I think we as a panel of judges are pretty diverse, our tastes are pretty varied, we disagree and agree on many things so I don't think the problem relies there. Every single song this set had at least two judges who really liked it, and if a judge does not like a song here it's not that we're not "strong" judges or anything, it's just different opinions and that's all this game is about Eh, I don't see it. Sam just went with the first two people who volunteered to be judges and no effort to diversify the panel was made beyond implementing a rotating guest judge a few rounds into it. I basically had to forgo country music altogether knowing that it would be tanked to the bottom regardless of how good the song was: "Strawberry Wine" being called 'just generic country' is pretty wildly off-base, for instance. And you liked another poster's comment poking fun at Leo's commentary of a song being boring so that was a co-sign of someone questioning another judge, lol. I kinda just stopped even reading the commentary in full after awhile because I feel like a lot of it was just one-liners that didn't give much of a detailed opinion (and it wasn't just you, fyi). If this things gets another "season," I just hope that there is an effort to pick judges from different corners of the board so the panel is properly balanced. Happy to represent Pop in a future season, or compete

Yeah, there's a difference between agreeing with someone (in this case, thinking D'Angelo is not boring) and calling the judges panel "not strong enough". I don't agree with some of their decisions but I think they still did a great job judging, independent of their tastes. Plus, I really don't want it to be seen like I'm a country music hater (hell, Farewell Transmission is one of my favorite songs of the decade), I have just not been pleased with the submissions on here, it's not a genre-bias, just different music taste, and while I do agree that maybe the next time the judges pannel could be bigger, I definetely think we as a whole have been doing a pretty good job here

I have absolutely no issue with the judges, but a larger panel in future seasons would be pretty fun just based on how chaotic the game would get. Although I worry the game itself would take too long with more judges having to listen to every single round on time.

I'll think of a solution for your concern before I start the second season. In respond to your other comment though, I'm sorry that the judges' taste wasn't in line with yours but I believe we're not biased at all with our scores. The fact that one Ariana song win while the other is in the bottom two is a good enough proof, for me.

Everyone has their own tastes and if you don't like the songs being presented to you, then it is what it is, but the judges just being the host and the first 2 people to say "sign me up" does not make for a balanced panel. Eh, I don't see it. Sam just went with the first two people who volunteered to be judges and no effort to diversify the panel was made beyond implementing a rotating guest judge a few rounds into it. I mean yeah, it's alt country, not like the stuff that would chart or whatever, but anyways I don't want this to get bigger so let's just stop here lol

ROUND SIX - RESULTSWelcome to the sixth elimination ceremony. Only 8 of you will survive this elimination. For this round, I've invited another guest judge other than .indulgecountry to join the judging panel, and he has something to say before we get to the results.Hello contestants! I'm the secret guest judge for this round, given my young age it seemed fitting~ I loved listening to all of your suggestions and had no song I didn't like which is an excellent sign of how well you guys did. May the odds be ever in your favour! ~ Mylo13 💜
With Mylo13 💜 in the judging panel, some of you may have benefit from the fact... but who's the luckiest person? So without further ado, the person who did the best is...
CARRIE!Dua Lipa - "Don't Start Now"And the award for best improvement goes to... YES GIRL! Congratulations on your first win, you just have to keep this up!
