It will as long as it enters above position 25 (or maybe 50, I forgot how long it was on the hot 100) it was on the charts for 46 weeks so ya above 50. But i forget if thereโs rules for songs that are older If a song is at least two years old then it has to be in the top 50. This doesn't change anything for Lucid Dreams, though.

Lucid Dreams has a great shot at going #1 now. The current #1 is very weak in chart points. Has there ever been a song that has re-entered the charts at the #1 position? The highest re-entry that I can pull up is "Million Reasons" by Lady Gaga at #4 on 2017/02/25. I don't know if there has been anything higher. Edit: "Not Ready to Make Nice" by Dixie Chicks also at #4 on 2007/03/03

I still remember when Baby Shark charted below 50 before falling recurrent, even though it was over 2 years old.

Potential theory for "Ocean Eyes." The album it is associated with was younger than 2 years old when it charted even though the song itself was 3 years old by then. Perhaps that's why Billboard allowed it? This holds up with Lizzo too as "Truth Hurts" was not tacked on to Cuz I Love You until after it blew up and "Good as Hell" is a part of Coconut Oil, which is 3 years old. So perhaps the album's age applies more so than the song's age?

Good as hellโs debut below #50 was bizarre as hell idk I think it was because she performed it at the VMAs (?) that week. Or maybe it was just some sort of weird calculation thing, because it was really close to making the cutoff - it debuted at #52.

Now that we are already in this "will this dead person x be #1?" discussion, surely Bandit has the advantage over Lucid Dreams as it's been top ten or thereabouts on both streaming platforms all week.

I'd say Legends has a good chance of peaking really high too due to featuring in most articles about his death (due to the eerie lyrics). Another one to maybe watch out for is 6 Kiss by Trippie Redd ft. Juice WRLD and YNW Melly. It has been promoted a bit already and a music video was filmed a few weeks ago (with Juice) so when that drops I'm sure it'll be big.

Juice WRLD's death is really sad because he has a lyric prophesying not making it past 21 and then goes and dies 6 days after his 21st birthday. An official medical report hasn't been released yet, but he was a known heavy drug user, especially when it came to lean. Other rappers like Lil Wayne and Rick Ross have spoken openly about how they suffered constant seizures due to their consumption of lean. They were just lucky to not be killed by it. Even Mac Miller abused lean, even though his death was officially ruled as ''an accidental drug overdose due to a "mixed drug toxicity" of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol.''
I know musicians have been abusing drugs for ages now. It's nothing new and I'm not dumb enough to blame the latest string of rapper deaths to just being a thing of ''this generation'' not knowing any better. I understand that addiction is way more complicated than that. It just really hurts to see talented people still losing their lives prematurely because of it. This brings a really sad end to the decade.

In terms of doing posthumous releases done right, the project releases for the Cranberries and David Bowie are good since they were finished projects.
Bad don't just include X and Lil Peep, but also the recycling of unused demos of Michael Jackson. They were unused for a reason and digging them up for cheap publicity feels really disrespectful.

Sure Banditโs already charting, but it only has streaming supports. If it had radio, thatโd give it the edge, but Lucid Dreams probably has more residual radio. LD should be the highest charter.
Also, hereโs to hoping for a three year year-end streak for lucid dreams. He deserves that legacy.

In terms of pure numbers Bandit already has an advantage, but Lucid Dreams is the best-known of his songs so I can see a huge one day streaming boost thatโll be enough to propel it to the top like when X passed

Late, but RIP to Juice WRLD :( 21 is way too young for him to die and I was completely surprised by the news. Within the span of a year, he established himself and created one of the best tracks of the decade with "Lucid Dreams".

I thought the rule for a song being 2 years old would apply only if the song had charted before? If "Good as Hell" never charted before 2019, does it matter whether it's old or not?
Or did "Truth Hurts" only debut when it was above #50? I remember some people waiting a while for it to chart.
Also, why does "Juice" get no love? It plays all the time in the UK, was first Lizzo song I knew, and it's a bop.

Only just noticed (by F3 searching "Juice" on the Hot 100) that that "Bitch I'm a cow" girl is charting with a song called "Juicy". Good for her?

Billboard is never consistent with their rules. I still remember when Baby Shark charted below 50 before falling recurrent, even though it was over 2 years old. I think it's very clear that old songs that are yet to chart are allowed to chart in any position (hence Will Young's Leave Right Now debuted like a decade after the initial release). Now if they HAVE charted, they cannot re-enter below top 50 if they are over 2 years old. Incorrect. Truth Hurts and Good as Hell both had never charted before and had to wait until they were eligible for the top 50 to debut*. *GAH debuted at #52 likely because that week it was given a televised performance, likely kicking in some "active promotion" rule. Both songs had enough points to debut before they did. What can happen, I believe, is once an old song hits the chart, it becomes subject to normal recurrency rules and will be allowed to chart at any position after debuting/re-entering so long as it adheres to recurrent rules. Meaning a 3-year old song must wait to reach the top 50 to debut but can chart below the top 50 afterwards so long as it hasn't reached 20 weeks.

I'm still curious why that Will Young song was allowed to chart in 2010 though. (I'm not obsessed, it's just one of my fave songs lol)
