Even if OTR falls off, isn’t it likely that it will re-enter in Top 25 with all the year-end countdowns? I assume there’s no Billboard rule preventing that. I expect a solid boost on streaming, radio and even sales for the tracking week that started today.

^Regarding OTR's radio airplay, it isn't even listed in kworb's daily updates. I don't think it will have much of a rebound there, if any. I'll keep an eye for it, though.

It's not looking good for OTR so far. I have it going recurrent as of now. YouTube is the only thing that can save it

Billboard please fix this, all of the top 10 is just Christmas songs.. Why does it need fixing? I’m glad that they’ve done away with those antiquated recurrent rules.

Oh...
So Xmas songs completely occupying the majority of the top ten ten is “wonderful”, but when Drake occupied the majority of the top ten during a casual charting week it was a constant B*TCHFEST.
Interesting. 🤔 🤔 🤔
(And no, I’m not solely referring to Pulse).

At least the Christmas Songs were by different artists, who all got a chance to make top 10.

At least the Christmas Songs were by different artists, who all got a chance to make top 10. And they “feel” more “legitimate” because they rise over the course of several weeks. They’re equally legitimate, but, for me anyway, the instinct to bitch about a Drake takeover comes from the way it just flashes in the pan

However, I see this weeks predictions on Twitter and the vast majority of the comments are basically praising this and say things along the line of: “Streaming is finally getting it right... Real classics are taking over” AND/OR “I’m glad real classics are slaying and not these random Hip-Hop album bomb songs that disappear next week aka. Drake” etc. 💀 Like...

Yes. Spotify isn't the only streaming outlet, korbel. We will see if it re-enters on this chart.

If you compare the current chart week (12/28/19) to its comparable chart week last year (12/29/18), there are actually slightly less Christmas songs charting right now - 14 vs. 16. There is one 'new' entry, but three of the songs from this time last year aren't charting yet. Of those that have appeared so far, six of them are charting lower than they were at the same time last year. Furthermore, the 1/5/19 chart had 21 Christmas songs on it, and tanooki's prediction for 1/4/20 only has 19. Frank Sinatra's Jingle Bells, Elvis' Blue Christmas, John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over), and Perry Como's (There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays are apparently not going to make it this time and only two other entries are showing up to fill the gap. I'd keep an eye out for those four potentially showing up in the end, but overall it doesn't seem like Christmas music is really "taking over" the way people claim. There's a small number of staples (barely a third of the top 50 chart space) that will rechart for a few weeks every year and then five to six others that will join them in the last week. We haven't yet reached the point where the holidays take up more than half of the top 50, and even if we did they aren't so strong that they would outpeak a bona fide smash (see 2018, TUN/Without You). Putting aside chart peaks, in terms of genuine 'classic' status there are only two Christmas songs making consistent, noticeable gains. Last Christmas is (hopefully) moving up into the top 10 and Underneath The Tree is the sole 21st century entry making a repeat appearance, which IMO is very impressive considering how long it usually takes for a holiday tune to become a 'classic.' Jonas Brothers showing up with Like It's Christmas is also quite notable, but theirs is a new release, so let's see if they're able to duplicate that success in subsequent years. The Christmas Song and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer OTOH are losing quite a bit of ground. I'm not too surprised about Rudolph, but Nat is rather shocking. I would have expected his to be the next song to enter the top 10 - he peaked at #11 last year - but he's about to entirely miss the top 20 this time. Ariana and Biebs need to start pushing Santa Tell Me/Mistletoe to the AC format and Amazon. They have the potential to become their generation's seasonal classics, but sleigh-ing it on Spotify alone is not going to do the job.

Yeah, I wouldn't say "manufactured." Granted, a good amount of holiday streaming may come as a result of auto-generated streams, whether from playlists or Alexa command- meaning, the listener may not necessarily choose specific songs. But, it's not much different than radio. A listener may leave one station on and listen to all that the station plays.

It makes no sense to me for people to complain about a top 10 where most of the songs points come from people actually selecting and streaming a song.... but love when these Christmas songs are clogging up the charts from playlist shuffle and Alexa streams where they have the song running in the background and mindlessly.

I personally don't have any problem with album bombs, christmas, etc. If it's what people are listening to then it's fine with me.

We seem to be forgetting streaming playlists and Pandora exist as well, creating these "manufactured" streams for normal songs too.
It's kind of a massive deal in the industry right now: playlist placement.

^So we're looking at 23 songs instead of 19 (24 if you count John Legend charting just beneath the top 50 for the first time). And The Christmas Song won't take nearly as big a hit as I thought. Still a bit disappointing that it's underpeaking by a few spots, though.
- Jingle Bells and Blue Christmas are indeed going to be in this year. But Happy Xmas is out - I guess Legend's cover taking some listens away is the reason the original might miss - as is Home For The Holidays. - Baby, it's cold outside of that top 50! lol. I hate that song and I'm glad it's going to miss the chart. Such an overrated controversy. - Four 'new' top 50 entries this year: JoBros' Like It's Christmas, Andy Williams' Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season, Katy's Cozy Little Christmas, and (what I presume is Nat King Cole's version of) Deck The Halls. - Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season is the one song on here that I think would give credence to 'manufactured' Amazon streams; I swear I have no idea where this came from, let alone why it's charting that high, and can only assume someone added it to one or more of Amazon's more popular lists. Lowkey Cozy Little Christmas might be indicative of that too because it didn't do a lot of damage on Spotify, but the fact that it is showing up at all may bode well for it in the long run. - I am admittedly sad to see OTR go and there's a part of me still crossing fingers that it's able to muster a few more points to hang on. But needless to say, it had a great run regardless.

I think people just have a problem with it because songs might go recurrent. which sucks because you can’t just exclude songs on the chart if they’re below #50 or below #25 because they’re “old” obviously they’re still relevant and popular enough to be on the chart for that long still but hey i mean we could have it worse🤷🏽♀️like how the uk has that ACR rule