Sambalada: "This song is such a breath of fresh air on the charts. It's so groovy and fun. You can't help but to dance away with it. All the live performances and videos make me fall in love with it even more. The bouncy production reminds me so much of CRJ's Emotion album, which is a high standard! The hooks had to grow on me but right now, I'm totally vibing to it. Everything matched up perfectly, probably Dua's best song." (9.4) MoD: "This is a great song all around. First off, this production man, it is just great. That bassline is one of the catchiest things I've heard on pop music lately, just infectious, and this girl reaaaaally can sing, for real, her voice is gorgeous. And when we mix that stuff and add a great and catchy yet you don't get tired of it, it's obvious that the final product will be as good as this is." (9.0) Lukas: "This is nowhere near Dua’s best track but it is still fantastic. The intro in this song is amazing and gets you hooked, the vocals are great throughout and the music is incredibly nice. The production is somewhat weird but I can let that pass." (9.4) Indulge: "I've said it before, but this is an incredibly tight pop song. It really fires on all cylinders and I can't find anything about it that I'd consider a flaw. The way her vocals wrap around the melody of this song is just blissful, especially on the notes she scoops into on the verses. Probably my favorite moment in the song is the little background music/vocals that segues into the bridge, for whatever reason. I just love that part around the 2 minute mark." (10) Mylo: "Talk about a grower! Dua's songs usually click straight away but for whatever reason I didn't really get into this one at first release. I think it was the verses which threw me off but on repeated listens it really clicked. I don't have much to say for this one unfortunately, it's great in a way that's hard to pin down. The obvious star of the show for me is the lyrics. Talk about a clear, concise message, this is more of a slice of careless annoyance than her song literally titled IDGA*. Every line here is excellent through a blend of confidence, believability and sophistication. Taylor Swift, the alleged queen of painting boys badly could learn a thing or two from the writers of this track. The production is solid, if a bit downplayed and grooveless in comparison to the vocals. The final chorus is really the highlight of the song, where all the parts of the song are at their best and Dua Lipa has likely already gone to Vegas while this guy whines into his 11 twitter followers. A great lead single from Dua, and an equally great choice mystery contestant!" (9.0) TOTAL: 46.8 | AVERAGE: 9.36
The second best is...
TRILOGY!Dua Lipa - "Be The One"Two Dua songs in the top 2?! How basic the judges can be?! Congratulations on another top 2!Sambalada: "This song is where it all begins for Dua Lipa. It still sounds fresh today and probably will still be in 2030. I still remember the first time I heard it, I thought to myself, this girl should be the next big star. Her rich vocals tone is beautifully showcased and this is one of the best usage of tropical pop influence on a song. The US pays her dust but this is a fantastic international breakthrough hit." (9.0)MoD: "I'm not the biggest Dua Lipa fan but the picks here were really on point lol. This one is probably her catchiest song, the summery vibes it gives off are really welcome, and even more with that chorus, which is simply an earworm, and it's even better when it comes from a voice like this. My biggest problem with it is probably that I think the verses could be a little bit stronger, but that doesn't affect the overall enjoyment of it at all." (8.5)Lukas: "This is the strongest song in this entire set. It’s incredibly catchy, it’s fun, the vocals are great and on-point, the lyrics are great, and the song was produced well. In short, it is a song that is simply near perfection. I can’t find anything that drags this song down." (9.8)Indulge: "This one has grown on me over time as has Dua the artist. The beat is pretty infectious, the chorus melody slaps, and I enjoy the sort of echo-y way her vocals are processed on this. It's definitely a strong effort, but not quite as exciting as the other song selection from her in this list." (7.4)Mylo: "Okay, whoever sent this must've gotten told that I was guest judging somehow because this is too perfect otherwise. This is straight up in my top 10 songs of all time, an incredible powerhouse of a track that rightfully launched Dua Lipa into the budding pop star she is today. Not only is the production immaculate with its bouncy and energetic swell, it also adds a sense of longing through the down beat that immediately hooks the listener in. Dua matches every production element and builds upon them so well it's hard to