#6 Slift - Ummon
Chosen By: @humanshazam Points: 569 SD: 10.0792101
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: If "The Key to Life on Earth" was the most pleasant surprise I've had in RMD so far, "Ummon" making the top ten is #2. The fact that this was a #1 contender for a decent chunk of the process is amazing. Given how high I ranked it, it probably won't surprise anyone to learn that this was my favorite discovery. This has one of the heaviest riffs I've heard in a long, long time. shazam: holy shit holy shit holy shit i cannot believe how well Ummon did! i actually swapped this in last minute for my token "heavy" pick, but i still figured this would be top 30 at best. i'm super stoked that so many of you liked this, this is a best of 2020 track for me so far! i love the spacey reverb mixed with the thick stoner rock riffs, this track is just a ball of energy

#5 City and Colour - Strangers
Chosen By: Red Points: 587 SD: 9.096571829 (9th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Okay, so I completely forgot that this had been in a rankdown previously. This wouldn't be particularly odd, as we've featured plenty of songs that have been in rankdowns before in RMD/RoTo, but the thing is that not only did I participate in this rankdown, this won said rankdown, specifically a lyhom personal. Whoops. If I had remembered that, I would have switched this out with another song...but there's also a chance that I wouldn't have made the final in this seed if I had done that, sooooo... shazam: i'm admittedly not that into City and Colour, but there's no denying the production here is spot on, and Dallas brought his a-game on this track. despite my ranking, this is definitely deserving of a finals placement

I think this is my favourite song I've heard from him now, wished this was higher (especially since we're looking at the most predictable top three we could have come up with from this list) but top five is cool too

#4 Tennis - Runner
Chosen By: Daryl the Beryl Points: 587 SD: 11.72380566 (10th HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw that this wasn't top ten when I entered my ranking into the sheet. It did not even remotely occur to me that this possibility could occur. This is just where this song belongs. (I still would have ranked "Need Your Love" ahead of it, though.) shazam: couldn't even put my own pick at #1, huh? :kii: this track is downright adorable, the psychedelic guitar tones combined with the cutesy vocals just makes this something i'd easily fall for--and i did. i'm sure maine will be happy to see this placement after MM at least lol

#3 The Strokes - Bad Decisions
Chosen By: MoD Points: 589 SD: 8.749149619 (7th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This was my pick to win, and it never really got close. The lesson, as always, is "Red cannot read the room". This is about a good of a comeback single as could have been expected from The Strokes in 2020. shazam: this new Strokes album has been very solid from the tracks i've heard, and this is no exception. i do prefer Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus a little, but this is still a great return to form from Julian and co.

I really didn't think feeling "Future Love" was not up to Ride's usual standards would be so controversial. But here we are...

#2 Ride - Future Love
Chosen By: Geometrical Points: 594 SD: 7.464200273 (LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: In a non-"Ummon" universe, this is my favorite discovery, though it's not a surprise in the slightest. I've found modern Ride to be pretty damn good, and there's a part of me that thinks that this could wind up being at least on the same level as "Pulsar". I'm really glad that Ride continues to be operating on a high level. shazam: Ride is an all time fav band for me, and they're still killing it almost 30 years after Nowhere's release. oh yeah, THIS was my highest first listen
#1 Perfume Genius - On the Floor
Chosen By: Daryl the Beryl Points: 688 SD: 8.04303899 (2nd LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Even though I love this song, even though it was an easy pick for my top ten, and even though I have no issues with it rolling through this seed...I still kind of wish it was "Describe" here instead. shazam: well this was definitely expected, but not a bad result at all! i've been a big fan of Perfume Genius' new album, and while this might actually be my least fav of the big singles, it's still a super cool psychedelic-disco fusion that Mike delivers excellently

I would've probably ranked "Future Love" in a higher seed if I had strictly seeded songs according to how much I liked them, but I really wanted to put this in a seed where this would contrast with the darker theme of "Maiden China". This is a song I've been revisiting a lot in the past few months just because of how fuzzy and happy it makes me feel.

"Kawasaki Backflip" and "The Wait" - both decent songs just got lost in the mix.
"Falling Downstairs" - a great discovery. I would place it higher now.
"Mary" is great, I love Teenage Wrist and I'm glad it made top ten after "Stoned Alone" missed out.
"Ummon" kicks ass and I would've pushed that in my top ten if I had made my list now.
"Strangers" and "Runner" are both really good. Runner is finally clicking with me and I gave it a download after this RD.
"Bad Decisions" I knew I would be an outlier with this one but I didn't expect it to get such a free pass. I probably would've put this as my #40 now. Nothing about this song works for me and John Strokes has never sounded worse. Easily the worst Strokes song I've ever heard and there's better songs on the album such as Brooklyn Bridge and At the Door
"Future Love" and "On the Floor" is a fantastic top two. Glad to see my #1 pull through, truly a phenomenal song from the album of the year *(nvm RTJ4 dropped)
Looking 4word to the next one.

