Blinding Lights for Top 10!

Jonas Brothers - Sucker: 8/10, ranked #29A surprisingly huge bop considering the artists attached, I don't think they'll ever top this. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are: 5/10, ranked #55Pretty similar thoughts on this as Thinking Out Loud: boring, but sincere and pleasant enough to not be skipable. Drake - Hotline Bling: 4/10, ranked #64Pretty surprised this lasted as long as it did. The beat and Drake himself are fine but the lyrics are among the worst in the rankdown. Fetty Wap - Trap Queen: 8/10, ranked #25An absolute bop, the beat is fantastic and Fetty Wap has this undeniably fun aura around him. Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean: 7/10, ranked #39The best song Justin has made and will ever make. Beat is great and his more understated performance fits it perfectly. How Sorry outlived this I'll never know. The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey - Closer: 0/10, ranked #94The Chainsmokers suck ass and Halsey doesn't help them at all. Lyrics, performance, drop, everything sucks. Should've gone out way earlier. Now we just need my #99 out. Taio Cruz - Dynamite: 9/10, ranked #18Get the hell outta here. Classic bop, I will not take the Taio Cruz slander in this rankdown. Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin - I Like It: 6/10, ranked #49Again, Cardi can be a bit much and her guests are uninteresting, but that beat and sample is undeniable. The Chainsmokers ft. Daya - Don't Let Me Down: 0/10, ranked #99LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It: 0/10, ranked #96
A joke song that isn't funny is a shoe-in for this part of the list. Doesn't help that the beat is more grating and generic at the same time then anything the lower tier of the EDM boom shat out (with one notable exception...).
Remember when I said this? Guess what I was talking about. Taylor Swift - Shake It Off: 1/10, ranked #85
Yeah no thank you. Somewhat catchy but annoying as all hell, especially that fucking bridge, in contention with 7 rings' for the worst in this rankdown. One of Taylor's worst.

I was 100% sure that Taylor would finish #51.
Now, I hope we’re getting rid of my bottom 10s soon.

The ones who let One Dance hit top 50 and kept I Like It in bottom 50 are weak and will not survive the winter ^^^ shout-out to one of the least existent #1s of the decade for getting enough support to make the top half but on the other hand why the fuck is One Dance still in

{"I missed a lot because I'm busy" word wall}#60: Not exactly the most amazing song ever, but it does its job. #59: Kind of lame, but I can't hate this, I just can't. #58: All too close to a perfecto. #57: No real surprise that this was divisive here. Three #100s, though, geez. #56: We sure are getting rid of some perfectly fine songs before my #94. #55: Okay, it grew on me a bit. #54: I remember where you ranked SAIKI, gates. I don't really care about this song, but ranking SAIKI over 40 spots higher than this is a crime against humanity. #53: This is not the right song by a woman that should be revealed. #52: A former rankdown winner. That is all. #51: Hahaha, my #94 made the top half. Oh, you. (Not that I'm complaining about this missing the top half, but there are levels.)

Alright...seems like I missed a whole awful lot these past two days, and unfortunately many songs I cared about left in the process. 😔
65. See You Again (my #25): I knew this song was bound to leave in the bottom half. I personally adore it, though - Charlie Puth's performance is amazing and I'm glad this song was his entrance into the mainstream, and Wiz Khalifa's verses are great. A heartfelt rap ballad paying tribute to the late Paul Walker that couldn't have been better executed. Sure, it might be a bit cheesy and simple, but I still love it nonetheless. One of the defining hits of the decade, that's for sure, and at least it had a respectable performance here, under the circumstances.
Also, it's funny that the two Wiz Khalifa songs on this rankdown left back-to-back. That was an interesting coincidence.
64. Despacito (my #61, three away from a perfect ranking...): I am content with this song's position, for once. It's extremely catchy and a perfect song of the summer, with the production conveying a sensual fun vibe that future reggaeton and pseudo Latin hits failed miserably to replicate. However, since I am ranking all songs here based on the version listed on the official Billboard list, I have to count Justin Bieber's performance as well, and he unfortunately brings it down just below the top 50. His English bits at the beginning were unecessary and his whole presence makes it clear that he was just added for the name recognition, which is a pity because Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee carry the song more than well enough on their own.
Thinking about it, I could have ranked this higher, but I had to consider songs that are objectively better and more innovative and place them above it. Regardless, this remains yet another defining hit of the decade, especially when it comes to its latter half.
63. Break Your Heart (my #89): This one overstayed by a fair amount. I have less issues with this song compared to "Payphone" (which I somehow ended up ranking above it at #88). However, since I don't have any particular memories associated with this song, it's just an average early 2010s track that aged rather poorly, especially in comparison to the much superior "Dynamite" (which was so robbed, but more on that later). In a 2010 Year-End rank, I believe this would have been much higher, but in a Decade-End rank with so many groundbreaking and genuinely incredible songs, this one just falls short, sorry folks.
62. Grenade (my #23): I'm surprised its standard deviation wasn't higher, to be honest. I'm a sucker for Doo-Wops era Bruno - I grew up with it and had numerous road trips listening to that album, so the songs hold a special place to me in comparison to his later work. "Grenade" is such a gem and despite the simple premise Bruno delivers the lyrics with such conviction and passion. I just love this song so much and it disappoints me to see it leaving so soon.
61. Party Rock Anthem (my #68): Just like with 64, I'm not complaining much about it's position - sounds about right. The chorus is ICONIC, a whole mood, a whole vibe, encapsulating the whole essence of the club boom era alongside "I Gotta Feeling". However, the rest of the song is rather forgettable, the rap verses aren't as sharp, and the bit after 'shake that' really aged like milk. The bridge with Lauren Bennett is another highlight, though. In the end, there are two other songs that capture the spirit of the club boom better on this list, so this one just falls short.
Regardless, there's no way in hell this should have been lower than my #91, my #83, my #84 (the painfully generic and souless "Don't Let Me Down"), and my #79. At least "Party Rock Anthem", despite its flaws, tries something new and interesting with its given theme, and builds something iconic as a result. Do music lovers even remember my #91? Would people who grew up during the 2010s rave at a party if it ever came on? Nah, but put "Party Rock Anthem" on and you bet everyone on the dance floor would have a great time! 😉

