Time to Ketch Up #30 . Falco - Der KommissarI kinda thought PULSE would sacrifice this. IS tooooooooo 80's? LOL at the 3 top 10's. Two 80's New Wave freaks and the member who submitted the song. 29. The Flaming Lips - Ego Tripping at the Gates of HellNeither of this did much for me, but I think this one was a tad more melodic. Not terrible but way tooooooo mellow for me. Didn't they use to sound more like Weezer? 28. Yo La Tengo - Let's Save Tony Orlando's HouseStill way on the mellow side, but this #40 is about where I started enjoying songs for certain aspects. This one for instance was very pleasant in the female vocals. What the hell is up with that band name? It translates to "I Have Her" 27. Shakespeares - Burning My FingersFreakbeat. Never knew there were this many rock genres. Sounded like 60's Psychedelic rock to me. Some thing like The Animals or The Zombies. 26. Answers - It's Just a FearMore Freakbeat. Anyone have a list of more songs that fall into this genre. This sound kinda rulze. 25. The Sheila Divine - HumThis was a cool first time listen. I enjoyed his more pleasant vocals more than his screamy ones, but in the end this had some Kings Of Leon vibe, so the duel vocals can stick around. 24. My Bloody Valentine - To Here Knows When The correct one is out first. I spread their songs out, cuz all three had different vibes. This one was weird. Sounded like one of those hidden tracks or something. Also it sounds like a demo, cuz her vocals are barely there. It's probably done on purpose, but I just couldn't enjoy them like that. 23. TR/ST - SulkI thought I would have liked this more, but those vocals didn't fit the song. They have that "Indie pop" tone I don't always like. This would have bee so much better with Depeche Mode/New Order type tones. I wonder if Butterflies & Hurricanes had the same issue with the song? 22. Kitten - G#I like this band, but I'm way more into their uptempo songs. I'm even charting Kitten this moment.I don't think shoegaze works for Kitten. 21. Beach House - WildI enjoyed this one a lot more. The intro with the cymbals gave it's a boost, but I also liked her vocals. The melody would be the bonus I needed. part two:20. M83 - Waitnever heard this one before , and it didn't sound like anything I know from M83. It's decent and sorta dreamy, but I don't really go for this style too much. 19. Narrow Head - Nodding OffNot bad at all. Kinda had some Smashing Pumpkins vibes which would be the reason I boost it a little into the top 40. 18. Drop Nineteens - DelawareThis one wasn't too bad either. I guess without knowing I ranked the Shoegaze stuff together. I like that it picks up a after a while, but I don't like that it made me wait for it. 17. Lush - Nothing NaturalBoy you guys really love your Shoegaze. I can't complain because this is one of my favorites from that genre. Love the vocals. 16. Cold Cave - Promised LandNow we are getting into the Uptempo stuff. A dark gothic vibe, but still very uptempo. The synths, vocals and twanging guitar works are the magic of the song. 15. Boston - More Than a Feeling First one to fall. Not surprised it was this one. This is one of the best songs ever to exist. also one of those songs where the lyrics are my #1 reason I love it. This is my jam in so many ways. Especially about turning on some music to start my day ,and at the end of the day hide in my music, forget the day. Sometimes I dream of the girl, but it's also the reason I log on so late. This is what I do at the end of my day. preview songs, do rank downs, reviews ,downloads. All dedicated to music. Top 10 might have been wishing for too much, but this still an epic AOR classic. 14. Nothing - A.C.D. (Abcessive Compulsive Disorder)I thought I would hate this by the title alone. I expected some Transy noizy travesty, what I got some very cool sounding straight out 90's ALternative Rock. 13. The Allman Brothers Band - Midnight RiderAllman Brothers are hit or miss for me. It depends on the melody. I found this one to be just fine for Rock list, but that's also because it's from the 70's. very surprised that this is higher than Boston tho. 12. Boy Harsher - LAThis is actually New Darkwave music. One of mye favorite aspects of this song is the percussion and Hi-NRG synth inserts. 11. The Flaming Lips - Are You A Hypnotist??This would be that one song I didn't enjoy in the least. Very strange and the melodies and the sounds didn't have any connection what so ever. and the vocals? Forget about it. They were barely there. Anyway, Isn't this the band who sings "She Don't Use Jelly"? What the hell happened to that cool Weezer vibe?

I can confirm that despite my profile pic being similar to anna's, we did not collude for me to be the highest ranker.

10 Yazoo - Situation
Chosen By: @humanshazam Genre: Synthpop Year: 1982
Points: 544 SD: 11.77669207
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Given that shazam submitted this, I actually expected to like this a little more than I did. It's still really good 80's synthpop. Like with shoegaze, you give me 80's synthpop, and chances are that I'll like it. shazam: honestly i'm shocked this made top 10! this track is just a downright jam. i have a really specific memory of hearing this track while it was storming at the beach, and it really made this track special for me. it's fun, bouncy, and i could listen to the warbly synths behind Vince Clarke's "move out"s forever, man

9 Grimes - Oblivion
Chosen By: willapted33 Genre: Dream Pop Year: 2012
Points: 570 SD: 13.15403252 (5TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: "Oblivion" isn't one of my absolute favorite Grimes songs, but MAN, it's good. It's like a particularly intense acid trip. shazam: this is definitely a classic track from the 2010s indie scene, and i gotta agree that it's damn great. those fat bass synths are just awesome

I didn't know what "Situation" was at first, but I was super confused because I thought a random Snoop Dogg song ended up being queued on my Spotify. Then I learned "Boom" sampled "Situation".

