Only one team can win this leg, and this time it's:
Overall Score: 65.9 Roadblock Rank: #1 | Detour Rank: #1 Bonus from Leg 2: 0.2 (9th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Walt)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: Damn, Elvis got the moves! I mean I’m not watching the music video but this sound is perfect for a little shimmy and jam! Like seriously, I’m really getting into this! I love a good hand clap song and this perfectly fulfils that niche haha. Although I’ll be frank, I have no idea what a Hound Dog is lol. (9.7/10)
Charmander: Oh I love Elvis, I was really looking forward to hearing this track again, and it still holds up even today. Love the production and the lyrics, I can listen to this all day. Imo it's pretty near perfect, which is why you get a 10. Great pick. (10/10)
Overall: 29.7 Yield:
As the winning team of the first challenge, BB and Walt got to decide who they'd use the yield on. They chose The Optimistic Cockroaches, meaning Will & Samo will receive a -3 penalty on their overall score.
Detour Results:
(Athens)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (8.5/10)
Mylo: I’m technically unfamiliar to this song but it does sound vaguely reminiscent of songs I’ve heard before. Taylor Swift must’ve been inspired by this song to make the genius that is “ME!” haha. What really pushes this song higher is the instrumental that keeps the song running at a great pace. With the benefit of hindsight, this perfectly fits the theme as well. Great pick! (4.2 for quality, 5 for theme, 9.2 overall.)
Chrona: This is one of the most forward thinking and creative songs of the 80s and I respect the talent and the art that went into this song. But, while I do really enjoy the song, it's not really anything I see myself returning to, which doesn't allow for me to give the song the fullest possible credit. (5.5/7 for quality, 3/3 for theme) (8.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 4.8/5 | Theme: 5/5) It took less than half a minute for me to know that this is the winner of the Detour. This song is an experience. It feels very current yet absolutely timeless. The strong yet delicate drums. The glimmering synths. The actual melodies! This song is God tier.
Overall: 36
Second last to first, a huge jump worthy of commendation! You guys went from first, to ninth, and bounced back to that sweet #1 spot. You guys are clearly big threats, enjoy the 1.9 bonus next round!

Jeff fans of the world rejoice as their team reaches their highest position yet at:
Overall Score: 60.1 Roadblock Rank: #6 | Detour Rank: #3 Bonus from Leg 2: 0.4 (8th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Gates)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (8/10)
Mylo: I adore these vocals, wow! They sound so polished and full of bright harmony, love them. The Supremes live up to their name, solid song! (9/10)
Charmander: I've actually listened to only the cover (I think by Kim Wilde) prior to this, so very nice to hear the original. I love the pop cover, but this original is nice too, great vocals and production. (8/10)
Overall: 25
Detour Results:
(Athens)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (7 for quality, 3 for theme, 10/10)
Mylo: Everyone give a shout out to Radio, violently murdered by video. It’s been a long while since I’ve heard this song, which is a shame because it is genuinely a very nice song! I’m not an enormous fan of the man’s voice but otherwise this a classic for a reason, and I can understand it being considered forward-thinking. Well done! (4.3 for quality, 4.1 for theme, 8.4 overall.)
Chrona: I find the chorus of this song annoying but the rest of the song is some really enjoyable new wave that did tell the future about popular music. But, I'm not sure how much it played a role in that future and the song is fairly standard new wave so I can't give it a perfect score in the theme. (5/7 for quality, 2.5/3 for theme) (7.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 4/5 | Theme: 4.8/5) What a smash! Someone being able to create a song like this over 40 years ago will always be a shock to me. Well done.
Overall: 34.7
Finally halting that decline, you're back up and in a big way. Good Jeff, and may the Jeff be ever in your favour with 1.4 extra points next leg.