Nooo, out of the Bruno songs y'all decided to get rid of Just the Way You Are first?? It's probably one of the few big love songs that's actually sweet in the decade. Knowing how basic my taste, though, unless y'all suddenly decided that every single Drake song regardless are all terrible, my top 10 is probably safe for a while

Adele - Rolling in the Deep Billie Eilish - bad guy Gotye/Kimbra - Somebody That I Used to Know Hozier - Take Me to Church Lady Gaga - Bad Romance Lorde - Royals Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! OneRepublic - Counting Stars Rihanna/Calvin Harris - We Found Love Taylor Swift - Blank Space I think these will be the final remaining for top 10. Not specifically in order. Among these, I put two in the bottom 50 and two in the top 10. Came up with this list through a process of elimination and it seems like all these songs are either liked by most people (don't think anyone would rank any of these in the bottom 20) or by a female pop star, or both.

Hm... I quite like this top 10. Love all songs here, even if my lowest ranking is at #54 (which is still relatively strong in my list, and I think I might have underranked said song anyway). Also, three songs from my top 10 would be here, including my #1! This is a very likely scenario and I would support it wholeheartedly. I'll keep a watch on it throughout the rankdown to see how many predictions you'll get right. 😉

Okay, let's finish off my opinions on the last reveals before we reach the top 50 today...
60. Sucker (my #28): An absolute bop, and it was robbed (especially considering that my #91 is STILL here). Sure, it borrows heavily from the melody of the superior "Feel It Still", but it manages to distinguish itself with a more modern twist, and the lyrics are great and fun and everything you'd expect from a catchy pop song. I hope it gets to be well-remembered in the years to come, and not only under the context of the Jonas Brothers' comeback.
59. Just The Way You Are (my #12): Yet again, ROBBED. I have extremely fond memories of this song, but it's aged really well too and it is by far the best take on the 'I think you're beautiful even if you don't think so' trope that was so popular in male pop during the early years of the decade. So, it definitely deserved to make the top 50, and romantic Bruno is the best Bruno, in my humble opinion. 🤷♀️
58. Hotline Bling (my #44): The beat is simple yet catchy, I LOVE Drake's performance here, and this song spawned an iconic meme that's still used today (a rare and impressive achievement for any meme). Sure, I see why some people would think the lyrics are a bit sexist, and there are some questionable lines in the bridge such as 'Used to always stay at home, be a good girl; You was in the zone' - however, he does back it up by claiming that's how she genuinely was before ('You should just be yourself; Right now, you're someone else'), so I can sympathize with the sentiment.
I'm not complaining about it's ranking though, even though there are two songs in particular that should have been out way before this one.
57. Trap Queen (my #80): Not really a song I'd go out of my way to listen to, but I enjoyed the production and the chorus in particular is pretty infectious. It's just that the songs above it resonated more with me, especially on a lyrical level. Still, there's no way this should have gone out before my #91, #83, and "Don't Let Me Down"!
56. What Do You Mean (my #32): ROBBED! 😡 Excellent, intricate production that's aged like fine wine, simple but great lyrics with an invested performance from Bieber ("Sorry" wishes), and an incredible comeback single from who was once the most hated singer of America. I really didn't care for the song back when it was first released, but I absolutely fell in love with it over the course of this rankdown. I can understand why "Love Yourself" would be out already, but did we really had to keep the basic as hell "Sorry" over this gem? Not to mention my #91 and #83, whose endurance truly baffles and infuriates me.

The Extras and where they would rank:
Just Give me One Reason - This was the reason I thought I disliked Pink for years because I hated this song. Then I realized I liked like at least 7 of her songs quite a bit. Number 94.
DJ Got Us Falling In Love Again and Only Girl in the World- basically in my " the songs are alright but never seek them out tier" Mid 60's to Mid 70's for both.