imagine the production separated, every aspect of this song connects. The lyrics aren't necessarily great on their own but the sound of the song amplifies them ten fold and this all shines in the chorus. The buildup to a beautiful payoff, with strategic gaps to take in everything that's happening. This track is amazing and has defined so much of my teen life, well done to the lucky contestant who chose this!" (10)TOTAL: 44.7 | AVERAGE: 8.94The third best is... WALT91!Lorde - "Perfect Places"Congratulations for successfully proving that one B2 was a fluke! You're still in!Sambalada: "2017 was a year when pop music was losing its spark, every song follows the same structure. And then there's Lorde sticking out with this masterpiece and its parent album. Amazing instrumental along with Lorde's beautiful lyrics really made it a flawless track. From the moment the intro kicks in, you're already taken for a wild ride. Her vocals are beautiful and it's surprisingly catchy too. It's up there as one of my favorite Lorde song." (9.8)MoD: "Lorde really knows how to do a good pop song. The production on this is pretty good, for example those synths and piano are veeeery fitting to the style of the song, and really, you just hear that first verse and you already know it's going to be a great track. Her voice is so sweet, and wow does it show up on here, because this song never stops being interesting, those melodies simply don't let you, with the lyrics also being a high point of the track." (9.0)Lukas: "It is quite self-explanatory is to how this song is great. The vocals are top-tier and it’s pretty catchy, not to mention the fantastic songwriting used here. The music doesn’t fit perfectly with this song in my opinion but I still like it." (8.7) Indulge: "Not a big fan of Lorde overall, but her vocals are pretty solid on this one and not as grating to me as some other songs I've heard from her. The synthy and vocally layered chorus is admittedly a real earworm and verges on an anthemic feel. Easily one of her best songs in my opinion." (7.0)Mylo: "I'm a decent fan of Lorde, I've loved most of her singles from Yellow Flicker Heart to Homemade Dynamite and I'm usually never upset to hear her. Unfortunately, this song isn't up there with her bests. It's not any one part of the song, it's all of the song operating at a 'fine' level for me. The verses are the biggest culprit for me, the production is slow and empty. This would usually bring attention to the lyrics but they also don't do much for me. Thankfully it gets better in the pre-chorus but then the chorus hits and it loses me again. I actually think the spare outro is my favourite part of the song, it gives the song a moment of catharsis that the song lacked otherwise, even in the chorus. It's still not a bad song but it's missing the brilliance to put it up there with Tennis Court or Green Light, it feels like the idea and final product are different songs entirely. Good try though." (7.0)TOTAL: 41.5 | AVERAGE: 8.3Next... MAYMAN!Clairo - "Bags"Sambalada: "I haven't been keeping up with Clairo but, bitch, this song slays. Her raspy vocals and the nice instrumental is a relaxing combination. She has this unique singing style that put you in a good mood, and she's using it to its full potential in this song. The guitar is really nice and create an even relaxing mood. Clairo shows so much promise with this song." (8.8)MoD: "I really like this style of minimal yet enchanting and cute pop. The production is simple but great, and it really works well with her voice, creating some really nice sounding stuff that reaches you like an earworm, simply great." (8.7)Lukas: "I haven’t kept up with much music over the past year, so this is admittedly a first listen, but this song is great. The production is fantastic, and I also liked how the instrumentals and the vocals mixed in on this song. The lyrical content is also nice. A highlight in an otherwise abysmal year of 2019 for music." (9.2)Indulge: "I dig this. I discovered it in the WTM seed #4 rankdown and placed it in the mid-20s there. The production livens the song up enough to avoid it feeling too lethargic and the vocals are pleasant and have a quality to them that reminds me of an early Disney vibe ala Aly & AJ or Hilary Duff from the 2000s. Not something I'd see myself revisiting a lot, but it's a solid song." (6.0) Mylo: "This song grew on me a decent amount since Wintertime madness. It's a song I think you need to hear with a louder volume to take in all the complexities with the instrumental, it really feels complete and her vocals perfectly complement them. The lyrics are probably my biggest complaint, they're not bad in any sense but I'd struggle to call them good. It's also a song I think could be easy to skip if you weren't feeling the vibe, but thankfully for the