song was originally recorded in 1946 and reached #3 at that time on Billboard . the version popular today was recorded in 1961. song seems to under perform each year compared to other older Christmas classics.could be because it is a ballad and most people seem to prefer more uptempo Christmas songs in recent years.

That has to be the only reason because this is an authentic Christmas classic that deserves to finally reach #1 someday.

seems to peak at #11 most years on the Hot 100 which includes this year.

Crazy that this has peaked at #11 three years in a row. There were only 7 other Christmas song ahead of it this year though versus 8 in 2021, 9 in 2020--hopefully it'll make it next year.

It's interesting to see this so steady when some others have been up and down. Run Rudolph Run peaked at #10 two years ago but only managed #34 this year. I guess that one took a hit on playlists for whatever reason.

as i mentioned before the song actually debuted in 1946 and reached #7 at the time on Billboards retail chart . i previously said it reached #3 but that was on the chart from Joel Whitburn.
