would have to make it up in streaming, radio, or YouTube, which is just not going to happen. I liked quite a bit of 'The Pale Emperor' and 'Heaven Upside Down' myself. I find it interesting that Marilyn Manson has never been on the Hot 100, I thought he'd at least have a low charting hit or two. But nope, only a couple of songs on the Bubbling Under. I guess he's already been more an albums artist. He had his biggest radio hit just in 2017 with "Kill4Me".

Older demographics are finding streaming and listen to older songs more.

Spotify - 3rd Friday of October - songs with more than 1,000,000 streams 2019: 4 songs (0 debuts) 2018: 16 songs (3 debuts) This is depressive. Spotify is becoming more and more irrelevant as a platform. Summer Walker and NBA Youngboy both did 100k+ with pretty much the entirety of their streams coming from AM, and DaBaby probably still would have sold over 100k even without Spotify. Act Up peaked at like #26 while never cracking 400k streams on Spotify, and by the time On Chill *debuted* on Spotify, it had already damn near reached the top 20. It's to the point where as long as you're doing well on AM, it really doesn't matter how well you do on Spotify.

And without Spotify, Pop music wouldn't have surged back to competitive levels this year. Let's not act like just because their userbase's demo is changing that makes it irrelevant lol.
Just like Youtube making viral hits chart and not Urban music doesn't make it irrelevant either.
As of 6 months ago AM had 2 million more users but that was it (and worldwide, Spotify wins).
This happens to be an extremely slow week for new releases. And most of the stuff that is a hit right now is extremely old. Or do we expect "bad guy", "Sunflower" and "SeΓ±orita" to be commanding over 1m streams at this stage?
Big acts kinda tried to avoid Post Malone like the plague yet his numbers, while very impressive, did not dominate the charts in the way they probably expected.

I'd wager whatever most of these pop songs are doing on Spotify, they're also doing on AM. It's not just an urban slanted platform anymore when a song like Somebody You Loved is at #14 (excluding songs from residual album bombs). I'm not saying Spotify is no longer a popular platform, it's just not critical to chart success to do well on there.

I don't really get all the sweet but psycho - dance monkey comparisons/predictions. Other than being popular overseas first, they're not really similar. Sweet but psycho is a perfect pop song, a real crowd pleaser that always seemed destined to be a big radio hit.
Dance monkey seems much more like a viral/streaming thing, with a lot of people disliking it as well as liking. I don't think it will have that good of a run Stateside.

Yeah Spotify is clearly bleeding a lot of support to AM. Not only have Hip Hop/R&B acts performed better on the platform than Spotify, but Country acts whose supporters are coming over from iTunes have as well. And major pop acts like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Post Malone and even the Jonas Brothers have preformed as well on AM as they have on Spotify this year.

I don't know if it's just me, but the peaks on Spotify this year, especially Spotify US, have been really low compared to last year. Maybe it's because bigger acts dropped projects last year and didn't do the same this year, but some of the biggest songs on the Hot 100 this year didn't cross or even reach 3M daily Spotify US streams.

Yeah, I really don't get why streaming in general has been slow this year. There is not a lot of movement in the charts and the numbers are low.

It's not only you, I was shocked that neither Thank U, Next nor Hollywood's Bleeding had a single song debut above 4 million streams on US Spotify during their album bombs, especially TUN seeing as TUN (single) reached 4 million prior to the album release. That's a feat that J. Cole, Drake, Travis Scott and Lil Wayne were all able to do last year.

SECOND REMINDER:
Weβre a week away from November, and neither Rihanna nor Adele have released a single.
Donβt we just LOVE to see it?

I'm curious how high the Christmas songs will do on Spotify this year, I don't think it has peaked yet especially if it's true that more above 35+ are using it.

I wouldn't say Spotify is completely irrelevant. I highly doubt HIGHEST IN THE ROOM would've debuted at number one if it wasn't for streaming. Not to mention, streaming kept Sunflower in the top 10 for a few months. It is getting weaker but it's still a viable (and easily accessible) source of music consumption

Spotify is far from irrelevant. Also, I very much doubt that Frank Ocean will debut high but it would be amazing if he did.

Its not even the biggest paid platform in the US And nobody said that it was completely irrelevant, because its clearly not. Its just that it seems like its peaked

Is the Ariana remix of GAH impacting this week? If so, how much of a splash do y'all think it will cause?

I believe Old Town Road has had the biggest Spotify daily streaming numbers this year with a bit over 5.2 million.

Iβm hoping it gets released after/towards the end of November, so itβll have a better chance of not getting caught between years.

I'm curious how high the Christmas songs will do on Spotify this year, I don't think it has peaked yet especially if it's true that more above 35+ are using it. Wasn't Amazon/Alexa a surprisingly large contributor to Xmas streams last year? If so, I'd bet it'll be even stronger considering it's up at least 10MM since last year (something like 55MM US homes/70% marketshare). We shouldn't be surprised that streaming is becoming gentrified - just like iTunes before it. Like others suspect, as the base gets bigger (older), catalog streams (just like catalog album sales) will be filling in the bottom and spread out over more services. Plus even 'younger' users probably have much bigger playlists than even 2 or 3 years ago - it's not like people delete and stop listening to all their old songs for the weekly album bomb.

I'm sure acts don't plan their releases around arbitrary year end chart cutoffs... (see also: almost every Rihanna lead single from her one album per year phase).
As for Frank, I have to be honest, I have yet to find a sigle song by him that lives up to the hype. But hey, some chart action is always good!

"Harleys in Hawaii" is quite good. Any chance radio might pick it up and make it into a stronger hit? I can see it as the kind of song radio would swallow whole.