contestant I am right now." (8.5)TOTAL: 41.2 | AVERAGE: 8.24Next... JUG!Melanie Martinez - "Dollhouse"Sambalada: "I try to be objective and only focus on the song but I haven't been comfortable listening to her music ever since her big 2017 scandal, but I used to listen to them all the time. I fully supported Melanie to breakthrough back when this was first released. I love the production and her quirky girl antique perfectly crafted the atmosphere of the song. The melody is standard for a pop song but her style makes it a more pleasing listen. Lyrical content is creative although a bit redundant in context of the album. Still appreciate how brave she is for speaking up about her home condition. Love how she's breaking barriers with it." (8.6)MoD: "Melanie Martinez is an artist where I feel confused about. I mean, there's no denying that this is a quality song, the lyrics are really good, but I don't know, I feel like they are the only really high thing this has. The melodies are fine, but they don't do enough to completely grab me, while the production is nothing out of the ordinary, it does well its job but there's not much more after that." (6.2)Lukas: "This song is quite enjoyable. The lyrics especially fit in with the overall feel of the song. The vocals are not the strongest but that doesn’t bring down the song that much." (7.5)Indulge: "Idk her that well but this has always been the 1 song that I've loved from her and used to bop to back in the day. The creepy carnival music set a nice dark mood to this that I've always enjoyed. The chorus is so enticing melodically and the lyrical portrayal of dysfunctional family relations hidden behind the walls of a house is so clever." (8.8) Mylo: "I've had experience with problematic star Melanie Martinez before, notably with her excellent release Soap. That was one of my favourites of the given year but this is actually pretty solid as well. I was expecting an atonal creepy song with no substance but this sounds pretty tame. This is like Melanie's interpretation of Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, despite the fact it came out beforehand, and I'm here for it. I don't actually know what the lyrics relate to but they feel important, which is half of the battle. They also somehow work with the instrumental which I wasn't expecting, the whole song sounds like it's hiding something more sinister behind the curtains but they're going to let you decide if you look at them. Good song, and a really brave choice given her recent cancellation, hopefully it can pay off for this contestant!" (8.5)TOTAL: 39.6 | AVERAGE: 7.92Next... IO!Lorde - "Ribs"Sambalada: "This song simply took my breath away. What the f**k was happening? The electronic elements really create this great almost-creepy atmosphere. Lorde's style is apparent and work so well in this song. The songwriting is very strong, the melody structure is weird but it stuck in your head. This girl really did THAT, and she was FIFTEEN! Whew!" (9.6)MoD: "I have always liked Lorde, I feel like her voice and style of going on songs is unique, and although this is not one of my favorites, it is still a really nice pop song. The production is pretty good, but I feel like it had potential to end up in something bigger than how it finally ended up, but on the other hand the melodies and the way her voice goes over them are really cool, I just wished it could have fully developed." (7.5)Lukas: "I guess I like what this song is trying to do but for some reason it doesn’t do it for me. The verses aren’t that strong compared to some of her other songs and the production is pretty mid. It’s not a bad song by any means but not good enough for me to actively seek out." (6.5)Indulge: "The intro music grabbed my attention and I like the driving beat that carries the song. Her vocals are pleasant on this and even though there's not a lot of progression or variation that comes along, I feel like there's a comfortable groove to this song. Like the Clairo selection, this is definitely the definition of being a perfectly fine song that I wouldn't find myself energized to revisit regularly but I also wouldn't mind listening to it." (5.5) Mylo: "What a haunting yet enticing tune! The MVP of this track is clearly that instrumental, it creates an amazing atmosphere that Lorde works off and builds up. The introduction to the song slowly introducing the production is unsettling in the best ways! Lorde's vocals fit the tone of the song well here, they're partially drowned out which allows them to mix with the background rather than fight against it. I also really appreciate the challenge of sending a non-single far into the competition, this pick isn't an easy one and I'd say it paid off. This was a great first listen, good luck to this contestant!" (8.5)TOTAL: 37.6 | AVERAGE: 