#25 Sky Ferreira - Downhill Lullaby
Chosen By: @humanshazam Points: 392 SD: 13.28790507 (HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: In the Spotify playlist, "Bismarck" is followed by...this. What a wild ride, the Spotify playlist takes people on. I love "I Blame Myself" and "Everything is Embarassing", but this song is really, really good, too. It's much, much darker-sounding than either of those songs, but that's part of what makes "Downhill Lullaby" special in comparison. It crushes souls and turns them into mush. shazam: i am big sad | ok but seriously it's no secret i've fallen for Sky's material lately. i loved her synthpop sound but when i found out she went darkwave, i knew i was gonna adore this. i love how ominous and haunted the track sounds, it's like creeping through a haunted house set in a Lynchian universe. i'm really bummed to see it miss top half but i'm glad a few of you really liked it!

I feel like I'm never feeling darkwave as much as the rest of you tbh (real talk this was a bit of a disappointment after "I Blame Myself" and I ranked it a bit lower because of that)

#24 Elephant Stone - Hollow World
Chosen By: peacebone Points: 398 SD: 8.735288384 (4th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Okay, definitely feeling like rock Pulse wanted to get in touch with their psychedelic sides in this seed. I am probably not going to be the only person that gets slight Beatles vibes from this. shazam: red pretty much covered it, i reeeally wanted to put this higher, the psychedelic songs in this seed were so strong, i'll probably be coming back to this one a couple more times

#23 Grimes - Delete Forever
Chosen By: willapted33 Points: 401 SD: 11.76289886 (9th HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Interesting move from Grimey McGrimerson, this. I think that the production brings this song down a bit. It feels overly processed. I'd argue that the lyrics carry the song. Did you know this is about the opioid epidemic? And that it was written in the wake of the death of Lil' Peep? shazam: this is... not what i expected from Grimes, at all. but i gotta say i was a fan! i think she works the folk/alt-country sound pretty nicely here

I'm a sucker for alt-country stuff in this vein and I've always been a fan of Grimes despite her questionable decisions at times, so I wasn't surprised when I wound up really liking this lol

#22 Pottery - Take Your Time
Chosen By: Red Points: 401 SD: 10.40483187
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: It's hard for me to put into words what I adore about this song, but I do know that I fell in love with this song the first time that I heard it, and it only grew on me even more after future listens. Sometimes, I just need a super fun, bouncy song where I don't need to think too much about what I'm listening to, and "Take Your Time" fills that void very, very nicely. shazam: both Pottery songs here were first listens, but i gotta say both were phenomenal! the Gang of Four influence is real on this track especially, i'm definitely going to be coming back to this group quite a bit. i am really loving this revival of post-punk lately haha

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This reminds me of something, and I can't put my finger on it. It's like a more aggressive Failure, maybe? I think I'm into it? I think? shazam: gates already showed me this one a couple months ago, and i instantly fell in love. noise rock isn't for everyone, but this reminded me a lot of Daughters, managing to stay catchy while still abrasive as fuck. honestly, i'm just glad it managed to do this well

