I wonder if chart watchers back in 2000 were expecting "Smooth" to be dethroned by Christina Aguilera's second single, despite Britney failing to reach the heights of "...BOMT" with her following singles. It wasn't a surprise; Christina released a physical commercial single for "WAGW" so its jump to the top was expected. Britney didn't release commercial singles for the follow-ups to "...BOMT" so they charted solely off of airplay, which wasn't her strongest metric at the time. Yeah, Xtina relaesed physical CDs for all her singles. That's why she got 3 hot 100 no. 1s (Gennie, WAGW, Come On Over) plus 1 top 3, I Turn To You. Britney only released physical CDs for the no.1 Baby One More Time and the no. 14 hit, From The Bottom. It was to increase album sales. Sometimes (no. 21) and You Drive Me Crazy (no. 10) charted with airplay points alone. I think both could hit no. 1 or at least top 3, with physical CDs. Cos Britney did better selling singles than airplay

Novocaine by The Unlikely Candidates has entered the top 200 on radio. I'd say look out for it- it's catchy as hell and could be our indie crossover hit of the year I think it'll either be this or Make You Mine by PUBLIC, which has been in the Top 40 Pop charts for a while

It is weird how (relatively) poor Spears' airplay was considering her huge album sales and hype. Pre-"Toxic" she only had two #1s at Top 40 (BOMT and OIDIA) and five top 10s. On the whole Aguilera had more consistent airplay despite lower sales.

On the whole Aguilera had more consistent airplay despite lower sales. It was sort of like a magnified version of BTS...ravenous fanbase, #1 albums, but relatively poor showing on the Hot 100. The factors are different of course, and BTS has yet to have a "...Baby One More Time" crossover single.

Billboard Top 10 from 60, 55, 50, 45, and 40 years ago: 07 11 Daddy Don't Cry - Elvis Presley The title is actually "Don't Cry Daddy". Probably in my personal top 5-7 of all of Elvis' top 10s.

Another unofficial upload of "Blueberry Fuego" by Lil Mosey is in the Spotify top 200. This song is huge on TikTok; I’m surprised he hasn’t released it officially. It could probably be his biggest hit with promotion and stuff. Apparently somebody else bought the beat before Mosey could use it, so it’s either gonna remain unreleased or drop with a different beat

I hope Yummy peaks at #3. I don't want this to be a #1 for Bieber. Maybe a better 2nd single?

#1 is out of the question (unless there are like 150k units sold) but #2 is likely, or it'll just miss and be #3.

GLY was just annoying since it spent #1 with half of its points coming from radio, Yummy will be #1 from streams and sales not even in the US, with Bieber literally promoting it

This is probably the most exciting week we've had since the week Mariah finally got her #1 for AIWFCIY. I don't think "Yummy" will manage to debut at #1 this week, but it might as well go there if radio keeps going strong like this.

That was literally less than a month ago and we’re only just over two weeks into the new year. Not exactly a lot has happened between then and now. LMAO.

I'd say look out for it- it's catchy as hell and could be our indie crossover hit of the year I think it'll either be this or Make You Mine by PUBLIC, which has been in the Top 40 Pop charts for a while Make You Mine is great, it reminds me of scene kidz bop rock from but in a good way

We’ve been seeing “updates” like these since the early-to-middle 2000’s. It’s nothing new with radio, so I’m not quite sure why everyone is so “shocked”. Moreover... Radio listener impressions have decreased drastically since 2017 and continue too. It’s not exactly surprising, again, that such songs are SOARING among all the formats especially when it’s a lead single by a major act. I’m almost certain that Rihanna (the biggest airplay artist of the last decade) and Bruno Mars will see similar numbers with their leads.

I feel like "Yummy" is getting crazy radio updates for sure, but I do think it's gonna have a super fast radio downfall in a few weeks kinda like "Look What You Made Me Do"

These huge increases are representative of what occurs during its first week, because it didn't have any radio airplay from 7 days ago then because it wasn't out. According to Kworb, Yummy got 5.78 AI last Monday, and this Monday it increased by 9.78. That's a total of 15.56 AI. You really think it's normal for songs to manage 15.56 AI a day this early in the chart run (first day excluded of course)? Yeah, no.