What is that awful bickering noise? Oh don't worry, it's just our third place team:
Overall Score: 58.7 Roadblock Rank: #5 | Detour Rank: #5 Bonus from Leg 2: 1.4 (3rd place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by DistrictTwelve)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick:(10/10)
Mylo:Ehhh I have differing opinions on this song. It obviously does sound good and I don’t dislike it or anything but this style of song just isn’t for me. Nice attempt, and it’s certainly passable, however I’ll pass thanks. (5.5/10)
Charmander:Probably my favorite Jackson 5 song. Just a great upbeat song, and I love young MJ's voice, and the rest of the Jackson 5 are great as well. As a side note, the Victorious Cast ruined this song. (10/10)
Overall: 25.5
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick:(5 for quality, 3 for theme, 8/10)
Mylo: Imagine starting out a song, unironically, with “Sticks and stones break my bones” lol. Fight Song who? However thankfully the rest of the song is good and a total jam. I love the lead singers voice, always have and always will. Good song, however honestly I don’t actually think it’s * that * in your face haha? It’s definitely somewhat there but the verses are actually a little on the tamer side. Nothing crazy though, still a decent pick and good song! (4.2 for quality, 3.8 for theme, 8 overall)
Chrona: I have yet to hear a Foals song aside from In Degrees that isn't a 6/10 for me and this is no exception. I can see how this song is aggressive though because the song is about being under attack and the production does a good job at capturing that feeling and the lyrics do an ok job as well so it does get some points for that. (4.5/7 for quality, 3/3 for theme) (7.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 3.8/5 | Theme: 4.5/5) That’s another great song. I’m very glad to rate such good picks. It all comes down to details. Sonically, this is probably my top pick for Sparta. I’m also a fan of the lyrical content, especially the parallelism between mental chaos and actual war. I’m sure the Spartans would play the hell out of this song had they been introduced to the concept of music streaming lol.
Overall: 31.8
Kings of consistency! Slow but gradual gains are important in a race, and y'all are nailing that so far. Keep those glasses on and ride high with 1.2 points on your side.

This team wanted it, they got it:
4. The SICKOS (@drakeisskinny & Mayman ) Overall Score: 58.6 Roadblock Rank: #4 | Detour Rank: #6 Bonus from Leg 2: 1.6 (2nd place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Mayman)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: I respect this song more than I like it. It’s not bad at all, it’s a solid tune that is pretty groovy but I think the other Aretha song here is better. The middle of the song is maybe a little disjointed too which doesn’t help. The spelling is kinda cool? As we all know, spelling is fun. (7.7/10)
Charmander: The classic from the Queen of Soul. I ranked this in Last Stand as well, and (I think) I'm giving it the same score. Solid song overall, though I think with repeated listens, it's been starting to wear down on me, which is why I rated the other Aretha song a little higher. (8/10)
Overall: 25.7
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (7 for quality, 1.5 for theme, 8.5/10)
Mylo: Okay fine, you got me. Yes I’m predictable and basic, yes I love this song and think it’s excellent lol. That piano line, that swell, her vocals. So so great, US really paid this dust haha. The theme is more questionable though, but upon re-listening I can envision it more than I expected to originally lol. Yes, the verses are low key and the build-up is slower than you’d expect but the chorus does actually hit with a decent amount of force that can be considered aggressive. Those spartians could indeed be yelling about a green light as they murder their foes, so I can get behind this, at least partially! (5 for quality, 2.8 for theme, 7.8 overall)
Chrona: I really love this song. It took me like 10 listens to fully get into it but I'm 100% behind it now. But aside from the beach line on the first verse how the absolute f**k does this follow the theme? (7/7 for song, 0.5/3 for theme) (7.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 5/5 | Theme: 2.5/5) I don’t think anyone expected me to be a guest judge for this round and the fact that a team chose my song of the decade is a pleasant surprise. The lyrics, the production, the hook, the vocals! God. I’m gonna save that for my Decade-End review. “Green Light” is a perfect example of pop excellence. Being objective, though, it’s important for me to say that I find this song to be very emotion driven & a product of heartache and frustration which is something the Spartans can not relate to. The Lorde works in mysterious ways.
Overall: 31.3
A pretty mild slowdown, and overall not a bad performance at all for a team who was .2 points from being eliminated on the first round! Take this point and relax, you guys deserve it.

Rounding out the top 5 is our unlucky yielded team:
Overall Score: 58.5 Roadblock Rank: #2 | Detour Rank: #4 Bonus from Leg 2: 0.8 (6th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Samo)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: This is a good song. I don’t have much to say, it’s a classic for a reason haha. The chemistry is great, the sound of the song is so hopeful and upbeat. Yes, the lyrics could be better but they’re mostly a moot point when the song says enough to cover. Cool tune! (8.5/10)
Charmander: Also judged this in Last Stand as well, and to summarize, probably one of the best duets of all time, it's a classic for a reason. (10/10)
Overall: 28.5
Detour Results:
(Athens)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (4 for quality, 2.5 for theme, 6.5/10)
Mylo: I’m here for this song! Good vocals, interesting lyrics and a quirky production, exactly what I expect from Charli at this point. And of course, this suitably fits the theme as well. This could very well be the style of music come twenty years in the future, it has potential well beyond 2019. (4 for quality, 4.5 for theme, 8.5 overall.)
Chrona: I don't really know if this is exactly creative or forward thinking considering the producer of this song, A. G. Cook watered down a lot of his production significantly for this (even if a lot of the trademark sounds he uses are still there). I knew someone would send Charli for this theme but I was moreso expecting something from Pop 2 or even 2099/Vroom Vroom/Shake It than something like this song. But fortunately, this is probably my favorite song from her and easily one of my favorite songs of all time. I also really love the Clarence Clarity remix, which probably would've gotten a perfect score for both categories. But as it stands, considering that this song is relatively watered down compared to A G. and Charli's other work, I can't really give this a perfect score for the theme. (7/7 for quality, 2/3 for theme) (9/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 4.2/5 | Theme: 4/5) “Gone” is electropop at its best. Who knew that a collaboration between two artists I find rather annoying would be that big of a hit? The production is phenomenal and the lyrical content is strong as well.
Overall: 32.2
You guys would've come 2nd easily had it not been for that yield by the top team. It's a sign that you're seen as threats, which could come back to bite you if you're not careful... Take these 0.8 points but don't rest too easy guys.