#40. Jimmy Eat World - 555First time I heard this I hated it. I said WTF is this modern crap, but after a few listens....(and you need to give this one atl east 4 tries before it sinks in).. I found that smooth melody creeping out. I say creeping out, because the whole MV is sort of creepy. In the end JEW doing a Boy Band wonder wasn't so terrible. #39. Starset - ManifestI just can't swallow this kind of Atmospheric Rock wonders. FYI I found the one song by this band that I charted titled "CARNIVORE". I guess I charted it, because it kinda sounds like Hinder post Austin Winkler, with a FFDP like chorus. That was at least worthy of a couple months on my chart. #38. Sabaton - BismarckI knew this RD was gonna blow off Sabaton. I loved it! If its Swedish Power Metal, I'm there. This is way more interesting than all the crap on ACtive right now. Another band I charted Follow The Cypher covered a few of their songs. This one goes hard ,but is very melodic at the same time. #37. Of Monsters and Men - WarsSad to see one of the more popular and better Alt songs of 2019-2020. I'm pretty sure 21 Pilots should be very concerned right about now. #36. twenty one pilots - Level of Concern...and there it is. I didn't even have to scroll. I just f u c k ing knew it. This is the one song that in one week's time I shot from #15 into my top 10. It's also in my weekly chart and could very well become my favorite song from them? "will you be my little Quaranteen" at first seemed silly, but then I realized its about being locked up with your chick. Sex and beer 24/7. I mean what else do you need? .... and It just bops in all the right places. #35. Meet Me @ the Altar - TyrannyAnother stand out for me. Love these female fronted Poppunk bands. Loud ,majestic vocals. Stand Atlantic. Paramore. God I wish Demi Lovato had decided to take this rout instead. She has the pipes for this. #34. Hot Chip - PositiveI sense we are cutting our ties with everything that's melodic here and that's kinda sad. This was the most NEW ORDER meets Erasure sounding song here. It wasn't as strong as I hoped in the chorus, but i really settled nicely with those vocal tones. #33. True Body - Spirit CitySurprised this one is out this early. I absolutely love the vocals on this one. Reminds me of those English New Wave bands. I'm not sure where this band is actually from, but they really hit the nostalgic button on me with this song. This is one of those songs that will grow on me even more the longer I keep it on my chart. #32. Pixies - Catfish KateWell this is the highest you might even get to see me rank a Pixies song. So enjoy it. Kinda had some Social Distortion melody going on, and I love the female vocals. Tho they kinda sounded different, but who cares I liked this song. #31. King Krule - Alone, Omen 3Couldn't get into this one at all. I wanted to hear "Popular" by Nada Surf in that guitar, but just couldn't. Anyway I think at one point this slowed down my heartbeat. That's not good. #30. WOOZE - I'll Have What She's HavingOh Snap!. Red hit that nail hard. This is why this song outranks my own submissions. The music video, the vocals the colors. This is surely an ode to Devo. It should have been mine dammit! Expect this one to cruise on over to my weekly charts in the near future. #29. Local H - Turn The BowThis one is what it is. The only song that stayed at my #29 slot all through the RD. Even after 5 previews it just hung to that slot. It's alright for hard rock. It just never rose out of biing a decent hard rock song. #28. Sunbeam Sound Machine - Talking DistanceThis one was pretty decent. has a nice nostalgic vibe about it. It made my top 20, but the lack of NRG in his vocals kept it from rising. He sounds as bored as he looks in the Music Video. Also the constant banging on the cymbal kinda got to me. #27. Mount Eerie & Julie Doiron - Love Without Possession Here is a thought. Sitting through this one for five previews. In the end it actually fell a slot. I just don't dig on songs that contain the word "mount" be it the title or the name of the band. #26. Clone Culture - Feed Me TonightTrue, but Perfectly solid Darkwave is all you really need. this felt like The Cure gave a song to Davey Havok to sing. I chose this one cuz it drives the melody, but if you want a slightly faster rev listen to "I Wonder if You Lied sometimes" . For those who dig a slower vibe there is "You Are The One". "Demand For It" is dark, lean and haunting. I'm surprised at Butterflies & Hurricanes 's #22. I would think he would enjoy the rest of the album as well? #25. Sky Ferreira - Downhill LullabySounded like an even slower Lana Del Rey. I say this Classical Mood Lite wave? style either takes you into other musical dimensions or it doesn't. #24. Elephant Stone - Hollow WorldThis almost felt like something off the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" era. Not a bad song at all, and I would probably like it among more of the same Psychedelic vibe, but just couldn't over come the rest of the competition on the list, #23. Grimes - Delete ForeverMusically this one is alright. Her vocals rally shot this one into my top 20. A bit more poppy than I thought PULSE would go for? #22. Pottery - T ake Your Time I liked this song a lot more than the other one. I think I admired this one for it's quirky 80's vibes and cowbell. It was fun and how cool was the basssline? #21. Human Impact - NovemberThis didn't really work for me. It's melodically challenged and the vocals don't go too smooth through my ears. It has that Alternative Metal vibe that I'm not a huge fan of.

#20 Pottery - Texas Drums, Pt. I & II
Chosen By: @bobpatience Points: 415 SD: 8.831015916 (6th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: As expected, rock Pulse got into "Texas Drums" a little more, and I can definitely understand why. This sounds like a big love letter to David Byrne. Personally, though, I preferred the song that sounds more like an out there attempt at Parquet Courts. shazam: i liked this Pottery track just a tad more, mainly due to the outro i think. either way, this is definitely a great new band for me to dig into!

#19 Miynt - Peaches
Chosen By: Beno Points: 415 SD: 9.238791217 (9th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This struck me immediately as a female Tame Impala. Like Tame Impala, especially Currents-era Tame Impala, this is hypnotic in quite a few good ways. shazam: y'all went all out with the psychedelia this seed, huh? i was a big fan of this for sure

It's really cool to see this make the top 20, I thought when Talking Distance left this wouldn't have much time left either. Glad some of you really liked it though, I love the vibe this song gives off throughout.