7.52Next... HAMED!Megan Thee Stallion - "Big Ole Freak"Sambalada: "Oooh the production in this totally slaps. The beat got me shaking my ass side to side. The rapping wasn't my favorite, I've heard better flows from other rappers but it's not like she's ruining the song either. It's just fine. Overall the song is okay, nothing outstanding but a nice listen." (7.2)MoD: "Megan Thee Stallion is definetely one of the strongest popular female rappers lately. I think the chorus kind of does not fit on it, a find it a little generic, but otherwise this is a great song. The verses and pre-chorus are highly entertaining, and god, I love her flow, it just goes so hard on such a good beat and songs like these are a prime example of why people like her." (8.0)Lukas: "As not a fan of Megan at all I actually think this is one of her better songs. The vocals are pretty good but that is about it for me. The production in this song was extremely mediocre and I didn’t like the rapping here at all." (5.0)Indulge: "I've really been digging what I've heard from Megan so far. I enjoy the husky sound of her rap delivery and she has a knack for melody because all of her songs that I've peeped so far have had me swaying. This isn't one of the more exciting selections from her, however, it's a little more 'there' compared to stuff like "Cash Shit" for me. I do like it, but it's not a standout for me." (6.5) Mylo: "So i'm a pretty basic and pop orientated guy. I surprised people just by liking a Kendrick Lamar song, like usually I don't mesh well with trap or any form of hip-hop for that matter. But I would be lying if this wasn't an absolute banger from head to toe. This song requires the least analysis, the instrumental is fire, Megan sounds amazing and every bar slaps. After not liking Hot Girl Summer that much, this was another surprise but an extremely welcome one, this song was well deserving of being Megan's first hot 100 hit and I hope Megan makes hits as good as this in the future!" (9.0)TOTAL: 35.7 | AVERAGE: 7.14Which means the bottom two is... BIGFAN & NICK PERKINS Bigfan, you were worried because you never had a standout moment with the judges but you never switched things up. So what is it? Nick Perkins, after a string of strong performances, you sent a mediocre choice this week. Don't ever feel too safe!
The person who get to stay another week is...
BIGFAN! Maddie & Tae - "Die From A Broken Heart" Sambalada: "This song is just there for me. I don't love it but I don't actively dislike it either. I can point out more positives than negatives from this, though. The vocals are beautiful and the hook is actually very strong, especially at the end of the chorus." (6.9) MoD: "Surprise, surprise, I'm not feeling this song. Yeah, country ballads are definetely not my stuff. The vocals were pretty nice, they sing on point and that's notorious here, but I think that is like the only strength this song had. The melody of the chorus is just really basic to the point where it gets just boring, honestly this song isn't special at all, nothing really impressive about this." (3.0) Lukas: "I thoroughly enjoyed this song. The verses are the main strength for this song and the lyrics are fine. The production could use some improvement but that doesn’t mean I don’t like it; it’s still a nice song." (7.5) Indulge: "Literally everything about this song is utter perfection. That melody just hits so strong right from the opening chords, and Maddie Marlow's vocals are absolutely divine, but the added harmonies from Tae Dye when they come in just soar this from already great to incredible. The lyrics also paint a very heartbreaking and real picture, and from a unique perspective of having that phone call home to get consolation from loved ones, wrapped up in one of the best hooks I've heard in awhile. Hands down one of the best songs to grace country music in the past year from all fronts." (10) Mylo: "I'm a sucker for a good country tune haha, and this does satisfy that! It's definitely not great, the track feels almost cheap in a way and as if it's missing a hook. The verses are really sweet but then the chorus hits with almost the same energy and it doesn't leave the impact it should. It is relaxing but that isn't the mood I want to be feeling from a sad breakup song haha. They could be singing about a beautiful summer day for how the song sounds, I just feel like the writers forgot to make this sound sad. The lyrics make up for this however, I love the realism of what they're talking about and it's just a shame it doesn't connect with the sound more. This is solid but it could be so much better." (8.0) TOTAL: 35.4 | AVERAGE: 7.08
This may be your first bottom two, but you've been very near the bottom from the start. Your time is basically counted if you don't switch things up but for now, you're safe.