This team has done the unthinkable, rack up three 6's and completed the devil's number! Well done?
Overall Score: 58.2 Roadblock Rank: #9 | Detour Rank: #2 Bonus from Leg 2: 0.0 (10th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Drae)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (9/10)
Mylo: Sweet little love song! I’m a sucker for this cute coffee shop vibe~ It’s got that typical bounce in production but it comes with genuinely touching lyrics and an emotional vocal performance. Cool pick! (8/10)
Charmander: Ah 1950s. Nothing wrong with this song, her vocals are nice and for the 50s, the production is nice. But like Unforgettable, I probably won't be going back to this one either. (6.4/10)
Overall: 23.4
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (5 for quality, 3 for theme, 8/10)
Mylo: Someday I just need to suck it up and listen to Lemonade. Every song I’ve heard from it is pretty good, Beyoncé really brought her best! This style of song works so well from her too, the verses are awesome and then the chorus hits with an explosion of pure energy. Love love love this, a 10/10 by far! (5 for quality, 5 for theme, 10 overall.)
Chrona: Beyoncé sounds PISSED here and combined with the instrumental, it is honestly incredible and almost fascinating and creates a memorable experience. However, like with some other songs, I don't really see myself returning to it so I can't give it all the possible points (6/7 for quality, 3/3 for theme) (9/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 3.8/5 | Theme: 4/5) What a song to open the Sparta section of the Detours! “Don’t Hurt Yourself” captures the essence of Lemonade better than most of the songs on the album. And while the song is the epitome of “in your face” (hell, she even yells in our face in the music video), it lacks a little something to be the top pick for Sparta. That being said, it's still a contender.
Overall: 34.8
Last leg took an L but today you bounce back! Yet again fitting comfortably out of the top 6, you're arguably the quietest team so far. Hopefully that works out well for you, enjoy 0.6 points and a short rest.

7th goes to the hard core rock fans:
7. The Rock Lovers (@jadenlefranks & shruggie ) Overall Score: 55.4 Roadblock Rank: #3 | Detour Rank: #9 Bonus from Leg 2: 1.0 (5th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Shruggie)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: Production really sells this one. I love those guitars and little rattles! Ray Charles sounds fine enough too. Love the backing singers again, noticing I’ve got a real soft spot for that technique haha. Fun song! (8.8/10)
Charmander: This is a fun Ray Charles song, really like the background female vocalists especially. But Ray Charles gives off a great energy and vibe, a solid discovery as well. (7.5/10)
Overall: 26.3
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (6 for quality, 1 for theme, 7/10)
Mylo: I’ve never seen Suicide Squad, and don’t have intentions to either, but the soundtrack is surprisingly pretty good lol. This song isn’t my favourite off said soundtrack but it still works way more than it should. Putting X Ambassadors and Logic on the same track? That’s a recipe for disaster lol. And yet, everyone puts in a good effort and Logic himself shines better than literally any other song he’s in. Organs honestly should be used more in music, it’s a really good mood-setter and thoroughly enhances what could’ve been an awkward tune-less cut into a polished and genuinely creepy-sounding song. For the theme, eh? I can see it if I squint, like there’s definitely aggressive aspects to this song. The title line in fact might be the best example of this, it certainly jumps out! But surely there were more fitting picks haha. (4.8 for quality, 2 for theme, 6.8 overall)
Chrona: I can't really see how this connects to the theme without doing a bit of mental gymnastics but I guess I'll give it some credit. The song itself is solid. Probably Alex Da Kid's best production work considering that it isn't absolute garbage and I like all the performers on this song. Even John X Ambassadors is ok! (5.5/7 for quality, 1/3 for theme) (6.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 2.8/5 | Theme: 5/5) Dear God. I thought I had decided I don’t like this song at all. Who cares? *Gambino’s voice*This is Sparta. This song is exactly what I wanted to see here, so it is my top pick for theme. And it's not as bad as I want it to be.
Overall: 28.1
Well done on another respectable finish, take the 0.4 and continue your rock 'n' roll stanning peeps~