I didn't submit any Chromatics either but I greatly appreciate their inclusions.
Sending in my list for Seed 3 now. Another great list with some fantastic discoveries and soul crushing bottom ten inclusions. Once again my #1 is not my submission. After listening to this playlist and after seeing the last seed's top ten I am not confident my picks will make much of a splash this time.
Favorite song discoveries: Ohio, Two-Way Mirror, Daisy Chain Favorite artist discoveries: Loathe, Muted Color, Human Impact

#10. Dogleg - Kawasaki BackflipI knew this would be a PULSE hard -on top 10 when I first heard it. I liked it fair enough. His vocals were a bit rough , but they did fit the song style. #9. The Slow Readers Club - The Wait This is one of those songs that got me to forget about the RD and just listen to the rest of the album. One of those songs that could fit well in any era of music. From 80's to 2010's. Another good track is "All I hear" they even have a MV for this one. "No Surprise" is another good one. Love the bassline in that one, and his vocals have a little Interpol in them. easy top 10 for me. #8. The New Pornographers - Falling Down the Stairs of Your SmileNot as great as "High Ticket Attractions" but I ended up liking this one a lot more than when it was charting. The intro could have been more gripping ,but it had a cool bassline. I always forget the reason I like this band is the unique way they combine male and female vocals. Still wondering why Alt give this band the shaft? #7. Teenage Wrist - MaryWhen it comes to this type of 90's style it boils down to the vocals for me. These are good and the rock vibe delivers. Chorus was the strongest part. My 11- 20 songs were the hardest to rank. #6. Slift - UmmonI'm surprised Red didn't submit this one, but I'm glad someone did. This was my favorite discovery on the series by a long shot, and easily one of the best songs I've encountered on one of these rds. If it hadn't been for my love affair with that Bleached melodic wonder this would have been my number one. I certainly liked it more than my second submission. It's heavy and loud with some fierce 70's metal vibes ,but also a slight hint of Alt prog metal. At times it sounded like a long lost Black Sabbath track. Great vocals and the ones that kinda sound female are actually the bassist. You'll notice that if you view the live version which sounds just as fierce. Anyway, The keyword here is Metal and you have long lasting love affair with heavy Metal guitars then this was your star jam. Also if you feel the need to kick back and blaze up the entire album is up on Youtube. #5. City and Colour - StrangersSo this was Red 's pick. This one is good. I like that his vocals are very melodic. That was my favorite aspect of the song. easy top 20 for me. #4. Tennis - RunnerAnother song where the cutesy vocals clearly become the reason I gave it more playback action. I thought they were k-pop vocals til I went to view the Music video. The music is alright. I probably would have flipped if this had been these vocals and a retrowave style music. #3. The Strokes - Bad DecisionsThis will clearly also be in the top 10 come 2020's PULSE ranking of the ALternative chart year. Has a wonderful Strokes part 5 song vibe. Which works perfectly for me. If it broke don't fix it and their sound is clearly shiny as ever. Don't know if it will eventually go top 10 on the Alt chart, but it's nearing top 10 on my personal chart. #2. Ride - Future LoveThis song was super cool. I forget if Ride is usually this melodic, but this jam had a ll my musical buttons on high. #1. Perfume Genius - On the FloorHow about that The song you submit is also the #1 song on this RD and your new #1 song of the week. That actually worked out pretty nice for Daryl the Beryl . The music in this song is alright. That's actually my favorite aspect of the song. Quite melodic and nrg driven, but I'm kinda really over all the male indiepop vocals. The Alt chart did a serious overkill on them and unless it's female vocals I just don't flip for them. I'm wondering how I would feel about another Genius band song if there was one in the future? Keith Jeffery kinda has those type vocals too.

Just sent for Seed 3. In all honesty, this list was incredible and miles ahead of Seed 4 - and that's not a knock on Seed 4 since it was pretty solid. I can't believe some of the songs I had to put in my bottom 10 this time around. One of my own songs nearly didn't even make my top 10.

Okay, it's been a little while since I've posted in here, but I have an announcement to make. I haven't really been seeing my family all that much since the COVID pandemic began, and I really, desperately want to spend some extended time with them. We're already in advanced planning mode, and we have a set date for when everyone will get together. The problem is that the date is one day after the current deadline. I thought about keeping the deadline as is, but then shazam would have to reveal three days in a row, and I really don't want to put that kind of pressure on him. I also don't know about the possibility of an extension, because I don't know exactly how long I'm going to be spending time with my family. I do know that it's going to be at least a week, maybe more.
I have one option left. It's not one that I really want to take, but I think it's for the best. I am going to move the deadline back, specifically to when the deadline was originally supposed to be, June 20th. I did not come to this decision lightly, but it allows for both me and shazam to reveal twice, as we always have, and it doesn't move the deadline TOO far back, "only" one day.
With that in mind...
ONE WEEK UNTIL THE DEADLINE.

Just submitted. My Top 15 was a 4/5 rating or better. I don't even know how often that happens in most year-end rankdowns. This was a very impressive overall list of stuff. A good number of new discoveries for me.