Which means...
NICK PERKINS, I'm sorry but you've been eliminated.
The Vamps feat. Demi Lovato - "Somebody To You" Sambalada: "This song is so Disney lol, I love it though. The vocals aren't the best thing ever, they sound like they haven't dropped the balls yet which is actually a good thing for them since I'm sure the target demographic for this song is middle-school kids lmao. However that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, in fact it was my jam when it first came out. But then again, I was a pre-teenager then. The melody is lowkey an earworm. I love the summer-y feel of the instrumental." (8.0) MoD: "I definetely don't like this radio disney-core stuff. This song is just a living cliché, from the ""yeah you""s, to the annoying chorus, to that group of people singing before the last chorus, and to be honest, the teen-like voice the lead singer has really doesn't help to defend this song. The production is also another flaw, because this has to be one of the most unimaginative pop tracks to come out this decade." (2.5) Lukas: "This is a definition of a mediocre song. The vocals aren’t bad in any way, but it’s definitely nothing special. The production was so middling in this song as well. Also it’s incredibly repetitive." (4.6) Indulge: "Oh look male vocals finally show up on the last song of the playlist, lol. I typically enjoy boy band songs, and this one definitely works well for me. I like the sing-songy catchy nature of this number, the heavy percussion in the production, and the upbeat vocals all come together for a pretty tight pop song. I love how bright and cheery this is. The addition of Demi Lovato is also a big boost to this as she's by far one of the best vocalists in the current music scene." (8.5) Mylo: "Listen, if you want to impress me as a song here's the perfect recipe. Instantly fun beat, great melody and an explosive chorus that is about some generic love thing. This song checks every box and then some, I've loved it since release. If I was an actual critic, I could point out that every member of The Vamps seems like unlikeable obnoxious twerps, the video is creepy and Demi clearly wasn't willing to be there with them, the bridge has approximately no effort put into it and Demi also easily outshines every member vocally. The song is also whiter than me and blander than tofu covered quinoa but this is the sort of song where all of that matters none. This is the pop music I love, where it's anthemic and is undeniably catchy. I would give this a perfect score had a song not been in this set that does everything this song does slightly better, but this is still an amazing piece of pop fluff!" (9.5) TOTAL: 33.1 | AVERAGE: 6.62
Since past performances didn't have an impact in scores, it's so easy for someone to get eliminated for one bad round. Unfortunately it happened to you. Thank you for participating.
But wait...
... This is a pre-determined non-elimination round.
That's right. Before this game started, I've discussed with the judges that we'll have a non-elimination somewhere in the middle of the game and we decided we would have it in the sixth round. So that means you're still in the competition!
However that doesn't come for free. As your punishment for getting the lowest score, you'll receive a penalty in the next round. The penalty is for every score the judges give you, it will be deduced by .5 points. Thank your lucky stars.

When Mod says he doesn’t want to be labeled as the country hater....but gives a 3 to that song. 🙄🙄 Thanks .indulgecountry! I knew you’d appreciate it. 😘 So do I celebrate my first 10 or be sad cause I was in the bottom two?

So two celebs that I adore (not related to music) liked a tweet of mine last night and now this happens?! YAASSS! Something's been in the water this weekend and I'm so thankful for it. Thank you so much; and I plan on doing my best going forward!

Wow I escaped bottom two, that was a shock
I was the only urban song there and well, wr all have seen the urban purging in games of the past.
Definitely interested in seeing how the themes will play out now, also damn at this not being a elimination round, oh well it makes for an interesting twist

Not one of the best songs ever finishing 6th, behind a weaker song by the same artist & some other pop picks. “Ribs” is mindblowing.
Also, Nick staying in was so deserved cause he has basically dominated the game prior to this round.