YES Mylo13 💜 if you somehow haven't heard Lemonade in full yet, you need to; I'd also give DHY a 10/10 but it's only the 4th-ish best song on the album

Final three is already upon us and teams here have a real chance of leaving. One who will not be leaving this leg is:
Overall Score: 55.2 Roadblock Rank: #7 | Detour Rank: #7 Bonus from Leg 2: 0.6 (7th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Julien)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: For my first Aretha Franklin song, this is pretty good! I adore her voice, and the back-up singers sound great here too. It’s calm but weirdly energetic, pretty solid discovery! I’m not religious but I give this a thumbs up. (8.7/10)
Charmander: This was actually a first time listen for me, and it was pretty good. Aretha's vocals are great, it's catchy, so a solid first listen. Very nice discovery! (8.2/10)
Overall: 24.9
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (5.5 for quality, 2.5 for theme, 8/10)
Mylo: I really should listen to Janet more! Two songs of hers, both really solid work! Everything connects here, those lyrics are great, the drums are powerful and that solo is so much fun. It connects mostly well enough with the theme too, maybe not as obviously as I was expecting but it certainly isn’t calm or chill. Those guitars were enough to give me a 4 for theme, they are definitely in your face in the best way. (4.5 for quality, 4 for theme, 8.5 overall).
Chrona: This is exactly what I was looking for regarding the theme itself. The song itself is too long for my liking though and I don't really like the sound of this song and a lot of other songs that sound similar to this. (4/7 for quality, 3/3 for theme) (7/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 3.2/5 | Theme: 3/5) Straight away, this is one of the best songs I’ve heard from Janet. The sonics fit this category but we’re also going for lyrical content and delivery. And this song doesn’t stray from your typical self empowerment, “I’m-the-s**t” song mentality. Give us some unreasoned aggression, Janet!
Overall: 29.7
Well done guys, although be careful about your placings! Just two more legs and this would be an elimination, y'all stay safe! 0.2 points and best wishes for next leg~

The final two is here, and one lucky team will be definitely safe, while the other must deal with the consequences. The final team to certainly make it to the next leg is:
Overall Score: 52.3 Roadblock Rank: #10 | Detour Rank: #8 Bonus from Leg 2: 1.2 (4th place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Surf)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (8.5/10)
Mylo: Calling your song unforgettable is tempting fate honestly, especially when your song is mostly tame and not particularly special. Unfortunately, this song is a good example of an unnecessary and yes, forgettable, song. It’s totally fine, I don’t have a problem with it or anything but I imagine if the sort of internet culture that existed today was back then, Pulse would find this song just like ‘thinking out loud’ lol. (7.3/10)
Charmander: This was alright. Nat King Cole's voice is really smooth and the production is pretty nice. I probably won't go back to it much, but it's nice (6.5/10)
Overall: 22.3
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (3 for quality, 3 for theme, 6/10)
Mylo: Everyone get down, Beyoncé is coming y’all! Another success for her, this song is clappy and confident. It’s obviously pretty in your face, but not so much so that it’s unbearable. However it does get a touch tiring by the end of it. It could’ve been changed up a bit to stop it from coming a little stale, otherwise no main complaints. (4.2 for quality, 4.7 for theme, 8.9 overall.)
Chrona: This song sure is aggressive but wow does it get annoying fast. (3/7 for quality, 3/3 for theme) (6/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 4.2/5 | 3.7/5) Yas Queen! This one is a classic in my opinion. The production & Beyoncé’s performance are very fitting here. Again, any points lost are for the lyrical content (and the weird requirements I have for the theme). Whoever submitted this did a good job.
Overall: 28.8
Team Taste, you guys came dangerously close to last place, at least in position. You were saved by the last teams detour score but otherwise, it could've been you guys going home! Oh well, enjoy being safe for now and try to do better next leg, I know you can do it!

