What can happen, I believe, is once an old song hits the chart, it becomes subject to normal recurrency rules and will be allowed to chart at any position after debuting/re-entering so long as it adheres to recurrent rules. Meaning a 3-year old song must wait to reach the top 50 to debut but can chart below the top 50 afterwards so long as it hasn't reached 20 weeks.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still curious why that Will Young song was allowed to chart in 2010 though.

My best guess is probably because he performed it live on American Idol where it had also been used as the exit song that year, so Billboard counted it as "active promotion" and allowed it to chart? That's all I can think of. Otherwise it's just Billboard being their classic inconsistent self, lol.

Question... and forgive me if it has already been addressed, but...

I see that many have predicted “All I Want For Christmas Is You” to go number 1 on the first January dates chart because of Christmas Eve/Day streams and radio. Is it possible that it goes a week earlier (at least)? That would give Mariah number ones in the ‘90s, ‘00s and ‘10s, right? I don’t think she’s had a Hot 100 number 1 this decade. Would be nice if she could get it on the last chart week of the decade and maybe the first chart week of the new decade.

And Lucid Dreams far outpaced Circles, Roxanne and AIWFCIY in terms of number of streams. About 50 percent more than Roxanne, 80 percent more than Circles and double AIWFCIY, the top three non-Juice songs on Spotify.

Yes, it seems all of this is in play. It looked like there could've been a chance for it to go No. 1 in this chart week even, but I'm guessing Juice WRLD is going to get to No. 1.

Modify what rules? Your post seems to be saying you want them to keep old songs from re-entering when someone dies, but it's ok with holiday songs re-entering each year despite being old?

Anyway, isn't it a bit early to say "LD" will go to #1? Will streams hold? It 'missed' the first 2 days of the streaming week and won't have much airplay.
