Definitely my favorite Catfish song at least out of what we've ranked so far, deservedly their highest performer.

Their last era sounded exactly like their first era but worse. This era sounds exactly like their first era but better. These guys pretty much stay in the same zone, but hey, sometimes it works.

Oooh what a strong Top 10. Rooting for Of Monsters and Men, Young The Giant, Vampire Weekend, The 1975, Silversun Pickups, or Lana to win!

Oof fell out of the top 10 at the last list :'( "Longshot" just has such an infectious chorus - the verses are a bit lacking imo but I still love the song regardless. I had pegged this as something that might fall in the 20s or higher teens (16-19) so this outperformed by expectations a bit, so that's good at least.

My #3-6 got wiped but somehow both ends of my top 10 are still untouched - I would be happy with most of the remaining songs winning; well not my #39.

#1 #4 #8 #10 (#12 #17) #22 #37 #43 (...) #61
I have four top 10s, which is both more than I expected and infinitely more than I had on last year's rankdown.
I'm really rooting for my #1 to take it all given it's my favourite song of the 2010s, but I'd be glad with any of my remaining top 20s winning too.

An interesting top 10 for sure. My remaining ranks:
3, 8 - Would love to see one of these win.
10, 12 - Would be happy to see these win too, just not as much as the first two.
24, 28 - Like these songs a lot, but I'm not exactly rooting for them at this point.
37, 42 - Pretty good, but I guess I didn't find it that amazing or exciting.
58, 62 - Not bad. I can see myself warming up to them in the future, but for now, they're very clearly below the other ones to me.

Just like last year, we're posting the top ten preview right after the 25-11 set ends! As always, if I have made a mistake or left something out, I'm sure everyone won't hesitate to let me know.
- Just two artists are making their first top ten appearance: Lana Del Rey and Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend have made more appearances, but Lana had come closest to making the top ten previously, cracking the top 20 in the fairly recently completed AAA 2014. - Two 2018 top ten artists are making their second consecutive Alt top tens. The first is Meg Myers, who finished top five with "Numb". Meg will be looking to do even better here. - Speaking of artists that finished in the top five last year, The Interrupters are back, now making their second top ten appearance in as many tries. Can they get into the top three this time, something "She's Kerosene" wasn't able to accomplish? - Also making their second top ten appearance tomorrow is The 1975, who came painfully close to winning the 2017 Alt rankdown with "Somebody Else". "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)" will have a tough task ahead of it to top that performance. Do they have it in them? - Young The Giant are making their third top ten appearance, and it's the first top ten appearance for a song that isn't "Cough Syrup". It would not be too difficult for Young the Giant to top their previous #8 best, but will they with "Superposition"? - Another artist making it to the top ten for the third time is Of Monsters and Men. They have had a 50/50 record in the top ten so far. Will "Alligator" repeat the success of "Little Talks", or will it disappoint, like "Mountain Sound"? - Death Cab for Cutie are one of this top ten's biggest "veterans", and they've only made the top ten three times previously. Their best performance actually happened not too long ago, when "The Ghosts of Beverly Drive" came very close to taking the AAA 2015 crown. Can "Northern Lights" do one better, or will it stumble and fall before the finish? - Say it with me, everyone: "Gag me. Freaking Cage the Elephant." They're making their fourth top ten, and each of their previous top ten appearances were with "Come a Little Closer", which also stands as their only rankdown winner. Can "Social Cues" repeat the trick? - An old friend is back, as Silversun Pickups round up the top ten entrants with their seventh top ten appearance. They've made the top five four of those previous six tries, including winning Alt 2009 with "Panic Switch". Will Silversun Pickups win another Alt rankdown that I'm (co-)hosting?