9 teams have made it to the mat and are safe. 1 team is about to hit the mat, but they're not confirmed to be safe. That unfortunate team is:
10. The Caged Nooks (@doinktheclown & tanooki ) Overall Score: 44.8 Roadblock Rank: #8 | Detour Rank: #10 Bonus from Leg 2: 2.1 (1st place)
Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Tanooki)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (10/10)
Mylo: Running out of things to say lol, this is cool and a fun little tune. ‘Nough said, tis a good track. (8.6/10)
Charmander: Probably the weakest song for me in this set, as I didn't really like the vocals that much. The production being okay and offsetting the vocals a little bit saves this, but there wasn't really anything noteworthy about this sorry. (6/10)
Overall: 24.6
Detour Results:
(Sparta)
Judges' Thoughts:
Nick: (4 for quality, 0.5 for theme, 4.5/10)
Mylo: Y’all weak feuds have got nothing on the iconic slamdown between Monica and Brandy. Two claims, both of the same guy, and yet only one can have him! Unless there’s some polyamory going on here, which would be a pretty sweet twist. I won’t understate this, I love the premise of this song. I wish that we had way more songs like this, songs where two people interact and show differing sides of a conflict. Just for that, I love this tune, although it doesn’t harm it at all that the song sounds great too. However, the elephant in the room is the theme which is uh… not really there. Like, R&B is kinda a genre that goes against ‘in your face’ and this is certainly not an exception. It’s smooth and chill, not aggressive and forceful haha. Great song, weak pick. (4.8 for quality, 0.3 for theme, 5.1 overall.)
Chrona: This really isn't aggressive at all. I moreso just interpret it as two people lusting over the same guy and wanting to get with him. Nothing really aggressive about that both musically and lyrically. As for the song itself, it's your standard R&B song from the 90s with absolutely nothing special about it. (3.5/7 for quality, 0/3 for theme) (3.5/10)
Born In 1989: (Song: 3.5/5 | Theme: 1.5/5) Another earworm for Sparta. I’ll take it. Two girls fighting for a guy? It's not worth the drama for a beautiful liar. All jokes aside, this is one of the better late ‘90s R&B mid-tempos. It’s a bummer it was used here, since it is delivered in such a PG way. They’re so nice that I almost wanna give them the boy I don’t have. Good song, sorry for the rating.
Overall: 18.1
Caged? Nooks? You guys are officially the last team to arrive on the mat. You guys, despite coming first last leg and receiving the highest bonus, came last by the largest score so far. A comparatively subpar roadblock and a universally agreed unfitting detour pick put you here. You guys played hard and were definitely the underdogs, but unfortunately I must do my judge as host and tell you the bad news...
This is a pre-determined non-elimination leg, and you guys must endure this race for at least another leg! Congratulations on surviving when all hope seemed lost, and I wish the best of luck with the next leg. You'll need it, as you face a speed bump as the result of being saved from elimination. However you guys have made a comeback before, you have a chance of coming back stronger than ever next leg!

Leg 5: Rome, Madrid & CasablancaChallenge #1: Roadblock (Rome)What is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms.tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the themeand yes, I'll be sure to send the right roadblock to everyone this time ~Challenge #2: Detour (Madrid)What is a detour? In these challenges, two themes will be available, and teams will choose to send a song for the one they feel more confident in. Be sure to specify which theme you are sending forDetour Theme:Sports Ace or Out of PlaceSports Ace: Madrid is home to one of the best and most famous football players ever, Cristiano Ronaldo. For this detour, you must send an anthemic sports song.OROut of Place: Weirdly enough, Madrid is home to an Egyptian temple, given to Spain as a gift many years ago. For this detour, you must send a collaboration between two artists that seem out of place togetherOptional Challenge: Fast Forward (Casablanca)Surprise! Remember this is an optional bonus challenge. If you finish first, you automatically receive 15 extra points for the leg, all but solidifying a win for you. However, if you do not get first, then you receive a -3 penalty on your final score. Tell us if you want to play and then we will tell you the theme. However, I can confirm that this WILL be an elimination leg, so you may want to give the Fast Forward a shot if you've been struggling lately. tanooki and @doinktheclown remember to keep an eye on your dms for the Speed Bump theme ~

Omg there's a perfect song for Sports Ace that's not even predictable as in "previously used World Cup theme".

Uh, Brandy and Monica literally got into a fight during rehearsal hours before their VMA performance and they had to put them on opposite sides of the stage and lower the lighting so that you couldn't see Brandy's black eye or Monica's busted lip. The Boy Is Mine is the DEFINITION of aggression, for more reasons than one.
I can understand why Caged is salty. I'm irked on his behalf.

I get the aggression line but the prompt was specifically an 'in your face' song and The Boy Is Mine sounds pretty tame in relation to that lol.