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Well, Tom, you found a way to get this song in the top ten somewhere, at least. Darkwave is a genre I've been meaning to get into more. shazam: i put this top 10 on alt 89, and it's obviously great, but... man was this seed stacked

7 Kent - 747 (We Ran Out of Time)
Chosen By: peacebone Genre: Shoegaze Year: 1998
Points: 663 SD: 9.749725271 (9TH LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: the song title is the length of the song, omggggggzzzzz (for real, though, this is really, REALLY good.) shazam: this right here was my favorite discovery in the whole damn tournament. the tones on this song are absolutely gorgeous, and the bittersweet mood was immediately moving to me on first listen

If you listen really closely during this song, you can hear the word "Hong" being uttered throughout

6 Drab Majesty - Dot in the Sky
Chosen By: Geometrical Genre: Darkwave Year: 2017
Points: 667 SD: 9.538892818 (8TH LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: My favorite discovery. I think, more than "Ellipsis", this is the Drab Majesty song that may have convinced me to seek out more of their songs. shazam: well it looks like Drab Majesty are pulse's new love! and i can't say that's a bad thing, this track rules (even if Ellipsis is better)

5 My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Chosen By: Daryl the Beryl Genre: Shoegaze Year: 1991
Points: 693 SD: 11.04536102
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Not much separates the other two mbv songs here, but I do think that we put the songs in the right order. Still, it's "Only Shallow". Of course it's good. shazam: i guess this makes up for missing top 10 in my personal rankdown! i still remember hearing this for the first time and being blown away years ago, and it's not even my favorite off Loveless!

4 My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep
Chosen By: Daryl the Beryl Genre: Shoegaze Year: 1991
Points: 701 SD: 10.68866779
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: "Hey, remember when Red didn't put this song in his top ten in that one gates RD?" Well, yeah, it's a gates RD. This is fantastic. shazam: on some days, this is my favorite track on Loveless. it often alternates between this, Sometimes, and Soon, but damn this one's incredible to say the least. perfectly encapsulates the feeling of love on a warm spring day

3 The Beatles - I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Chosen By: Doc Indie Party Rock Genre: Classic Rock Year: 1969
Points: 720 SD: 11.12269238
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Seeing this compete for #1 for so long was probably the highlight of the rankdown for me, right up until the end. On almost any other album, this would be, easily, the best song on the album. Even on Abbey Road, it's one of the best songs. God, I love that extended ending so much. There's just few things in music that I enjoy listening to more. shazam: i struggled HARD with picking my #1 here, but in the end, i chose this. it's definitely my choice for the best Beatles song, and it's the last thing they ever recorded while all together in the studio! it's just devastatingly heavy honestly, the outro section is downright menacing. i come back to this track a lot, and it just never fails to impress me. insanely good track, man

#2 The Cure - A Forest
Chosen By: @bobpatience Genre: Post-Punk Year: 1980
Points: 758 SD: 8.797185697 (2ND LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I'll speak more about the #1 battle when we talk about #1, but I struggled greatly with my ranking of the top four. I decided to give "Flirtin' with Disaster" #3, because I knew it would need the boost more than this song. If I had put it at #3, well...at any rate, it's "A Forest"! It's the pinnacle of early Cure. shazam: one of The Cure's best, period. the bassline is everything on this song, and on some days, this is my favorite track by Robert and Co. it's just, indescribably good. into the trees...
{People with a Most Likely Reasonable Excuse for Not Sending} rainie @trilogy alexcuse
#1 Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
Chosen By: @bobpatience Genre: Post-Punk Year: 1985
Points: 759 SD: 6.980585321 (LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This was, easily, the most exciting #1 battle of the entire series. "I Want You" and "A Forest" went blow for blow for most of the rankdown,, though, eventually, it looked like IWY would fade off enough for The Cure to win yet again. Then, a funny thing happened: "The Killing Moon", hanging out below the top two for most of the rankdown, started gaining traction, and it became a real battle to see who would take second. After Kyle's ranking, I assumed the order was set...and then violet happened. That is how "A Forest" went from looking like a sure thing to give The Cure three wins in three tries to, improbably, losing out on #1 by a single point. I love rankdowns so much sometimes, man. shazam: Red already covered the battle for #1 talk, which was incredible to watch. for this to just take #1 at the last list is just crazy. as for the song... yeah it's pretty much perfect. Donnie Darko introduced me to this one, but it is hands down one of the best singles of the 80s. the atmosphere is purely chilling, and i could drown in those instrumental tones. a worthy winner, absolutely.

Yo, First off, I probably owe a 'sorry' to y'all for ranking MBV so low. I am all for 'weird' music, but Shoegaze is usually hardly better than screeching noises to me. P.S.: I promise MBV won't end up as #41 and #43 again! (sorry) Yo, You made me very disappointed. Rock on, Daryl the Beryl