I keep looking for Local Native lol I'm not entirely sure Doc Indie Party Rock ever figured out Local Native (or possibly even An Aimless Soul) was James tbh Actually I did. 25. The Head and The Heart - Missed ConnectionI don't remember connecting with anything from this band until now. This wasn't bad at all. Cool bass riff. So you guys like the lalalala's? 24. Badflower - GhostDon't expect this kindness for this band on Active 2019. There is only one song from this band I liked "Promise Me" and it didn't make the YE charts 23. Phantogram - Into Happinessbands should release the music videos with the songs sooner. I don't remember liking this when I first heard the audio, but this time around it sounded really good with the music video. Should have charted this one. 22. Tool - Fear InoculumI even upgraded a Tool song on a 2019 Alt list. You know the year had issues when I upgrade a Tool song. Cool for those zombie slaughtering video games back round music tho. 21. The Black Keyes - GoANother Great song that just flew under my radar. How did I miss this "surf Rock" bop? Oh well, I'll make it up with "Shine A Little Light". 20. twenty one pilots - My BloodThis song has issues. There are parts of it I like and parts I just don't. By now you should all know the parts I didn't care for? 19. Weezer - The End Of The GameMy list is basically based on my own YE chart. I got into this one a bit late, but it easily makes my top 10 on this list of epic fails. 18. half•alive - still feelNice to know there is still some decent Indiebops on Alt chart. This is like the 5th song I "still feel" I should have charted. 17. The 1975 - Love If We Made ItThis is way better than the Blue Nile song. very nice Sophistipop vibe, but I chose "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You) for my 1975 Bop of the year. 16. Joywave - ObsessionThis band have cool jams. I just have never gotten into them so much to chart them. 15. Foals - Exits"On The Luna" was perfect fire for me, but this is a great sounding song as well. The one I chose to run with is "The maine " 14. Bob Moses - B ack DownThe song has 80's moments, but he still uses tooooooooooo many handclap effix. his vocals are also been there done that. If I want these tones I go to Atlas Genius or Saint Motel. That 80's groove is why it crept into my top 50. 13. Cage The Elephant - Ready To let Go Who would have known this trying to bring back the 90's band would eventually become my favorite Psychedelic vibes band. 12. SYML - Clean EyesI can't recall caring for any prior single from this band, but my top 10 rank has everything to do with the style of song. I wish 40 songs on that Alt chart sounded like this on a daily basis. Now watch my actual #1 song fall before the top 10? 11. C atfish and The Bottlemen - LongshotAnother great sounding True Alternative ROCK song I should have charted. Blame it on Active 2019 being so adrenaline pumping fierce this year. In other news my #1 song makes the top 10.

EXTRAS:
Badflower - Promis Me The only song by this band in this entire year I actually loved. very cool Poppunk vibe. This should have scored on Active instead of that "Heroin" bull.
Hallucinations - PVRIS This has it's moments. She sounds great in the chorus, but had a little too much to drink during the verses.
Black Holes (Solid Ground) - The Blue Stones I wish this song started at the 0:15 seconds mark. I would have had more fun with it. It's still pretty great tho.

Some of you give "It's Not Living" so much shit, but you're willing to give a pass to a song that is literally just "The Downtown Lights", but "oh hey, it's politically charged instead".
I don't get it. Considering we now know Living made the top 10 anyway, and thus the outspoken opposition was insignificant in power, this post reads more like a preemptive gloat than genuine frustration Do you like the thrill of preying upon weaker posters, Red. Does it excite you?!?

I've really wanted to get into "Longshot" more but it's always been just kinda there for me. For me, no other Catfish song has been able to reach the same level of greatness of "Kathleen". But good on them though for doing so much better here then they ever have before.
I was worried that "Back Down" would go out much earlier than it did so I'm happy that it was able to make the top 15. After seeing all the support it had though, damn I wish it could have made the top ten.
One song that has really grown on me since doing my ranking is "Obsession". If I redid my ranking today it would likely be just outside of my top ten.
As the for the actual top ten I have no complaints about the songs that made it. I'll be rooting for one of my top 3 to win but every song left is really good.

Let's recap my thoughts on what happened after I went home for the night:
12. Clean Eyes: It's simple, really. Electronics can be a useful tool if utilized properly, but it's like using spices while cooking. Do too much and you risk ruining the dish. Something groups like SYML could use lessons on. But hey, the vocals and synths did help make up for it to a good extent.
11. Longshot: While Doc was dodging a bullet for his number one song, my top ten took one final hit before leaving. Catfish is one of those groups that you can tell that quality is in the brand of music. The guitars and vocals blended well enough to make this work.
So let's see what's left. Gonna separate this by tier.
4.5/5:
6 8 13
Usual suspects are here. Wouldn't be surprised if the winner is found in this tier.
4/5:
17 29 33 35
I think there's a chance that the top song in this tier could sneak through. Although a shade worse than tier one, these are solid songs.
3.5/5
38 39 42
The other surprise I'm referring to lies in this tier.
