Bop and Woah ended up as #1 and #2 at YouTube. Maybe OTR won't be returning to #1 there, finally.

The numbers *slightly* went further in Circles' favor, but it's still too close to call. My pessimistic side is prepping up for SYL to get a fourth week atop...

November 29, 196901 07 Come Together / Something - The Beatles (1st and only week at #1)02 04 And When I Die - Blood, Sweat & Tears 03 01 Wedding Bell Blues - The 5th Dimension 04 02 Take a Letter Maria - R.B. Greaves 05 06 Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye - Steam 06 05 Smile a Little Smile For Me - The Flying Machine 07 12 Leaving On a Jet Plane - Peter, Paul & Mary 08 08 Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday - Stevie Wonder 09 21 Down On The Corner / Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival When the Hot 100 made its debut in August 1958, It was a common rule that as long as both sides of a single had enough points to chart, they would both be allowed to chart individually on the Hot 100. Of course most B-sides of singles didn't chart, because unlike the A-side of the single, which was the one that they were hoping would become a hit, the B-side of most artist's singles were usually throwaway songs that weren't very good. But there were exceptions. Artists like Elvis Presley; The Beatles; and even the Monkees, managed to chart some B sides. A new Elvis single was usually so popular that he managed to send both the A and the B side into the Top 10. A few years later, The Beatles did the same. The Beatles' best A and B side chart showing on the Hot 100 were for the week of December 26th 1964, when A-side I Feel Fine, hit the #1 spot and its B-side She's A Woman managed to climb as high as #4 all on its own. Fast forward to the week of November 29th, 1969, when Billboard ended its eleven year policy of charting both the A and B side of singles. From now on if any single's B-side became a hit on its own through its airplay, its points would be combined with the A-side and it would chart as a double sided hit single. Enter the Beatles' Come Together single and its B-side Something. Both songs were culled from the Beatles most recent hit album Abbey Road. Come Together entered the Hot 100 Top 10 the week of November 1st, 1969 at #10. A week later Something entered the Top 10 at #9. By the week of November 15th, Come Together had risen to #2, while Something was right behind it at #3. However, the following week Come Together had fallen to #7 while Something stayed at #3. It seemed quite possible that neither song would have enough points strength to rise to the #1 position. And then the following week Billboard changed its policy; the points for both songs were combined and the songs rose to #1 together as a double sided #1 hit single. The first under the new Hot 100 rules. Another note about the rise of Come Together/Something to #1, is that when it happened, it gave The Beatles a total of 18 #1 hits. This put them permanently ahead of Elvis Presley, who (combining both his pre-Hot 100 #1's and his Hot 100 #1's) only had 17.

I remember this rule causing some issues in the 1990's as well when plenty of acts had their chart histories drastically shaped by the double-A sided single, like Foolish Games/You Were Meant For Me by Jewel and Candle In The Wind/Something About The Way You Look Tonight by Elton John.

Lewis Capaldi's 'Someone You Loved' Achieves Record-Extending One Hundred and Seventieth Week at No. 1 on Hot 100
2/6/2023 by Gary Trust
Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved," with his remix featuring Maroon 5, Cardi B, Drake, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, The Wiggles, XXXTentacion, and George W. Bush, stays at No. 1, after 170 weeks at the spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Feb. 6). Capaldi lasts another frame on top of the Hot 100, as Post Malone's "Circles", stays at No. 2. Notably, "Someone" is the only song to top the Hot 100 since late 2019, breaking the 19-week record previously held by Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road".
With a 170th week atop the Hot 100 for "Someone You Loved," here's a look at the 11 longest-leading No. 1s in the chart's 64-year archives:

If the song lasted even close to that long on the charts it would likely be from the late Lewis Capaldi. 170 weeks is only a bit over 3 years. Unless you know something I don't, I don't think Lewis Capaldi is likely to keel over at 26 years old.

Thereโs something about this thread thatโs really been angering as of late, and I feel like itโs a misconception I need to dispel. Every single day, we get a one-off statement complaining about how weak the charts are. This is wrong. The charts right now are absurdly strong.
Letโs look at Simonโs predictions this week and compare it to an average post-scorpion week, seeing where all of the tracked songs would place in such a week. Now, letโs be clear, the weakness of the charts isnโt a complete urban legend - it just comes with our obsession with the top. Placing Circles - the projected #1 - into an average week leaves it at #5. Thatโs not great, and if we want to talk about weak #1s, then yes, that certainly holds true for the past month. But as we go down the charts, that trend begins to reverse. Someone You Lovedโs point haul unsurprisingly also lands it at #5, and thereโs still a big fall off to Good As Hell to #8. But then, the slope just kind ofโฆ. stops. Memories and Senorita also have #8 point hauls, and the rest of the top 10 bottoms out at #11 point hauls. Obviously, that would still make this week weak, but stick with me. By the time weโre down three spots to Trampoline, we can compare its totals to an average #13โs totals - exactly where itโs expected to be. And hereโs the kicker - from here on out, every single song does equal or better than an average song at its position. 88% of the charts are stronger than normal. But if you thought my rant ended here, boy were you wrong. Letโs take a look at this. Whatโs the normal point cutoff for the top 20? Well, the answer is around 145. How many songs are projected to get over 145 points this week? 26. In an average week, OTR is still a top 20 song. To be fair, this also stems from how ridiculously competitive the teens are for this week - as we get into the 30s this trend mellows out. On Chill, predicted at #30, would reach #27. Good for sure, but not mind-blowing. Then everything just kind of stops. Drop down 9 spots to Bop and in in average week you drop down three. So yes, to hammer this point home, Graveyard would be a top 30 hit. Sadly, Simon starts to trail off his predictions after the top 40, but thatโs just fine - I donโt need many examples to shock you. Donโt Start Now? #32. The Bones? #34. Both songs would jump over 10 spots. None of Your Concern? #38. Jerry Sprunger? #39. Reply? #43. Watermelon Sugar? #45. All of these would be top 50 hits. Just as importantly, it means that at the very lowest, songs 51-62 would rise into the top 50. I say at the very lowest because thereโs a large gap to our next benchmark, so the top 50 cutoff is somewhere between 62 and 73. Speaking of which, how about Liar? If we thrust it into an average week, it goes from falling 18 spots to 0. It would stay at 55. All The Good Girls Go To Hell? #57. Every song between #40 and #75 is at least 10 spots off. Now all of that is incredible. But thatโs not the end of it. The lowest song weโre shown is Tusa - clinging on after its debut at #90. What happens if we put this song in an average week is mind-blowing. #65. I feel like i need to say that again. The #90 song this week would be #65 in an average one. 25 spots. It would rise 25 spots.
TL, DR: This week is insanity, and we have no reason to be pessimists.
