Why is Senorita still so high? It's a hot steamy summer song yet people are still bopping to this in November? Radio Radio is a pretty easy target to blame for this sort of thing.

Radio is a pretty easy target to blame for this sort of thing. That even though Señorita was #10 in Streaming Songs last week and streaming accounted for almost the same amount of weekly points as radio did according to rimetm .

Don't blame radio for Senorita still being so high, blame the terrible music climate atm. Most of the huge artists just don't want to release at the end of the decade, so we're stuck with a bunch of incredibly weak summer songs lingering in the top 10 because nobody has come to replace them yet.

It’s just my interpretation of it based on how it’s been used in any official capacity anyway. Looking at every example of it, most aren’t accurate but are still defined as “one hit wonders.” The problem for us in these discussions is that we all take it literally but looking at how it’s used outside of this board, it’s almost always used ‘incorrectly’. Plus there’s the problem of not really having a definition of what a ‘hit’ is because it’s such a floating concept depending on so many factors. I choose to use the term (and air it here) without those restrictions because everyone else seems so stressed out over it. That all makes sense and is of course valid, but your participation here made it seem like you didn't see there are other interpretations. This post says otherwise, which is cool. Of course there are, and I happen to disagree with them - and fall into the trap of voicing it every time because whenever the topic comes up, people are fuming at the suggestion that (insert any artist here) is labeled a one hit wonder but "according to Billboard", they have more than one hit, or they have multiple hits on other formats/digitally/other countries/etc/etc/etc. So clearly the issue is how the term is defined.

Gentleman is a hit in the same way #SELFIE was a hit or even 'Earth' were "hits": viral for a few weeks but no actual staying power. It'd be like saying the 2010 We are the World remix was a hit, or Filthy or We Might Be Dead Tomorrow. Panini is a hit. 20+ weeks on the charts, with 8+ weeks spent in the Top 10. And going back to Gentleman, it was barely on any year-end lists; wasn't on the UK or Canada or Australia, whereas Panini is expected to place in the top half of the year end list for 2019. Cultural perception shouldn't be the be-all end-all for deciding OHW, otherwise bands like Third Eye Blind and The Goo Goo Dolls may be lazily labeled as such just because the public only remembers one song. Does Panini have 1.2 billion streams? Surely if it’s a bigger hit than Gentleman, it should have much more streams, considering it was released in the streaming age. On Spotify, Panini has almost six times as many streams as Gentleman.

"everything i wanted" Spotify & YouTube streams are dropping quite a lot. If it maintained streams it could've been #3, but early guess has me doubting top 10 a bit (maybe #10):
Sales = 22,000 Paid streams = 19,000,000 Free streams = 5,000,000 Passive streams = 0 Radio = 5,000,000 = 18,500
It lost a large chunk of sales and streams due to not releasing on Friday. Maybe labels are caring less about initial stats and are now favoring longevity?

I feel like UGC or whatever is a large culprit, not just radio, it causes songs to linger forever. "bad guy", "Senorita", "Old Town Road", "Ransom", etc. are propped up by that metric by a lot, despite YouTube not even counting it on its chart. If someone doesn't actually listen to a song intentionally (I think that's what UGC is, just random videos that contain parts of the song) it should be weighted way less, below programmed streams as a "tier 4" streaming metric, yet it appears to be counted as tier 2.

Praying that Gunna remix is a joke. Like of all the artists they could get for a heartfelt pop song, they go with Gunna?????? I think it was a good choice. I mean I also heard a fan made Travis Scott remix and it was 100% complete and total dog shit.

If Circles gets blocked again by SYL I'll be so angry, Post deserves revenge for Better Now. I think Circles will finally get #1, but it's not quite locked yet. It's very important that radio doesn't go rogue all of a sudden and the updates keep up their current pace. mzumii !! Circles:13,500 sales (-10%) 15,800,000 paid (-1%, -0% on Spotify so far) 3,700,000 free (-5%, YT tankage seems to be stable for now) 3,200,000 passive (-3%) 95,500,000 radio (+8%) = 28,500 (+2%)Someone You Loved:11,000 sales (-8%) 13,100,000 paid (-2.5% Spotify so far) 7,200,000 free (-5%, I'm assuming it will finally start dropping instead of increasing on YT like it has been) 3,000,000 passive (-10%+) 91,500,000 radio (-7%) = 27,300 (-6%)

The one thing I’ve learned from being a chart watcher post 2018, is to NEVER bet on Post Malone. We saw it with Better Now, Wow, Goodbyes (albeit to a much lesser extent), and now this. Like, I’m hopeful since I like the song and it seems to be possible, but we also said that both of the past two weeks lol.

Watermelon Sugar debuted in the Top 10 on Spotify, bringing back Light's Up with it. Harry's album is dropping in a few weeks so it's be interesting how that fares. Hopefully with the album release, Watermelon Sugar will be a hit in 2020. idk harry literally hasn't promoted any singles at all or sent any to radio this era.

I'm by no means a Gunna fan at all but he's most tolerable on vibe songs like Hot, Drip Too Hard and Space Cadet, and he's never tried for emotion or pathos like Post has.

And you gave them out of context to manipulate things to match your narrative. In context, it's exactly like Codex said: "Gentleman" was popular before Spotify, so it automatically is at a disadvantage against something that was released after Spotify blew up. So it doesn't actually prove the point you were trying to make.

So it doesn't actually prove the point you were trying to make. Pre-dating the streaming age and Spotify isn't as big of a hurdle for older songs. Yes, there is a disadvantage with newer songs obviously having more streams than older ones, however if we are looking at 2013, tons of hit songs from the same year have 100M+ streams on Spotify, look at the top 10 of the year (with the exception of Harlem Shake). But even if we are going to bring up context, in the context of 2013 era of music streaming and buying and Youtube, it was mostly a hit on Youtube, only gigantic in Korea, not in sales or streaming. It would've been considered a flop to the US market, and not a successful hit.
