This is cohesive in a bad way. It’s extremely monotonous from a sonic standpoint. I’m also struggling to hear any character in his voice; he just sounds hollow. A very going with the motions album. I liked Journals more because, while it wasn’t as focused, it provided a lot more twists and turns.
If you like a consistent mood that rarely wavers, I could see this being your favorite Bieber album.

I'm actually surprised at how boring this album is. The two singles are the most unique and energetic tracks on the album. Everything else just blends together and it feels like one never ending song. I couldn't find anything bad about the music, just that it felt incredibly lackluster and average. These songs could be random filler in any r&b record. Half the songs sound like Chris Brown rejects. It's just almost completely void of any personality. That's especially weird considering "Yummy" is the lead, and whether you like it or not, it's explicitly Bieber. But all the other tracks could be by anyone. Very bizarre and disappointing.
That being said, there is one exception to this. "Take It out on Me" low key knocks.

I am impressed far beyond my initial expectations. The production on this album is top notch and the lyrics are decent for the most part.

Good numbers for Bieber. I was expecting a slightly bigger number of pure sales.

This is hard for me to fairly evaluate because I'm torn. A) I had to remove the fact he is a douche and problematic and B) I truly feel the magic of RnB lies in the songwriting and soul/emotion which he always lacks and lacks here.
However that's me ranking him up againg the GOOD rnb artist but considering most of these girls and boys today also lack songwriting and soul that wasnt fair. Compared to them he places in good company.
It's an acceptable album with atleast 3 to 5 songs that I hopped along to and some that might grow. Only listened once tho.
Bottom line its NOT Purpose

Man, that Zane Lowe interview was ROUGH. My buddy was over and he was like, "WTF. Is he tweaking? And why does he sound like that?"
I dunno. It really was a tough interview and I was thinking he was not ready for a big interview, especially with someone like Zane, who is respectful, but not a celebrity kiss-ass/coddler like Ellen or Fallon or Corden. But...yeah...anyway, the album is still a major vibe. This album is very well-produced and Justin sounds great. Intentions still speak best to his sweet spot as an artist, but this vibe suits him more naturally than his pop hits. He is really talented though and it shows on this album.

LOL if you have seen the docuseries, they are just being goofy. Justin isn't actually screaming at her over a game.

I was perched for their standard vitriol and it was actually worse than I expected, but considering how they trashed the best song on the album...not surprised.
Also, for a while, no critics were bothering to review it. It had 7 reviews as of this morning and all of a sudden, there are 15 LOL. They are mostly all mediocre but there are none negative, which kinda surprises me.

LOL that guy is one of the dorkiest, most annoying YouTuber reviewers I have seen. No actual commentary on the songs and just bad all around.
Meanwhile, the video for ETA dropped and...well...I have seen guys in Tent City under the MoPac Expressway in Austin look better at their worst, but the video is still kinda cute.

His Carpool Karaoke was great. He did I Don't Care, Yummy, Smelly Cat, Love Yourself, Intentions, and One Less Lonely ***I'M RACIST***. He also arm wrestled James after James gave him shit for wanting to fight Tom Cruise LOL.

Ooooh ETA and That's What Love Is have definitely gone up in the rankings, while Take It Out On Me has gone up a bit (his vocals on the chorus sound like Believe-era though and the breakdown should have lasted longer) and Second Emotion has gone down. Honestly, what is Travis doing on this song? A mess. I will say I wish I had more ETA vocals and the "Oh nooo I don't" in Take It Out On Me because he actually sounds grown and sexy and not like a sex-starved teenager like he does on some of the other songs. Meanwhile, one of my servers at the restaurant I frequent told me he is getting laid tomorrow for the first time in 6 months. I told him to play this album LOL. PROMO! I feel like Justin would be proud. The one thing I really dislike about critics talking about this album is how they are claiming his vocals are slathered in Auto-Tune. Umm...where? They may have been flattened a bit or compressed but Auto-Tune? HOW SWAY? The kid can actually sing if you have watched the documentary or seen him randomly riff.
