This vastly exceeded my expectations in regards to it's placement so I'm cool with it going out now, glad some of you really liked this one(:

#8 Grandaddy - The Crystal Lake
Chosen By: peacebone Genre: Indie Rock Year: 2000
Points: 593 SD: 10.06431698 (8TH LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This is, very likely, the song I wanted to get into the most. Theoretically, I should have adored this, but...I don't know, it never quite got there. shazam: my highest first listen :( this is psychedelic as hell, not sure how i've never listened to Grandaddy before but i'm definitely going to now

#7 Joy Division - Decades
Chosen By: willapted33 Genre: Post-Punk Year: 1980
Points: 595 SD: 11.51231225
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I did not have any issue getting into this, meanwhile. This is just devastating and haunting in all of the right ways. shazam: i'm a massive Joy Division fan, and this is one of my favorites on Closer

How am I the lowest rank for Hoodoo Gurus? I like them quite a bit & had this in my top 20 initially, but this isn’t one of their best & there were so many great songs competing for my top 30 that they just didn’t quite make it

well it was a good run...for any who likes that song, the debut album is superb through & through...most anything from it would make my Top 10 here despite the respectable competition

#5 Interpol - The New
Chosen By: @humanshazam Genre: Indie Rock Year: 2002
Points: 636 SD: 11.4023807
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This isn't my favorite Interpol song. Hell, it's not even my favorite song on TOTBL. It's still really damn good, though. shazam: interpol

again, I really like Interpol & a different song would’ve likely landed much higher on my list...thankfully I’m shielded by an even lower rank

one of the best tracks in one of the best album of the 2000s, of course it was destined to be above at least one of my picks lol

#4 Massive Attack - Protection
Chosen By: Lordef†ones Genre: Alternative Dance Year: 1994
Points: 638 SD: 11.0520414
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: You know, for a long time, I just couldn't really get into Massive Attack. Looking back, this seems pretty stupid. "Protection" was one of the ones I did always like, though, and god, it's so good. Tracey Thorn is such a good fit for this sound. shazam: i mainly come back to Mezzanine-era Massive Attack, but there's no denying this song's greatness

Most legendary songs attract people who try and fail horribly to cop its shine with samples/interpolations, but I've yet to encounter a really awful usage of "The Payback"

#3 Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film)
Chosen By: rainie Genre: Indie Rock Year: 1997
Points: 692 SD: 11.05656452
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: what, Red put the Journey 1 song at #1, omggggzzzzzzzz shazam: the final climax is simply earth-shattering, one of the first tracks i fell in love with from Radiohead

#2 Television - Marquee Moon
Chosen By: jamesflame Genre: Art Punk Year: 1977
Points: 720 SD: 10.31573001 (10TH LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Seeing this make the top two is remarkable. Not that it's undeserving, far from it, it just surprises me that this has become such a heavy Pulse favorite. shazam: i think the moment Marquee Moon was released was one of the most important moments in music history, this song floors me no matter how many times i come back to it. also, look at that, a ten minute long song finished second??

#1 The Cure - Boys Don't Cry
Chosen By: willapted33 Genre: Post-Punk Year: 1979
Points: 760 SD: 6.939877864 (LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Bobby's ranking prevented this song from only having top 20s. That is nuts. Probably the most purely pop song The Cure made for almost a decade, and it shows their knack for a fantastic pop song long before the likes of "Lovesong". It's also my least favorite of the Cure songs in this series, so make of that what you will. shazam: pretty obvious winner, but by no means a bad winner. definitely one of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite bands ever. let's see if The Cure gets a repeat win this tournament...

YOUR STATS ARE READY!
Two seeds down, two to go!
Before we go on, I've decided to go with an initial two week deadline for seed 2, so the current deadline is February 27th at 7pm US Eastern. I might change this, especially given how this conflicts with a couple of deadlines for other rankdowns I'm hosting. For now, we'll roll with this and see what happens.
With that said, a reminder of what's coming up next:
SEED 2 Alvvays - Adult Diversion Aterciopelados - Bolero Falaz Bad Brains - Sailin' On Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars Bill Nelson - Do You Dream In Colour? I was so rooting for "Marquee Moon" to win it all. It was a first listen, and a damn good one at that.

#10. Soundgarden - Spoonman Once again thank to those who could rank this one higher where I couldn't. I like a few Soundgarden songs, but I have always loved this one. It's no surprise this and my other entry from STP have similar guitar melodies. #9. Hoodoo Gurus - What's My Scene? This was a bit cheesy but still lots of fun. #8. Grandaddy - The Crystal Lake I wasn't ready to like this one too much. It could have been a good Weezer song with much better vocals. #7. Joy Division - Decades I love Joy Division, but this particular song happens to be one of my least favorite by the band. It's still Joy Division tho. #6. White Lies - To Lose My Life It hadn't dawn on me that this is the same band that does "Tokyo". This one is extra delicious in the post 80's New Wave vibe. #5. Interpol - The New Great Alternative Indie rock band. This band is either in or very close to my top 10 on this RD's. Even with these slower jams. #4. Massive Attack - Protection I don't know what this song's purpose was, but it needs a Massive dose of adrenaline. #3. Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film) Nope not for me at all. You all know what two songs I like from this band. #2. Television - Marquee Moon This was pretty decent and for a first time listen it made my top 20. #1. The Cure - Boys Don't Cry Easily in my top 3 , and my favorite Cure song. Great to see it win here. @humanshazam and Red Great job guys. I'm glad I got to follow along on this round. A couple of great discoveries. Better start ranking the next seed now.
